Taumant (starogrčki: Θαύμαντος ) u grčkoj mitologiji bio je bog mora, sin Ponta i Geje, i brat Nereja, Forka, Kete i Euribije.[1]
Mitologija
[uredi | uredi izvor]Prema Hesiodu, Taumantova supruga bila je Elektra (jedna od Okeanida, mnogih kćeri Titana Okeana i Tetide), s kojom je dobio Iridu (glasnicu bogova), Arku (ranije glasnicu Titana) i Harpiju.[2]
Imena Taumantovih kćeri Harpija variraju. Hesiod i Apolodor su ih nazvali: Ela i Okipeta. Vergilije navodi Kelenu kao jednu od Harpija.[3] Međutim, dok Higin, u Fabulama 14.18, navodi Harpije, Kelenu, Okipetu i Podarku, kao kćeri Taume i Elektri, za Harpije se kaže da se zovu Ela, Kelena i Okipeta, i da su kćeri Taumanta i Ozomene.[4]
Pjesnik Non iz 5. vijeka daje Taumantu i Elektri dvoje djece, Iris, i rijeku Hidaspes.[5]
Platon povezuje Taumantovo ime sa (starogrčki: θαῦμα , "čudo").[6]
Taumant je također bilo ime kentaura koji se borio protiv Lapita u Kentauromahiji.[7]
