Some missed opportunities but so far great!

Easy to use, fast setup, and a great upgrade for streaming
Reviewed in Canada on June 5, 2026This Fire TV Stick is a great little device if you want an easy way to turn a regular TV into a smart streaming setup. The installation is simple, the interface is user-friendly, and it gives quick access to popular streaming apps all in one place. It is a convenient option if you want something compact that does not take up space and is easy to travel with as well.
The Alexa voice remote is also a nice feature because it makes searching for shows and controlling playback a lot easier than typing everything manually. Overall, it is a practical and worthwhile device for everyday streaming, especially if you want something simple, reliable, and easy to set up.

Some missed opportunities but so far great!
Reviewed in Canada on December 4, 2021I thought I would give this a try because I also love my Alexa products, love them!
I have been using roku products up to this point so that’s what I am essentially basing my judgement on.
So to review this, I’ll start by saying it functions as it should essentially turns my tv into a smart tv and has all the apps I’ve looked for. That being said the set up is a little more difficult than a roku, not difficult in general but by comparison.
Because it is Amazon, the home screen is essentially like logging in to your prime app but being able to navigate to Netflix and Disney+ etc from within the prime app. So that means unlike roku where your home screen can be customized for holidays and such.. unless Amazon is playing a Christmas movie ad or something you’re sort of stuck with the home screen you get. The same goes for screen savers, you download for example, a fireplace app on the roku and then set it as your screen saver easy as pie. You can download a fireplace app on the fire stick however you can only use it by launching the app, the only options for my screen saver on the fire stick are the generic Amazon photos or my personal photos from Amazon photos. Which is nice if you want to customize your tv as sort of a giant photo album display, but I’m not really into that being the only options.
I like to use my tv as part of my decor so it was nice to be able to change my screensaver and home screen theme to fit the season or to even match my living room decor, so in that regard. I would say roku is the better option.
One of the main reasons I purchased this was to use with my Alexa products, and with this you can ask Alexa to turn the tv off and on, control the volume, and to a degree, chose specific shows movies hands/remote free. There is only one problem with this and that is when you initially turn on the tv it takes you to your prime login and asks which account you’re watching from, I have not be able to find a way to give Alexa a command to choose a profile, which means I have to get my remote and select my profile anyways so it kid of defeats the purpose.
And finally, the biggest missed opportunity.. I thought because my echo and my fire stick remote can connect that you would be able to set a command to find your remote if you misplaced it, but there isn’t. Like just say ‘Alexa find my remote’ and then it would beep or something but no luck.
All in all it’s a good product just a little more work than a roku and a little less customizable, but you have the ability to pair with Alexa so I’d say it just depends on preference.

Great find
Reviewed in Canada on January 16, 2025So I had a friend show me these things and I just had to go out and get one it was perfect solution for the tv and my kids trying to use it as well as all of the other functions it has the biggest one I liked was you can speak into the remote so when my kids couldn't spell at first they could find things they wanted to watch with the speak into the remote function. Also I liked it so much I got one for each room in the house (3) you pretty well get the same features on all the different types of firesticks and there's alot. Turns out I can turn most of my home into a smart home with the 3 firesticks and an Amazon Alexa as well as a couple other Amazon Alexa program you can control most of your Alexa smart home product from here (haven't figured out all functions yet) but definitely something I recommend quite easy to use as well and the remote can hook up to your tv with the firestick so you would only need one remote to control the power, volume and to control the screen which I really like since I've lost most of my remotes. All and all love the firestick with remotes and so do my children and my friends kids they are great and I've been recommending them to anyone who doesn't already have something for their tv.

Can do a lot!
Reviewed in Canada on July 22, 2022I ordered the fire stick with Alexa remote (59.99 model but was on sale).
Here's what I've learned and experienced so far:
I almost returned it the day I set it up. It was not difficult to set up but was very tedious. A lot of signing into everything and passwords, linking etc.
The worst part was that once I got it going, it became very glitchy.. the screen would go black or grey and the remote wouldn't work on YouTube at all. I went to "restart" under settings , MyfireTv, and then it worked fine after that.
I previously used chromecast and just casted from my phone but thought the firestick would give me more options, and I think it does, although takes some time and work to figure out what else you can get on it that you cannot get elsewhere. TBH, you can get most of the apps elsewhere it seems, but the firestick makes it handy to have everything in one place, especially if you want to get off of your phone at night like I do.
The biggest frustration for me is that I mostly watch YouTube and a bit of prime video but the amount of ads on YT via firestick vs chromecast made me want to return it until I found another app for it, and I also learned how to cast from my phone to the firestick after a little web searching. I also found the volume for YT would go up and down to extremes on the original app, which was beyond annoying.
Another frustration is that it the interface doesn't tell you which apps are ones that you have to pay for until you download it and try to watch, then you find out and have to delete them.
I downloaded the "downloader" app to be able to access more apps not displayed on the firestick and there is a whole other world of apps to be discovered, which I am just now learning.
There are also ways to save data on the device under "display and audio" as well as removing cache under each app. You can also protect your privacy by removing authorizations under "preferences, privacy settings."
At this point, I'm happy with the firestick since I've been able to get it to work to my liking and I feel that I will have a lot more options than chromecast offered me, but it will take some work.
Chromecast is simpler but offers less options. And if you want to put your phone away at night, firestick gives you this option whereas chromecast doesn't.
