New Hunter community

Based on the searchword in the back of Changeling: The Lost, it's looking like the next World of Darkness game is going to be a remake of Hunter: The Reckoning.

So I've started up a new community for discussion of it, which can be found at wod_hunter.

Posted to wod_changeling, new_wod, and dangerousgame

NYC?

I don't know if anyone really pays attention to this much anymore. I just remembered it existed because I'm trying to scrape together players for a H:tR game. (Which, come to think of it, might not be in the area of really anyone on here. I have no clue.)

But.

If you're in the NYC area, want to play some Hunter, or, hell, even run a game. Let me know. My girlfriend is new to the whole system and I know it like the back of my hand. (The one good thing about a game line ending is that it's easy to make sure you have all the books.)

Any takers?

Good Hunter Movie News

Uwe Boll has been dropped as the director of the upcoming Hunter film!

I think that we can all agree that this is a cause for celebration. I have nothing against a Hunter movie being made as long as it's good, and now there's a much higher probability of that happening. Yay!

Sorta off-topic: World of Warcraft guilds

Hey, all. Sorry for the interruption, but I've got something that may be of interest to those of you who play World of Warcraft. I'm setting up guilds specifically for White Wolf fans. The emphasis will be on roleplaying. And what makes our guild different is that, through use of the MyQuests AddOn, I'll be setting up actual quests you can go on and complete for actual tangible rewards: money, equipment, promotion within the guild. The quests will be largely tongue-in-cheek White Wolf references, but firmly set in the WoW universe.

If you're interested, the guilds are Lupus Albus for the Alliance and Salmu Kalb for the Horde. The website is wow.wolf-spoor.org.

My husband and I bought this game at a resell shop and we love it. The only problem is that I am having a hard time finding cheat codes to beat the game. Can anyone share some or point me in the right direction. I just want to know how I can make myself more powerful to beat the f-cker at the end.

I'd sort of forgotten this community was here, until someone reminded me by posting to it earlier.

My question is this: in Hunter Code, what's the Innocent symbol? (Yes, I like the Innocents, deal with it :p) I've got a note of it around somewhere, I just can't seem to find it, and Google seems to be rather lacking in HC. Is there a site with a comprehensive list of HC, or can anyone give me a quick sketch?

Thanks :)

WW Wiki

Forgive the crosspost.

A couple of weeks back I started up the White Wolf Wiki, which is (theoretically) the most elaborate, comprehensive White Wolf encyclopedia/database. It's developing nicely, I must say. But it really doesn't have anything in the way of Hunter: The Reckoning content.

So I'm asking any and all who are interested to drop on by, check the place out, and help fill it up with all sorts of Hunter goodness.

Looking forward to seeing what we come up with!

Hunter movie update

Courtesy of wolfspoor: Mike Tinney from White Wolf speaks out on the Hunter movie.

"Some changes simply must be made, in order to accommodate the 90 - 120 minute format of movies, as opposed to the 30+ plus hours of video game play or the 25+ book library of games and novels that comprise the core of the Hunter: the Reckoning property."

Somehow this doesn't make me feel any better about what's happening. I was under the impression that if a "property" doesn't translate ideally to a movie format, maybe that's a sign that the movie shouldn't be made in the first place. Yes, business, exists to make money, blah blah, I get it. But it still strikes me as kind of a slap in the face to the people who worked so hard to create Hunter for that name to be associated with something that, by all appearances, is going to be a misinterpretation of the source material at best.

"Hunter's a good property in that it's core elements are translatable into many different formats...The movie will have more horror, and more character depth and so, here with Uwe we'll have the opportunity to show those aspects of the Hunter brand."

See, I think the problem here is not that a movie is being made. God knows I would *love* to see a well-done Hunter movie. And movies such as Frailty, Stir Of Echoes, etc. have demonstrated that Hunter-esque themes can translate well to the big screen. I just question the talent and dedication of the filmmakers to whom it has been entrusted. What I can't stand is when people dismiss Hunter as a game that's about violence without consequences, or "doing something because the voices in my head told me to," when that couldn't be further from the truth. And I think that a loud, obnoxious bloodbath of a movie is all that's going to result from this, rather than the kind of treatment that Hunter deserves.

Please tell me that I'm not the only one out there who has at least *some* opinion on this movie being made. It doesn't bother me if other Hunter players are in favor of this. What does bother me is if the few remaining players are apathetic.

(x-posted to dangerousgame and my personal journal)

This community's been mighty quiet for awhile but I think it's high time it got a little noisier.

Follow the link for an interview with Uwe Boll, director of the upcoming movie version of Hunter.

I realize that this is based on the video game and not the pen-and-paper RPG, but still...Please tell me I'm not the only one who is DREADING the release of this movie, if that's what it's going to be like. I think it's kind of an affront to all the talented writers and developers who worked so hard to make such a nuanced and thought-provoking RPG, probably the best RPG ever as far as I'm concerned, to have a movie like this floating around out there and reflecting on the work they did when this movie as it's described in the interview seems like the antithesis of everything the game is supposed to be about.

*sigh* It's hard enough getting people to understand what Hunter is like and why it's a great game as it stands. And now it's getting wrecked even further. But that's just my opinion, of course; I'm curious to hear what the rest of you think.

Hello all my fellow Hunter: The Reckoning fans.

There is a new Hunter: The Reckoning RP Community called ljhunter_net run by me(warewolf111) and safecracker72.
A couple of things, links stuff...

First off:

Hunter Net.org.UK-
I am running a Hunter the Reckoning LARP in Tampa, Florida. My game, Suicide Kings, uses the following as our official Hunter Net: http://hunter-net.org.uk/
It's run by a Hunter Game and its staff from the UK. Good stuff, fairly conservative about the subject matter on the list (no monsters can post, no use of WW lore nad terms from other games...)

Second:

The Hunter Project
A resource site for Hunter the Reckoning Players and Storytellers:
http://217.44.16.66/hunternet/
Fan generated material, including NPCs, Character Sheets, game settings (hometowns and cities), and other random editorials.

And, lastly, a player of mine found a H:tR quiz, which I am sure you all have seen somewhere else, and is not new, and how dare I post it here. Damn me.

But, here it is...

The Messengers have spoken..

You are a Judge!

Primary Virtue: Zeal

"The eyes and ears of the battle against
monsters. Judges seek to uphold the greater
good, whether it means destroying creatures or
sparing them and questioning other hunters'
motives."

What Hunter: The Reckoning Creed Are You?
brought to you by Quizilla

Thats all for now.

Happy Hunting,

Hi there everyone,

I'm somewhat new to Hunter within the last three months or so and am finally ready to start running a game. I've got a couple players ready to go but I'm looking for a few more. If you're in the Washington area and within driving distance of Tacoma and are interested in a Hunter game, write me an e mail, reply to this post or check out our web site:

http://www.darkrepast.com/hunter.htm

If anyone has any special advice about how they've run games of this type in the past, I'd be interested in chatting as well.

Thanks!

Hunter Returns?

If you check out worldofdarkness.com, you can see just where the direction new WOD is taking. No more Final Nights it appears.

Just for memory's sake.
Vampire: The Requiem
Werewolf: The Foresaken
Mage: The Awakening

Is there room for Hunters in this new world? From what they've leaked about Vampire, it seems that hunters of many sorts will fit into this new world. The question is whether they will do it or not. I open up this topic to any discussion of what you would like to see in a New Hunter. Keep in mind, I think that the entirety of the old Hunter system was perfect. In fact, I even liked the botch system for Hunter. While for the other games, it made things more tedious, hunters lived kind of an on the seat-of-their-pants, anything that can go wrong could go wrong.

Think of a new title. The Reckoning is over. I haven't read the Hunter section in World of Darkness: Time of Judgment, but I intend to report on that here soon. From what I understand, the spirit world has gotten quieter. If Orpheus is any indication, this new silence is not a good thing. Things are still going on, but younger ghosts seem to have little reason to enter the world. Which would be a problem for Hunters. They seem to enter the world specifically to fight the coming "Walking Dead". Only the experienced hunters or the very unlucky would find themselves battling The "Nocturnal", "Moonstruck", "Nightmares" or the "Witches/Warlocks" Or worse, The "Infernal".

If you've forgotten what archetypes are for, it's just the terms used for Nature and Demeanor. I've compiled a far from complete collection on this website. Please tell me what you think of it, I used the one sentence descriptions, this isn't meant to be a replacement for any White Wolf literature but just a helpful reference.

On another note, do you know if there's anyway to change the blue to another color?

<body link="Gray" vlink="#666666" alink="#999999"">
<div style="text-align: center;"><big><font size=" 5"><big><small style="font-family: whiffy;"><a
href="http://therealm.oakapple.net/white/archetypes.html">The Book of
Archetypes</a></small></big></font></big></div></body>

Redeemer

She talks once more!

Well, can't say I know my say on HR the table top- but I'm definatly into the game.

My brother finally talked me into buying HR: Redeemer. I'm glad he did. Its MUCH better than the original- graphics wise, sound, quality- its great. I definatly adore the whole 'Keylie' angle. But how one adopted by a priest could still dress that skantally- is beyond me. It always amuse me when they animate the breast jiggle at every turn. Tho I adore the character. Anyway- it kicks. (any game that has Carpenter in it- AND as a secret playable char- automatically ownz in my book)

I was wondering about the less aclaimed game: Wayward.
The secound game- so I've read. But.. is it worth its salt?
It seems like a failed attempt to drag out the first game. I mean... The defender has a fro, the priest is a cowboy, Matry can't seem to choose her image (tho she seems the coolest- her mini scythes look neat).
Yay or nay?

Thanks for putting up with this gaming ramble.

Film rights to Hunter sold!

Holy crap, you guys!

According to this story from Wolfspoor, a Hunter: The Reckoning movie (based on the video game of course) may be in the works!

What do you think of this new development in the Hunter world? My knee-jerk reaction is that it's a bad idea, since it would seem there is a very strong possibility of getting a truly bad movie out of this...but then again, I thought the same about the video game, and that has turned out okay and actually turned on a lot of people to the pen-and-paper RPG who would not have done so otherwise. Thoughts? Opinions?

Hey, just thought I'd introduce myself.

I haven't played hunter yet, but the very concept intrigues me enough to make me WANT to play it (I've been a Werewolf fan since gods know when). I have an interesting concept for a character, (A grave-robber who was imbued when he and his partner were attacked by rots, he had to fight them off with a shovel) and have no clue what creed he would be as I do not have the books (Not even the core book) and cannot seem to find anyone who does. *sigh* I don't know much about him, other than how he was imbued. So maybe I can get some help?

Other than that, I humbly admit that I was turned on to Hunter: The Reckoning through the X-Box video game and have had no previous interest other than that. But, maybe I can be forgiven for my sins! LoL, I do plan on playing soon, I'm gonna FIND someone in my area to run a game for me, otherwise I'll go out, buy the books and get my dad to run a game.
