🌄 Learning alert! 🌄 Our Project Manager Kannika Thaimai shares some of the early lessons from OKFN’s most recent work on AI for public data. As part of the #AILearningLabs initiative, we are running pilots with Controladoria-Geral da União (CGU) in Brazil and AGESIC in Uruguay to make AI-generated answers traceable, useful, and trustworthy. 🦾🗃 For all those working at the intersection of #AI and #archives: join us at the next Open Knowledge's #AILearningLabs conversation. Alejandro Flores 👇🏾, an anthropologist working with AVANCSO, will moderate a conversation with experts, along with Solana Larsen, AI Literacy Lead at Open Knowledge Foundation, to discuss the design decisions that go into digitising physical archives today. What are the questions that a documentation centre needs to ask/answer to avoid missteps from the beginning? What are the time and resources needed to make an archive ready for AI? We’d love to hear about your experience! 🗓️ Mon, June 8, 2026 🕛 15:00 – 16:30 UTC 📍 Online ✍️ Register now: https://lnkd.in/dXtXhFKE ➕ Learn more about the AI Learning Labs: https://lnkd.in/ddrDfdTm 💬 Join the conversation: https://lnkd.in/dKfJjZRi

📣 New Uruguay/OKFN Partnership: Scaling reliable AI for open data across Latin America [Español en el primer comentario] The Open Knowledge Foundation’s Tech Team is collaborating with AGESIC to develope a prototype that will allow citizens to ask natural-language questions and receive responses that can be traced directly to the underlying datasets in Uruguay’s open data catalogue. As part of the #AILearningLabs initiative, this project employs the same technical architecture that is already being piloted with Brazil’s Controladoria-Geral da União (CGU), exploring a regional blueprint for the integration of reliable AI solutions. We hypothesise that making public data more accessible and usable will reinforce trust in public institutions and help combat misinformation. 👉🏾 Read the full announcement: https://lnkd.in/d983hrh9 We’ll be sharing updates on the project here and on the Open Knowledge Forum.

👏🎂 Congratulations to Nextcloud on its 10th anniversary today! As an organisation that has been active for over two decades, we know just how much resilience it takes to champion an alternative technology stack. Kudos to these folks, who are also maintainers of #DigitalPublicGoods and partners in #TheTechWeWant initiative. Here's to another 10 years!
Ten years, countless contributions, one amazing community. And yes, our 10th cake today! 🎂 Ten years ago, we couldn't have imagined where Nextcloud would be today. But one thing never changed: people need a way to collaborate with privacy, ownership, and freedom. That includes giving access to knowledge and sharing the tools we build collectively. That's the true spirit of open source. Ten years in, that freedom and ownership matter more than ever. The work we do together has never been more relevant. But today, let's celebrate. Happy 10th birthday, Nextcloud! Thank you for being part of our big mission. In one week, we're throwing a real party. Online, with our new release on June 9. At local watch parties around the globe. And in person, at the Nextcloud Summit. Then, we'll keep celebrating all summer long. It's only the beginning. Come join us! Yours, Nextcloud 💙

🗄️ ✨ Many documentation centres in the Global South, which contain unique knowledge and data, are rarely used and are barely surviving due to a number of reasons: lack of resources, generational gap. Digitisation 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 be an answer. But where to start? What are the priorities? What are the resources required? How to make it in a way to take advantage of the inevitable AI? That's the #AILearningLabs discussion next week with AVANCSO. Join us! 👉🏾 https://lnkd.in/dXtXhFKE
