Suze Orman has been coined America’s favorite financial advisor by The New York Times, and “a force in the world of personal finance” and a “one-woman financial advice power house” by USA today.

A #1 New York Times bestselling author, two-time Emmy Award winner, host of the popular Women & Money podcast, magazine and online columnist, writer/producer, and one of the top motivational speakers in the world today, Suze Orman is undeniably America’s most recognized expert on personal finance.

The single most successful fundraiser in the history of PBS, Orman has received an unprecedented eight Gracie Awards, which recognize the nation's best radio, television, and cable programming by, for, and about women. Twice named to the TIME 100 and ranked among the World's 100 Most Powerful Women by Forbes, Orman was the host of The Suze Orman Show on CNBC for 13 years (now available to stream for free on Amazon Freevee) and a contributing editor to O: The Oprah Magazine for 16. Some may say, however, that her true claim to fame is having been spoofed on Saturday Night Live four times.

Orman's incredible journey to becoming America's most recognized expert on personal finance began as a young broker at Merrill Lynch, helping clients of all backgrounds create a financially secure retirement plan. Orman was an account executive at Merrill Lynch from 1980 to 1983, served as Vice President-Investments for Prudential-Bache Securities from 1983 to 1987, then directed the Suze Orman Financial Group from 1987 to 1997.

Currently, Orman hosts the popular Women & Money podcast, serves as the official personal-finance educator for the United States Army and Army Reserve, and is a special advocate for the National Domestic Violence Hotline, bringing her message of awareness and empowerment to women who have suffered financial abuse. On her days off, you will find Suze and her wife, KT, spending time out on the water in the Bahamas, following their newfound passion for wahoo fishing.

Cover very “Gooey”
Inside of book is very good- no marks or messes. The cover of the book- was damp and gooey- i don’t know what it was- I ended up throwing the paper cover away, and tried to clean up the hard cover. That’s the price one pays for buying used.

We had hired a commission based financial advisor and used her services for a few years. I don’t want even think about how much money we unknowingly gave her. We knew it was something, but thought it was much less than it was. But I didn’t understand finances so I thought it was necessary. Luckily I kept following financial advice podcasts and posts that repeatedly said you should not pay someone a commission for helping you with your finances; if you want help, get a fee based advisor. We thought a commission based advisor would be better because they would be so invested in making our money grow because it would benefit them; but this financial advisor didn’t do anything with our money except put it in an index fund and tell us how the fund was doing. We had to ask about HYSAs and HSAs and found out later that anytime we added money to an account, commission was taken-that should not happen. We now do it ourselves so I need to understand more about what we’re doing, so in addition to podcasts, I read this book. It is clearly written and if I didn’t quite understand something, I asked AI. With all of the tools available to people now, financial advisors who just put money in an index fund are going to be out of a job and quite frankly, should be. We never got any kind of advice except to leave the money in the index fund and put money in as we are able. We don’t need to pay a commission to someone to tell us that. This book affirms that opinion and gives some options. One we’re going to need to look into soon is long term care insurance which absolutely does not sound fun to pay for, but is definitely a consideration.

I have been a Suze Orman fan for many, many years. I was a fan of her tv show, have read past books, and was even on the "can you afford it?" segment of her show. She has been instrumental in my financial health and never steers you wrong.

As I'm nearing retirement I wanted to gain more information about this stage of my financial planning and this book did not disappoint. I found the sections on understanding social security, investment strategies for this stage of my career, health and long-term care, and estate planning particularly helpful. You do not need to read this book from cover to cover. You can pick the section that is of interest at the moment and come back to the others when you need them.

This will be a book that I refer back to often.

The terminology may be different, the products for retirement savings have different rules, but the principles she teaches are as relevant wherever you live. How to choose a financial advisor, what sort of investments carry more security into retirement - and more, all serve to give you confidence moving into your retirement years. Thank you Suze Orman!
