Presentation of my woodlouses daughters

this has inspired me to give you all an isopod tour

these are my clowns and they were all collectively named "the foolish" by my friend. I give each of the colonies a collective name cause ill always have too many to tell apart 🐛

this picture is terrible but they are named "Sylvia" in honor of Burn Pygmalion by the scary jokes. They wouldve been named jinnene but i have a cousin with that name and that wouldve been weird

this little guy is named Tito and his colony just had a huge mold outbreak that killed a lot of them :( I've been slowly nursing the colony back to health but the Titos arent the healthiest right now.

One thing im uncomfortably woke about is bugs. And im actively trying to get more uncomfortably woke. By this i mean i DO believe the normalised fear of bugs stems from both government and business propaganda. The start of household pesticide sales coinciding with the boom in insect related horror movies. The promotion of anti intellectualism and anti enviromentalism. If you're scared of bugs, you wont care about saving them. If you dont care about saving them, you wont care about saving our home, since without bugs it cannot be saved. If you dont care about saving our home, the rich can do whatever they want with the chunks of it they continue to destroy.

I WILL calmly and kindly try to help anyone who is afraid of bugs. I will show them my finds, i will explain their importance, i will tell them just how sweet and gentle and friendly they are. And I WILL shoot down any immature loser who believes senseless killing is the only possible response to not liking something.

Get woke. Love bugs.

EDIT: this breached containment. My usual like count is like 5 😭 i want to clarify i mean people who conflate fear with hate are the ones who wont care about saving our planet, like people who threaten to kill peoples pet bugs or actively kill bugs outside for no apparent reason. Not people who run away from a bee.

I used to be afraid of bugs and I knew it was mostly irrational but I didn't know enough to not be freaked out. Now I've been approaching them with curiosity, I actively observe bugs and try to learn more about them. When there's a bug I don't know much or anything about I'll take a picture and do a bit of research to learn more about it, and most of the time I come to the conclusion that it's just a lil guy.

Bugs are beautiful in their own way and if you take the time to look at their lil faces you'll realize that they're not much different than us.

And now I can confidently say that I love bugs.

A rednote user ( http://xhslink.com/a/hGMGjJtnHQB ) keeps these big tree crickets as pets, they make silk with their mouths to join leaves together, they will try to do it anywhere and they are so cute I'm mad we don't have them here

Giant African Millipedes please! They're my girlfriend's favorite :3

TODAY'S FACT IS

Did you know that the Giant African Millipede (Archispirostreptus gigas) is the largest known living species of millipede? They live up to their name, growing up to 33.5cm long with ~256 legs. They're typically found in east African forests, but can spread into southern parts of Arabia as well.

These are excellent decomposers, helping to break down decaying plant matter and get those nutrients back into the soil. They keep clean by carrying around mites. The mites live on the millipede and clean them up in exchange for food and protection.
