It's been a long time

I didn't forget that I have a DW account (or even a LJ account) but I have been avoiding both - I think I just miss when people connected using one of those? I don't know, I don't have a good excuse!

I am, however, trying to get back to being on here again. I've been writing and reading and working and while I love that I'm part of group chats, etc. with writers in fandoms I'm more interested in (and I joined VM Discord after the shitshow that was season 4), I miss the sense of community that used to be so easy to find on LJ and DW.

Then, when going through old jump drives, I found a BSC snark that I'd done and I wandered over to LJ to check it out and saw that everyone had pretty much migrated to DW and I said to hell with it. Let's get back to DW. Maybe a bit of LJ because I know there's still some fandoms that are more over there than on DW.

Meanwhile, I'll keep on writing - no matter how slow updates might be sometimes! I'll keep on reading.

And I'll be trying to get RL back on track because while it's not off the rails at the moment, it's definitely not where I want it to be and a lot of that has been on me. So. Time to work on that.

I have no clever titles

I feel like I should have clever titles for my entries though. Damn.

I've been doing much better the last couple of weeks. Not working myself too hard and I've been writing. Even though I'm not editing my VM fic when I post it at AO3 (such a challenge not to - I've reread it as I've posted and some of it is like "No, why did I do that? His actions get paired with HIS dialogue, not hers, omg."), people have been great about it. It's nice to see that my writing didn't totally suck back then, lol.

Still, one day I might edit the hell out of a lot of them and see if I can improve on them.

Either way, it's gotten me back to reading VM fic and wanting to write some, which is quite possibly the weirdest thing of all? I don't know.

And I'm still working my way through my list of Captain Canary fic that I want to write. I need to find my list though because I moved it and now I don't remember where I moved it to. Kind of like the notebook that I was using then finished - I had half a story started in there, maybe more, and it continued to the new notebook but now I can't find the old one and I hadn't typed up the fic yet. Ugh. That's annoying. Either way, I finally finished Chelle's birthday fic last month (her birthday was in June, that's so awful, I took forever with it) and I finished the next part of the Multiverse series. Next up, I think I'll write more of the HP fusion/crossover and there's also two more soulmate AUs that are nearly finished. Plus the tragedy of the next Earth in the Multiverse series.

I've got another series planned out but I haven't done much with it. I've got part of the first story of the series written but I've actually stuck to not posting this one. So far, I've plotted out at least 3 stories in this with the option of a 4th. I'm leaning towards yes on there being a 4th part but we'll see.

I have no idea if voting for the Captain Canary Awards are still going because I've been absent from Tumblr except to reblog a few random posts but I was nominated again in a couple different categories and that's awesome enough, especially since I wasn't expecting it.

And last, but certianly not least, I got the day off that I requested for next month which is excellent because otherwise I'd have faked being sick to not go because that's the day my best friend mibelladeseo, her younger brother, and I are driving up to Denver so we can see RENT the next day. I'm so excited to be able to finally see the stage version! I can't wait!

And now I've gotten my icons updated on DW and made sure entries will crosspost, I think I'm set. Though I probably should have done this months ago because now DW is missing a few entries but I can't remember how to fix that so I suppose it'll just stay that way.

I'm getting back in to looking up some writing comms - I've already signed up for hc_bingo and I'm looking at a few others. I miss doing those and a lot of the ones I used to get involved with for weekly prompts don't seem to be active anymore, which is a shame since it looks like at least one of them was active up until just a few weeks ago. Those comms were always great for the muse!

Meh, I'll figure it out. Meanwhile, I'm slowly getting my VM fic posted at AO3 though I'm just posting them as is and including the original post date in a note. It's a bit fun to see how my writing has changed over the years, considering I wrote those back in 2005/2006!

What a pain in the ass to upload though. Still, I'm happy to be back to early seasons Winchesters.

But, seriously, that was a pain in the ass so unless I suddenly find one of LoT or something equally awewsome, this is staying for a good long while!

That being said, it was also a nice distraction because it was my brother's birthday today (well, yesterday technically - it's after midnight here). I stayed home because I've been getting shorter and shorter on patience all week (Monday was the anniversary of my dad's death too) and I just knew I wouldn't be able to handle getting bitched at over the phone or having to repeat myself five hundred times because they're not listening or whatever.

Instead, I got a bit more done in organizing the shelves in my office and then I went to the mass that had been dedicated to my brother. After that, we met up at my grandparents's house to eat the cake my mom had made.

I'm so glad it's Friday. I'm ready for this week to be over.

I dropped off of LJ for awhile, mostly stuck to chatting with people. I didn't really want to deal with life.

My brother passed away at the beginning of April. I'm mostly dealing with it but I still have days where I just start crying. I was on my way home the other day and went passed the Baskins Robbins he took me to the last time I saw him and just completely broke down and started crying. Didn't stop for the next 30 minutes. Hell, I'm starting to cry right now just thinking about it. The littlest things make me think of him and then I just cry and I have no idea when that's going to stop.

A month later, one of my cousins killed himself when his depression became too much. We weren't close, hell, we hadn't spoken in years. We hung out when we happened to be in the same town but it was still horrible to hear. But it still makes me sad because I remember him as a kid and he was always laughing and running around and I hate that that changed for him.

Most recently, I worked myself to the point of sickness. Going in early, staying late. And now I've been sick for over a week and because where I work doesn't give separate bereavement leave, I had to use my sick leave after my brother died. So I've been going in to work because I've got basically no sick leave left.

I didn't feel like writing for pretty clear reasons but I also wanted to try and use writing as a way to deal. Didn't really work, I mostly ended up reading for the next month and nothing else and it's just been in the last month or so that I've started getting really back in to things. I'll have to catch up on posting some of those to LJ soon. And I'm forever grateful to the Legends Crew because they're some of the only people that have been able to really make me smile and haven't made me feel weird about going quiet and then just popping back in whenever I'm ready. Legends fandom in general has been pretty great.

Still, I'm tired of crying. I'm tired of feeling sad. I'm tired of having to put on a happy face on days when I feel anything but. I'm tired of people that I'm supposed to be able to trust using me.

I suppose I'm just waiting for things to start getting better again.

I'm still around, I've just been working a lot of overtime the last couple of months. Heck, it took forever for me to finally finish a fic for once. (But at least I did it!)

ColdAtom fic rec

It's no secret that my OTP for Legends is Captain Canary but I enjoy the hell out of shipping Sara and Leonard with certain others as well. Mainly Mick and Ray. This was actually recommended at the LoT community here on LJ and now I'm passing it along because it is absolutely hilarious.

It's an actors AU and so far there's two parts to the series. The first is done purely through the format of Twitter and shows what happens when Leonard finally gets his own Twitter. (Magic happens, okay? Magic.) The second shows the start of ColdAtom. There's also friendships with Sara and Jax in here, implied Sara/Lisa, and Rip as the frazzled director with Gideon as his even more frazzled assistant. Loved it.

So in my long rant, I said that Katie Cassidy found out a couple days or the day before that Laurel was the one killed off. Turns out she found out while filming the episode before, which is more notice but still not a lot of notice.

Either way, I'd rather be correct in my ranting so I thought I'd post that here.

(Sidenote: FF.net needs to stop screwing up. Trying to post some old fics over there and I swear, it just keeps messing up. I'm about to give up and just say screw that site except for when I read.)

That stupid U2 album that got downloaded to everyone’s iTunes forever ago annoys the crap out of me. I’ve got mine on shuffle and every single time one of those songs comes on, I wonder what the hell the song is because I know I didn’t download it since I don’t recognize it and it doesn’t sound like anything I’d buy. Then I switch windows and it’s like, “Oh. Yeah.”

Then you can’t even delete the stupid thing. I’ve tried obviously but all I get is “Are you sure you want to hide these items from your iTunes purchases?”

No, I don’t want to hide them. I want to delete them. There’s a difference and you should stop trying to tell me what to listen to and let me get rid of the damn album.

Ugh.

I even tried listening to the album, just in case I was imagining how annoying I found it. Nope. I couldn't even make it through a whole song. I tried every single song and world of no. Whenever one of the songs comes on, it takes just a few seconds for me to realize what album has popped up and then I aggressively hit the next button. My music is supposed to be relaxing for me, iTunes. You're not making it so.

I don't even know why I'm so mad about this right now. I think because it's 2:30 in the morning.

So, I finished the first Captain Canary soulmate AU (I swear, this idea spiraled out of control - I started out with a list of 4 then it expanded to 5 and then to 7 and yesterday I got the 9th idea and that was the one I started writing; I've got a list at my desk of ones to write) last night. Mostly. It depends on if I add a third chapter in Sara's POV set at the end of Destiny since the first two cover the pilot from Leonard's POV. I'm debating.

Either way, I'm glad I finished it because I'm determined to write them all and just put them all in a series. It's nice to be able to cross one off the list.

Shoot and I just realized there's two fics I just uploaded straight to AO3 and completely forgot to put on my writing journal, lol. Guess I better get on that!

Guggenheim, you're an idiot. (Also, water's wet.)

I'm rolling my eyes so hard at Marc Guggenheim, I swear. I have no idea how that man is still employed. This is one of those instances where I wish a fic writer would be in charge of the show. There's some damn good ones out there.

I haven't heard anything regarding Legends of Tomorrow (I have a bit more faith in some of the other writers for that show anyway) but for Arrow? OMG, Guggenheim, how do you still have a job? It's like he can't make up his mind about anything!

First, there's the remark of why they went in the direction they did for Diggle in giving him his own codename - Guggenheim says they didn't want to make him another Green Lantern or anything like that, they wanted him to be his own character away from the comics. Well, that's fine. But then he also turns around and goes, "We wanted to make Felicity Oracle but DC said no." Well, no shit they said no. Felicity's got nothing to do with Oracle. She's an original character with the name of some character from the comics that made one appearance so give her the same treatment as Diggle and let her have her own name. Which they ended up doing obviously but the fact that they attempted Oracle made me want to do a literal headdesk. Make up your mind, dude. Either you're trying to get away from the comics or you're trying to use them. But stop going between the two and stop half-assing it while you're at it.

Then there's Laurel. Guggenheim said that they had no idea who was in the grave when they filmed the scene at the start of the season. According to him, they had no idea who was in the grave when they started filming the damn episode where Laurel was killed, which....what? What? How'd you even plan anything after that then? Katie Cassidy found out like the night before or something that it was going to be Laurel getting killed off in that scene. That's absolutely an awful way to handle that. Not just storyline-wise but, holy cow, what a way to treat the actress that's listed as the female lead of the show.

The reason that Laurel ended up being killed off? Guggenheim stated that he wasn't sure where to take her storyline. He felt like there was nowhere for it to go. The other reason was they were getting complaints of how many masked vigilantes were on the show.

Here's where I have an issue with both those reasons:

If there's too many masked vigilantes running around Star City right now then why is every single new character coming on next season (except for one) a masked vigilante? They're literally bringing in like three new ones, at least. And the kicker for me is this one:

The new DA is a man who is also a vigilante.

He is literally a male Laurel. She was offered the DA job and she was going to take it. Yes, she considered not taking it. She also said that she'd give up being the Black Canary to be the DA. But there's a storyline right there - Laurel giving up the Black Canary and then realizing that it made her feel alive, just as she said in her final moments on the show. She goes back to being the Black Canary and has to learn how to juggle that along with being the DA. She has to balance her cases and make sure she's not letting her fighting get in the way of the way she handles cases. She and Oliver, the new mayor, working from inside city hall to improve things while all of Team Arrow tries to improve things on the street as well.

Ta da, Guggenheim, I just did your damn job for you!

And if that doesn't work, how is it that you still have no idea of what to do for a storyline for her? There's literally 75 years of source material for the Black Canary and you couldn't draw off of a single one of those? Give me a break. (Incidentally, this is also why he said he had Kendra leave the team with Carter on LoT. He couldn't think of any storylines for her. Gee, how about something other than a romance? You constantly had her gripe about how just months ago she was a barista so how was she supposed to know what to do? Why not have her stick with the team and start learning? Have her start remembering her past lives. Use her 4,000 years of memories to help keep the timeline intact. Build up her friendship with Sara onscreen some more. Just because Savage is gone, it didn't have to be the end of her storyline.)

If you were going to kill someone off, why not kill Quentin? I mean, yeesh, he was on the show less than Laurel but his death would still impact all of them and carry over to Sara on LoT as well. Why not have Laurel going after Darhk because the man killed her father for betraying him? He was seeing Donna, which impacts her and that impacts Felicity (not to mention, Felicity knew him from him helping the team out). Oliver's known the man since he was a child and they had started to work together. Thea knew him through the same reasons. Diggle knew him from working with him on the team. You kill him off and it hits all of them. Then you still have that big impact you wanted and, bonus, you haven't killed off the Black Canary.

I can't at all fathom how anyone thought killing the Black Canary off of a show about the Green Arrow would be a good idea. They don't even have to be romantically involved - they're still essential to each other's storylines. The show had established that they were friends for most of their lives and they had built that back up and were working together. Show us more of that instead of just mentioning it or whatever. Or show us more of Laurel and Thea - their scenes were always good to see. Let us see Laurel helping Thea find herself, that was Thea's reason for leaving the team anyway, right? She was afraid she was going to lose herself and, to sum up, go dark side. So, have Laurel help her figure out who she is without being a vigilante, without having a guy in her life (as much as I hate to say it, that creepy mouth guy was right, her world has just been revolving around having a boyfriend lately). It'd have been so good to see.

Instead, we got....well, anyone that watches (watched?) Arrow knows exactly what we got. Let's just say that there's a reason the show's ratings hit an all-time low after Laurel's final episode. It was all downhill from there.

I miss the writing from the early seasons. You guys remember how awesome season 2 was with Slade and the introduction of the League and that awesome fight where they took on all of Slade's people? I miss that.

Okay, I think I'm done. If you made it this far, I salute you for reading that, lol. Not that it's obvious by this post but I generally try to keep it pretty positive when thinking about what's coming with shows. Arrow has just....stomped on that and it built up until I had to get it out. Hell if I was going to do it over on Tumblr either. You post a rant over there and if it goes against someone's opinion, they're suddenly reblogging it to their followers who think how they do and it just spirals out of control while you start getting bitchy messages and the like. At least, that's what it's seemed like lately and I, frankly, don't need to deal with that.

Flashpoint

I'm pretty sure that it was back in May that I was going to post my theories on what was going to happen next season on The Flash. But life happened and then I completely forgot. So, by now, I'm sure everyone knows what happened in the finale and has their own theories but I'm still going to post about it.

To start, Barry screwed everything to hell and back. Because, well, Barry.

(Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Barry. But there are times he frustrates me so much that I want to bury my face in a pillow and scream. This icon? Using it because I'm 99% sure that this was what we didn't see Barry do before he decided to go for a jaunt through time.)

Okay, so if you've read the comics, you know that Barry going back and saving his mom is a storyline taken straight from the comics. *points at title of post* And there's the title of that particular storyline - as well as the animated movie that was done for the same storyline.

For one, I'm sure this is how we're getting Wentworth Miller for so many episodes on The Flash since it was reported that between this and LoT, Wentworth would be in enough episodes to total an entire season. And Captain Cold is a big part of the Flashpoint arc, though I think they'll probably twist it a bit since I highly doubt we're suddenly going to get Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg, etc. on the show.

In Flashpoint, Barry wakes up after saving his mom only to find he has no powers anymore (why this is such a surprise to Barry, I'll never know - you literally destroyed the timeline, dude, of course you don't have powers anymore). But the part that I always find particularly hilarious is that he finds that the hero of Central City is one Captain Cold who, in this new timeline, goes by Citizen Cold. He's been given the key to the city multiple times and even has a museum dedicated to him the way Barry will in the future. Of course, he's not Mr. Nice Guy, he's a pretty violent hero, if I remember right, and he'll do anything to keep people from finding out that he started out as a criminal. (Basically, he's in it for the money and the women in the comics.) In the comics, Citizen Cold ends up dying after Wally figures out who he is and Cold kills him. When he goes to meet Iris for a date, she has found out what he did and uses his own cold gun on him.

I doubt they'll go that route with the show but you never know. But I'm doubting it because Barry's going to need some help restoring the timeline and with the show, he's only going to have a few options. Now in the animated film, it's Batman. I'm pretty sure it's Batman in the comics as well. (Along with Reverse Flash at some point because he decides to taunt Barry with "Ha, look what you did!" and gets screwed.) We don't have Batman. We might not have Oliver since we don't know if he'll be the Green Arrow in this new timeline. It could be like Earth-2 where he's the one that died and his dad is the Green Arrow. Who knows?

So I think they'll be having Leonard Snart play a part in restoring the timeline, though I have a feeling he'll probably be reluctant to be all that helpful. Especially if Barry does what he does in both the comics and film and recreates the events that gave him his powers. Of course, they've already done that once so I'm pretty iffy on what they'll do there. Either way, Leonard's going to be one of the only ones that Barry knows and he'll have influence in this new world. Better the devil you know, I suppose.

The other major part is the war that Wonder Woman and Aquaman are raging against each other in this new timeline. Again, TV show budget, I doubt we'll get to see his war. But Cisco kept seeing the world splitting in two and falling apart. Everyone assumed he was seeing Earth-2 falling because of Zoom. I think he was getting a vision about what Barry was going to do. After all, look how he kept getting that vision of a black canary dying. Not that anyone realized what that meant until Black Siren threw Laurel's death in Barry's face. So I think that vision of buildings crumbling was Cisco seeing that Barry was going to be destroying the timeline. Either that or we'll be seeing Central City falling because of the war that's happening all over and maybe just get glimpses of what's going on and how it's hitting Central City.

Also, with Barry screwing the timeline, I'm assuming this means Laurel is alive and well again so I wonder if we'll see her again. I just don't know how they can have the timeline completely changed on one show that's connected to all the others and write separate storylines for the others. (Though, honestly, I wouldn't be surprised with Marc Guggenheim. JFC. He's already mentioned that there'll be a statue of Laurel in season 5. Just...don't get me started on his idiocy.) I hope we see at least something on the other shows though. I'd love to see how the other characters and their timelines might be changed by Barry's actions.

Just a little bit of what I'm thinking when it comes to next season and, honestly, the only solid thing I know is that Grant's confirmed the title of the season 3's first episode is Flashpoint. And Brandon Routh has said there's a hell of a lot of time travel in the first episode of LoT's season 2 so we'll be seeing a lot of different time periods.

I suppose I'll find out in October!

I bought the first two books of The Raven Cycle on Friday because I've been hearing so much about it and it does sound good - anyone read it at all? I'm curious if it's all just hype on Tumblr or if anyone else has read it and likes it.

Before I get to those though, I've still got a trilogy to finish reading and there's technically a stack of books on two of my bar stools that I really should try and make a dent in.

This is what happens when I find so many good fics! (Captain Canary fandom and Tony Stark fandom, I'm looking at you.) I forget to read actual books. Also, I've been rereading some of my favorite Fast & Furious fics too, darn it. And I see a new Kradam by spikedluv is up - which caused me to do a literal double take and then check the year on the post because it's been so long since any Kradam fic has popped up on my friends list, lol!

So much reading to get done - this is going to interfere with writing, I can just tell.

Meh, worth it.
