So I have this shiny little community called moar_skills that's for financial health. If you have any tips or tricks on how to save money through frugal living or make some much money recycling and selling that clutter in your closet, this is a fantastic place to both share financial tips and ask financial questions.

Recently, there was a post about how to cut out spending on items you don't need using psychological tricks, and I thought some members here might be interested in sharing some ideas there. :D

The tags keep the community from being utterly boring, I swear.

Sometimes I just feel like the biggest loser.

I dress very simply. I don't wear any jewelry. I usually do not wear any make-up, and when I do, it is only a tiny bit. I know nothing about clothes shopping. Usually I am quite satisfied with this. My appearance reflects my values of simplicity and thrift. But every now and then, I start to feel very uncomfortable with how different I look. I am not very pretty and I compare myself to the girls up on campus. They are tidy; my hair, especially after being pulled in and out of coats and scarves, is always in disarray. Their cheeks are rosy; my nose is red! Their clothing is warm and attractive; mine is disheveled and frumpy. They sit quietly, dutifully taking notes; I interrupt and ask questions.

Today, I pulled a desk up beside one of the regular auditorium seats, and the girl there asked if I wanted to sit there (in her spot). Am I that intimidating, that I look like I am trying to take your seat when I am clearly pulling up my own?

I should be accustomed to not fitting in. I never have. But sometimes it is a little bit more difficult than usual.

I haven't read the books you've mentioned, but I've been in the process of "simplifying" my life for about 2 years now. My goal is to be able to retire by the time I'm 50 or 55 (I'm 42 now). I'm very interested in making this an active, local group and finding a support group that doesn't want to spend all their money partying, etc. It would be great if we could all share our interests and look for fun, free activities to do together, etc. Count me in.

What is "enough"? When do you have "enough"? Do you enjoy your work? Are you passionate about it? Are you tied to a job you don't find rewarding but feel like you can't leave because you have bills to pay and a lifestyle to maintain? Are you married to your stuff?

This community is for discussion of the principles of simple living.
