Maxwell Food Centre is hands down one of the best places to experience authentic Singaporean hawker food—a true paradise for anyone who loves bold flavors, local culture, and hearty meals at unbeatable prices.

Right in the heart of Chinatown, the vibe is buzzing yet welcoming, with locals and tourists coming together over steaming bowls of noodles, sizzling satay, and world-famous Hainanese chicken rice. And yes, Tian Tian Chicken Rice lives up to the hype—moist, flavorful chicken, fragrant rice, and a chili sauce that hits just right. It’s legendary for a reason.

But what really makes Maxwell stand out is the variety. From crispy Fuzhou oyster cakes to comforting fish soup, laksa, dim sum, and even fresh sugarcane juice, there’s something here to satisfy every craving. I loved that many of the stalls have been run by the same families for generations—you can really taste the passion in every bite.

The food is incredibly affordable, portions are generous, and everything is served fresh and fast. Seating is communal and casual, which only adds to the charm—just grab a tray, find a seat, and dig in.

If you want to eat like a local and experience the soul of Singapore’s food culture, Maxwell Food Centre is a must-visit. I’ve been twice on this trip alone, and I’d go back again in a heartbeat.

Highly recommend the chicken rice!! Thought I was waiting in line for 15 mins but its definitely worth it! Good price for the quality, the ginger sauce was one of the best and the rice is so soft.

It wasn’t too crowded on Monday evening, the place is quite clean and table are available for most people and even if you have to wait, it won’t be long before you get to enjoy your meal.

The place is right next to the MRT exit. Highly recommend to come for experience and good meals 🙌🏼

Great kaya toast and a really pleasant experience. The lady working there was very kind and welcoming, which made the visit even better. I’d happily stop by again during my stay in Singapore.

Really sweet and friendly staff. We went right before the lunar new year and they shared some of their cookies with us. Their kaya toast tastes a little bit different from the other kaya shops but also very, very good. The Ciabatta is really good. Their traditional Kaya toast also really good. I want to try their orange Ciabatta next when we visit. Their coffee is also good, not too sweet and not very acidic.

We were there at evening time . While we were eating our food . 1 staff started lifting all the chair upside down resting on the tables and start sweeping the floor . I told him we are still eating but he carry on sweeping.

Next the mee Siam taste terrible, I told 1 female staff she just smile at me . Very bad experience.

One of my favourite food centres. Great selection and food. Easy to get to via Bus 36 from Changi. Due for a nice power cleaning though.

Old Airport Road Food Center is one of popular places for breakfast and lunch.  There are many nice food around such as Lor Mee, Hokkien Mee, Prawn Noddle, Chicken Rice, Roasted Pork and Duck, Western Food, Wanton Noddle.  There is also a new NTUC at level 2. Old Airport Road Food Centre exceeded my expectations with a great variety of Singapore heritage dishes. I also loved the creativity behind many stall names referencing places like Chong Pang, Kallang, and Blanco Court — adds local charm.
•	Old Airport Road Fried Hokkien Mee (#01-99) – 4/5: Wet-style Hokkien Mee with decent wok hei, generous prawns, good value.
•	Famous Old Airport Fried Oyster (#01-101) – 3/5: Soggy omelette, overcooked prawns, not worth $10.
•	Chong Pang Huat BBQ (#01-90) – 3/5: Expensive, small portions, hygiene issues.
•	Jin Fried Rice (#01-63) – 5/5: Fragrant mala fried rice with pork chop — excellent, must-try.
•	Chuan Loo Bee Hokkien Food (#01-111) – 2/5: Tough pork ribs, odd sauce, disappointing.
•	Whampoa Soya Bean (#01-68) – 4/5: Solid traditional desserts; soya drinks slightly diluted.
•	Unkai Japanese Cuisine (#01-88) – 5/5: Generous salmon bowl, wallet-friendly, satisfying.
•	Western Barbeque (#01-53) – 3/5: Chicken chop okay but lacks flavour; queues are long.
•	Famous Kallang Airport Fried Oyster (#01-55) – 2/5: Oily, overwhelming, still hunting for a better version.
•	Salt (#01-128) – 4/5: Aglio Olio with teriyaki chicken — decent but slightly pricey.
•	Yi Ji Fried Prawn Noodles (#01-73) – 3.5/5: Carrot cake decent, noodles not outstanding.
•	Xin Mei Xiang Lor Mee (#01-116) – 4/5: Double Fish Lor Mee decent; broth mediocre, some service issues.

Overall, a must-visit for variety and heritage flavours, though some stalls are hit-or-miss. Will keep exploring and updating!

The drinks and food here are very good. The owner and staff are very friendly and they take the effort to remember your orders and your name. The place is very busy with many regular customers but the turn over is fast so usually don't have to wait too long to get a table.

The kopi here is trash. Not sure if the beans were burnt or the person making the coffee messed up. But either way, it was a very bad first impression for me. Kopi was sadly grainy and rough too.

Fortunately, their eggs were perfectly cooked and their kaya toast was very well made. Light and crisp and not over flowing with kaya and butter. The balance here was perfect. Would be nice if they used the thicker dark soy sauce for a deeper flavor.

However, at 6.20/set. I'd rather go to yakun where the kopi is also good.

Thick and fragrant coffee, best to go together with Thick toast set B.

Ice Milo and kopi o kosong tilo nice

Charming food centre tucked away on York Hill near Chinatown. Small but packed with great food & full of old-school vibes. It’s also connected by sheltered walkways through Blocks 2, 3 & 9 to the Block 8 MSCP, so it’s an easy walk even when it rains. Great spot for affordable, authentic eats.

No much choices here, still can find essential food to fill up tummy. It is good to have car park right in front of the hawker center.

Did not see this Wu Ji Bak Kut Teh in the directory. Went to the food center and this stall did not have a queue. Tried the bak kut teh and it was just the type I like. The soup was very peppery by taste and the ribs were cooked just nice if you preferred the ribs that were not overcooked though the rice could use better ones to compliment the soup.

It’s not as touristy as Newton or Maxwell, and the prices are very reasonable.
Must try: Lorna Hokkien Mee, Roast Paradise
