We have a date!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be published on July 21!

Too bad E's not really into Harry Potter - that would make for an awesome birthday party! I'd throw a slumber party for L and a couple of friends, but not the day before E's birthday...

This is cool and weird at the same time.

Art Garfunkel has a list of everything he's read since 1960 on his website.

He's got good taste in books!

Aesthetically pleasing

In the day-to-day activities of my job, I rarely have something that makes me stop and say "wow." Today someone requested an article from the journal Cancer Control and I was pleasantly surprised. Take a look - each issue is represented by a piece of art, and in turn, each article also has an artpiece. This journal is freely accessible, so anybody can view the articles.

I thought I posted this yesterday, but I must have gotten sidetracked before I finished...so, a day late...

Merry Christmas to all!

Our morning has been pleasant. We told the kids they couldn't get up until 6:00, and, like clockwork, at 6:00 they both headed to the Christmas tree to see what Santa brought. They are both on the verge of letting go of Santa, but they were both caught up in the magic this morning. I bet this will be the last year... They both got iPod shuffles, but Eli seemed much more delighted by his Pokemon card pack. I don't feel like either one were overwhelmed with gifts, which makes me happy.

I feel like a little kid on Christmas, because Jimmy bought me a Nintendo DS Lite, and Laura bought me Super Mario Bros. I've been having so much fun playing! I also got Stiff by Mary Roach and Tithe by Holly Black, the board game Balderdash (which I opened a few nights ago), and a pretty dragonfly necklace that Eli picked out all by himself.

John Denver & The Muppets A Christmas Together

Enjoy this classic video as a Christmas gift from me to you!

Books finished

I'm not sure when I last posted about the books I've finished, but here are the most recent.

To Kill a Mockingbird: I read this in high school but just re-read it. I love, love, love this book! 5 stars, no question

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer: Not mindbreakingly good, but I enjoyed it anyway. Teenage romance, with vampires. I gave it 3 1/2 stars.

On the menu

There's gonna be some bakin' in da house!

Either today or tomorrow there are plans for the following:

sausage breakfast casserole (a tradition for Christmas morning)
Tex-Mix
peanut butter cookies
chocolate brownie pie (still undecided as to whether I'm going to attempt the crust myself - I have the stuff to make it, but I also bought refrigerated crusts just in case I either fail miserably or decide not to try)
possiby sausage balls

We've got a ham to cook tomorrow, but we don't plan to over-do it on the Christmas dinner thing. Just a few sides and a dessert. Of course, those "few sides" keep multiplying...but, other than the hashbrown casserole I'm going to make, they're all out of a can or frozen.

I also bought some chestnuts to roast. Who says Christmas is about the presents? It's all about the food, baby.

I totally read the clock wrong a little while ago. I could have sworn is said 10:53, which meant about 45 minutes before I could leave. But I just now read the clock again and it just *now* says 10:42. Bummer.
