Jack's Worry
Purchase options and add-ons
Jack loves playing the trumpet, and for weeks he’s been looking forward to taking part in his first concert. But on the morning of the big day, Jack finds he has a Worry. And his Worry starts to grow. Even when Jack’s mother calls him for a special breakfast, even when he hides under the bed or runs around the yard, his Worry follows him. Suddenly, when it’s almost time to leave for the concert, Jack finds it’s all too much. For anyone who’s ever been afraid of failing at something new, this book offers just what’s needed to shrink a Worry down to size.

Ideal antidote for anxious kids facing their own Worries.

Performing in a first musical concert can be a nerve-wracking experience, as Zuppardi has artfully visualized...The acrylic-and-pencil illustrations truly transmit the amorphous nature of worrying, using convincing facial and body language, followed by huge happy smiles portraying a joyful resolution.
—Booklist
Zuppardi’s scribbly pencils and expressive bursts of paint readily capture the big, intense emotions Jack is feeling.

This book will appeal to young readers. The simple pencil drawings add to the effect of the emotional nuances, and the text is simple yet comforting for a child. It will be a great lap read!

Review from Books That Heal Kids
Reviewed in the United States on May 9, 2016Such a great book to help kids understand their anxiety and how to overcome it. I feel like I have so many kids who are dealing with worry. These worries are debilitating because kids don't know what to do other then Fight, Flight, or Freeze.
Jack is worried about performing in a concert so he tries to deal with it by avoiding having to go. When his mom asks him if everything is OK, he cannot find the words to talk about his worry. Many children feel this way. He is afraid of making a mistake in the concert. His mom is able to reassure him that the concert is about having fun and not about being perfect. His worry begins to shrink.
When he arrives at the concert he sees his friends are also covered with worry. So he helps them make their worries go away. As an elementary counselor I am so happy to have this new resource. It's going to help me show kids how to open up, develop strategies, and face their fears.
This is also a fantastic book for reinforcing that making mistakes is OKAY!

excellent book!
Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2018We initially got this book from our local library, but loved it so much we NEEDED our own copy. This is wonderful work around anxiety that is so accessible for kids! It hits right on the basic principles of shame that often drive anxiety. Really well written and delivered in a way that kids really get the message - they are worthy even if they mess up. Highly recommend!!!

Reviewed in Canada on May 28, 2016A wonderful book. The 6 year old boy I purchased it for, loved it. I believe he got the message of the book because he understood right away the concept of the pictures and when the colour changed he was ab le to interpret and tell me what it meant. Wonderful I would recommend it to anyone who has a child who thinks he or she has to be perfect all the time. It is ok to make mistakes.

Ellie D.5 out of 5 starsPerfect for a little worrier.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 27, 2017There seems to be so much to worry children these days. This lovely book illustrates beautifully how a worry can grow and turn into fear and dread. Sit down with your little one and read this when big days approach. It's a good reminder that however things turn out, your parents will always love and be proud of you.
