monday meal madness!

**first – thanks for your patience today! the new look got delayed – technical stuff i don’t pretend to understand! but it should be up tonight sometime…stay tuned!**

If you’re new around these parts {hey-eyyy! welcome, y’all!}, Monday’s the day I share our past week in dinners. I do this in the hopes of getting you into your kitchen, exposing you to rad cookbooks, of getting you to plan your meals so you are saving money and not stressed about “what’s for dinner?!”, and – last, but most certainly not at all least – in the hopes of getting you to sit down with your family at dinner time.

It hasn’t been lost on me that the Mister has been accumulating his very own fan base here {ahem!}, so if that means you, you’ll be glad to know he was responsible for three of the four meals I’m sharing today.

Mister, in honor of this being our 10th wedding anniversary week, you get to win today. You’re welcome.

Asian beef stir-fry

Tasty! Asian beef stir fry. It had an nice little sauce, and the steak was delish.

Biggest news, though? Teensy-Weensy scarfed down the rice and said, “Mmmm. This rice is really good suddenly!” She’s HATED rice from day one. Bada-bing! We have a convert! Now she can join the legions of other children across the land who love rice, which is pretty much all the rest of the children in existence.

Need a recipe for stove-top rice? Here’s my easy one.
chicken soup with orzoMr. Fresh Scratch kept telling me about this magical chicken soup he made while he was alone with the girls for the two weeks I was in Europe earlier this summer; a soup that only takes like thirty minutes {maybe less} and that they loved.

Say what?!

Here it is. I can vouch for all of his claims.

Who wants a guest-post by Mr. Fresh Scratch so you can get the recipe? Raise your hands!

Smitten Kitchen's cheddar swirl breakfast buns

You know I have a little thing for breakfast-for-dinner. Love that.

I persisted through the recipe for cheddar swirl breakfast buns from The Smitten Kitchen CookbookImage, even though they didn’t really look like they were rising, and even though I kind of think my yeast has lost it’s alive-ness. I was worried I’d have hockey pucks for dinner, but no!

Behold. I bring you good tidings of great joy.

They were easy and yummy and just required the effort of being home for an afternoon to tend to the dough.

Do not be afraid of things involving yeast!! If I have conquered this fear, you can, too.

Bittman's breakfast burritos

Look at this bunch.

This was an impromptu dinner with my mother-in-law outside last night before making the kids stay up late to watch our annual fireworks over Capitol Lake here in Olympia. Um, they had never been to a fireworks display before. Whoops.

Anyway, Mr. Fresh Scratch wanted to make these breakfast burritos by Mark Bittman {“Bitty,” as we call him since seeing him in Spain: On the Road AgainImage with Mario Batali and Gwyneth Paltrow – rent it! So fun!}. They had three simple ingredients: refried beans, scrambled eggs, and feta.

Kids at my house hate feta.

They were not happy.

In the end, they gave their burritos to us and went inside to make their own without the feta.

We had a little dessert before leaving for the fireworks – a cinchy recipe for hot chocolate pudding by one of my favorite bloggers. Totally recommend it.

Happy Monday!

shhh!

Shhh!

Can you keep a secret?

You can’t?!

Well, that makes two of us.

Big changes are coming to this space! Monday morning, this will all look a lot different. A lot. I am massively in love with Fresh Scratch’s new look, and I cannot, cannot, cannot wait to share it with you.

It comes just in time, too, because I just filled up all my media space here. 9,000-plus images is the end of this road.

Meanwhile, it’s Friday, and you know Friday is the day when I share my week in cell phone pictures.

parking ticketTeensy-Weensy was at a little super-hero-themed theatre camp last week at Olympia Family Theatre. Her adorable little performance was Friday at the end of camp. She wore a cape and saved a stuffed tiger. Hooray!

Non-hooray-ish was the scene when it was over and I walked my girls out to my car. My meter had expired less than one minute before, yet a man was printing me off a ticket. I was like, “Wait! I’m right here!” in my sweetest voice. “Sorry. Once it’s printing, I have to issue it.”

Then I couldn’t be so sweet, even though I felt badly for that guy having to have that sucky job. So I said, “Thanks. Um, not really,” as he handed me this $15 ticket. I mean, come on.

jo-ann scarecrows

seriously?!

This week I ventured to Jo-Ann Fabrics – purposely by myself! – so that I could walk out with just a canvas like I’d planned to.

{Things don’t always go as planned, and my arms were brimming with goods. Whoops. I was a bad girl.}

I was greeted by all this stupid fall stuff. People at Jo-Ann, I am trying to enjoy July. I am enjoying July! Fall means back-to-work for this teacher, and you just rubbed it in my face that it’s coming.

These scarecrows? They were mocking my pain.

yellow fiat

Dear Santa…

Who else wants one of these cuties?

I do. Badly.

But there’s the issue of my family of four.

It has a backseat, though.

“So you’re sayin’ there’s a chance!” {can anyone name that movie?}

DoughnutThis one.

She has been full of naughtiness lately.

But, dang, she’s a cutie.

I baked doughnuts for everyone the other morning, and she wanted to show you all that one matched her jammies.

Too bad she can’t have anymore of that batch of doughnuts, since she snuck some yesterday. 🙂

vacuumingShe found my baggies of seed beads from another lifetime ago in the bottom of her craft box. I asked her not to play with them, so she shook the bags all around, you know, because somehow that wasn’t playing with them in her mind.

Then the baggie opened.

That was fun.

At least I have a newly-skilled person to vacuum around here!

Happy, happy weekend!

Mrs. Fresh Scratch

fondue

Remember how I told you last month that we make fondue once a year at the Fresh Scratch homestead? On the last day of school?

I love that tradition.

We’ve been using the same recipe for a decade-plus, and it really wasn’t working for us. It didn’t have the right consistency.

My friend Emily {are you following her? she’s of (r)evolving mama fame.} heard my plea and shared her recipe. Interestingly, they also make it only once a year, but on….Groundhog’s Day. Love it!

You’ll need:

* a fondue pot of some sort. I had quite a collection for a short time after my wedding – in the early 2000’s, fondue pots were all the rage, man. I use one that is electric. Emily uses one that sits over a sterno. Depending on your type of pot, you can make it directly inside of it, or you might have to do it on your stovetop and then transfer it to your fondue pot.

* 1 lb. mild cheddar {Emily uses half this, but I like it thicker}

* 8 oz. sharp cheddar

* 8 oz. beer {have the rest of the can on hand, in case it needs thinning}

* 1 tbsp. flour

* 1 tsp. mustard

* 1 garlic clove

* stuff to dip into the delicious cheese: cubed French bread, chunks of carrot/celery/broccoli/cauliflower {eww!}/apples {highly recommend}, etc.

Do this:

1. Peel the garlic clove and rub it all over the inside of your pot.

2. Put all the ingredients into the pot and stir with a fork over medium to medium-low heat until it all melts.

 3. If you weren’t already doing this directly into your fondue pot, pour it in. Keep it on low heat, whether with a sterno or electricity.
We have a funny rule at our house that you have to kiss someone at the table if your stuff falls off of your fondue fork into the cheese. Mr. Fresh Scratch brought us this rule, and he loves it.
One of the many fun things about fondue is that you could totally change the taste of it by swapping out which types of cheese you use, which type of alcohol you use {white wine is good}, etc.
You might just have this stuff on hand, so maybe it will be fondue night at your place!
I’ll be right over.

london calling!

Fancy a little re-cap of my recent trip to London?

Okay, Love. {read that in a British accent}

London was rainy and chilly and kind of like being in Seattle’s “June-uary,” so we felt right at home. We toured Churchill’s War Rooms {a cool underground bunker beneath a building in plain sight}, and I stopped by to wave at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre {one of two things I wanted to see while in London – score!}. I drank an amazing pear cider and, surprisingly, had the best baklava of my life! Good times.

london eye, I

london eye, II

london eye, III

We spent our first night in London being certain to take the thirty-minute ride on the London Eye. It was the other thing I had wanted to be sure to do. Check! Check!

Even though it was overcast, we still got great evening views of the city. It’s positioned right across the Thames from Parliament. The little capsules you ride in are not-so-little, and they stay horizontal the whole time. Plus, it never stops moving, so you don’t get that stop-go-omg-this-is-taking-forever phenomena. The entire contraption was really fascinating to me.

view from london eye

parliament, big ben, & westminster bridge

peeking into parliament

We headed across Westminster Bridge to view Parliament and Big Ben. Everything was so much bigger than I’d imagined.

westminster abbey

We spent some time poking around Westminster Abbey, which all of our students knew as “That place where William and Kate got married!” Then we walked {and walked, and walked, and walked…until yours truly got a blister} to Buckingham Palace for a little twilight viewing without the crowds. The guard yelled at our kids to “Get off! the FENCE!” They thought this was amazing. Getting yelled at was one of their favorite parts of the trip. In fact, anything bordering on inappropriate/mischief is a teenager’s favorite thing, as I discovered on this trip.

st. paul's cathedral

On our full day in London, we stopped by St. Paul’s Cathedral, which us grown-ups know as “The place where Princess Diana got married!” or “The steps where the weird old lady sat feeding the birds in ‘Mary Poppins!'”

A boys’ choir was singing inside, which was magical.

bombed-out church, I

bombed-out church, II

I loved this garden planted in the ruins of a church that had been bombed-out during World War II. They made beauty out of something tragic.

changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace

"Top Gear"

We spent a good bit of our afternoon at Buckingham Palace {along with forty-zillion other people}, watching the changing of the guard. Lots of pomp and circumstance for something that just takes a minute! But cool.

“Top Gear” {a show which I have never heard of, but that the boys were stoked about} was filming something there; hence, all the cool cars.

padlocks of love on the millenium bridge

Walking back from The Globe Theatre that night across the Millenium Bridge {the Globe’s that white blur in the middle}, I had to explain all the padlocks to my co-worker Steve. We spent lots of time reading the backs of the locks. They were very interesting.

Lego map of London Underground

How cool is a map of the London Underground made of Legos? Pretty dang cool.

London was a whirlwind, and I am excited to go back someday and actually see a play in The Globe – hello, bucket list!

Have you been to London? What was your favorite place/experience?

monday meal madness!

Hi! How was your weekend? I have been working on some big changes that are coming to this little corner of cyber space – so excited to share the new look with you any day now!

Meanwhile, I have been enjoying a renaissance in my kitchen – mostly on the baking end of things. But here are some things we’ve had for dinner in the last week, just in case you need some inspiration.

New here? Then please click here to read about how and why we plan out our meals each week. Then you’ll really think we’re crazy at the Fresh Scratch house!

the pioneer woman's sloppy joes

{please excuse the weird, extreme-close-up focus on the sloppy joe here. my fancy new camera and i are still getting to know one another.}

Mr. Fresh Scratch loved The Pioneer Woman’s sloppy joe’s so much when I made them that he put them on the menu. I will concede to blow up his ego a little bit and say that they were better than when I made them. It’s true, plus our 10-year anniversary is next week, so it can’t hurt to pump him up a little before he goes shopping for my gift, right?

We had them on rye, which was amazing. You can find the recipe here and in The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food from My FrontierImage.

beef and bean burritoIt was an interesting week of cooking, as most of the meals I was making on my nights to cook were ones the Mr. had planned and shopped for before I returned home from Europe, hence the beef and been burritos.

I may have mentioned a time or forty that he loves burritos…

We’ve started to cook the hamburger in enchilada sauce. It adds great flavor that is different from taco seasoning {which I make from scratch – I will have to get that recipe to you soon!}.

I’ve been using these organic, whole wheat and corn tortillas from Trader Joe’s that were recommended on the 100 Days of Real Food blog. But they aren’t working for our family. They are pretty dry, as seen above, and crack easily. Too messy! Time to move on.

bologneseAbove is Mr. Fresh Scratch’s version of pasta Bolognese. He got the recipe from a little magazine of All-Recipes.com that arrived in the mail recently, and he is first to admit it should’ve cooked, like, all day. But, ladies, we are talking about a dude here. And even though I want a nice anniversary gift, I have to put it out there that the Mr. got distracted by rearranging his in-garage recording studio for the fourteenth time and kind of ran up against a time crunch. In my experience, men aren’t so great at reading the recipes well in advance to get ready for the time-management piece of cooking. And, to be fair, sometimes it’s the part I’m not so great at, either.

All that said, it was tasty – if firm – and Teensy-Weensy asked for seconds. This boarders on a new national holiday, so way to go, Mister!

Today I am starting early on my from-scratch calzones. I am so excited to share these with you. I’m getting the camera all set and getting out my ingredients for dough, ricotta, and sauce. What are you cooking this week that you’re stoked about?

insta.friday!

It’s Friday – the day of the week when I bare my soul last seven days with you, via my cell phone pics. You know what they say; the best camera around is the one you have on you.

They do say that, right?

I’m over at Instagram as MrsFreshScratch; that’s where I make these photos look extra-nifty. Speaking of Instagram, the Vanity Fair issue recently with Brad Pitt on the cover {come on! You saw it at the store. How could you have missed that?!} has a fascinating article about the creation of Instagram and how it got sold to Facebook. If you are an Instagram user, I totally recommend giving it a read by clicking here.

I’m linking up with Jeannett and about a zillion other bloggers over at Life Rearranged.

summer sunset from the carLast Sunday. Sunset. Heading back from my college friend Benny’s place in Edmonds after our families had a nice bbq together. Soaking up every drop of summer, even if it’s through the passenger side.

Harry Potter IAfter torturing my poor eight-year-old daughter by getting about four chapters away from the end of the first Harry Potter and then leaving for two weeks to Europe {and hiding the book so she couldn’t finish it without me! I am so mean!}, we finally finished it this week.

Can I just tell you that reading these books to my child was one of my great expectations of parenthood? When the first one came out, I was in my twenties, but I devoured each book. And I watched kids in my classrooms become obsessed. The one that came out around my wedding got stolen on our honeymoon {beware the Jeep Wrangler rental}, and I went into the nearest bookstore in just a bikini and a towel {that’s all I had left that night after the thievery!} to purchase one and see how it ended.

When Teensy made it clear she is a sensitive little person, I worried she’d never let me read this to her. She insisted it would be too scary. Glad I knew better! And glad she trusted me.

"Relax, Receive, Renew" signYou’ve seen this sign a time or ten if you’ve been following me for any stretch of months. It’s on the road I drive on when I head downtown, and I just get a little thrill whenever they write something new. It’s always simple, but it’s always a message I need to read. Right now, I am thinking of it in terms of my marriage, which turns ten years old in a couple weeks, but that’s a story for a couple of weeks from now.

Post-Soccer Fro-yoThe Blue Falcons continue to entertain local soccer-goers this month. Every time I watch Teensy  play, I see our differences. She is so tenacious. She can really be aggressive – and toward strangers {!!}.

But when we went out for frozen yogurt the other night, and I snapped this picture? I looked at the result and saw myself in that wacky- head-band-wearing girl for the first time. My kids don’t look too much like me, but I could see my face in hers for the first time.

After eight years, it’s about time!

Morning Snack at Phoebe's CafeShe and I have had the mornings together this week. Our routine has been to drop Teensy-Weensy off at her little theater camp, then head out for some reading time at a local cafe or coffee shop. Phoebe’s has been our favorite place. We were so comfy there the other morning that they had to ask us to please put our shoes back on and get our bare feet off the coffee table. Whoops!

I’ve scored major points for letting her get a steamer and a treat nearly every morning this week. And we’ve each gotten time to chat, read, and {for me}, catch up on some emails. Why can’t every morning be like that?

Farmers Market BerriesI love the farmers market in the summer. I love rushing to get some of these luscious, organic berries right when it opens every Thursday.

Farmers Market Stone Fruits & CherriesAnd then I love heading over to the fruit stand where the cute guy works. Olympia ladies, do you know the stand I’m talking about?

Seriously, Julia said it best in “Notting Hill”: “I’m just a girl….” So did Gwen Stefani, come to think of it.

Lemon Pudding CakesThis is kind of embarrassingly top-secret info, especially for a blogger called Mrs. Fresh Scratch who writes about cooking and baking, but I haven’t baked something other than granola or granola bars for my family since spring break.

Here’s a moment for your gasp.

I know. This kind of dry spell is absolutely unheard of at our house. Or in my life, even.

I could say I was busy with the end of the school year, with galavanting all over the globe, with being tired, but it wouldn’t be the truth. The truth is that in the last few months, I have needed the time for reflection more than I have needed to eat dessert. That is pretty huge. Do you ever get burned out? I think I was burned out. On lots of stuff. But I think I’m ready to rock now, fully recharged.

It’s good to be back in the kitchen. And these lemon pudding cakes? Divine. Like lemon meringue pie in a ramekin.

"Before Midnight" posterOh, man. I had been waiting since the end of May to see “Before Midnight,” the third installation in the saga of Jesse and Celine. Have you seen “Before Sunrise” and “Before Sunset”? If you have, then you know that I was waiting nine years to see what happened next.

Evie and I went to the Film Society yesterday afternoon, chowed on their popcorn, and devoured this movie. This one’s set in Greece. It was gorgeous. They hit what it’s like to be in a long-term partnership – with kids – right on the head. I didn’t want it to end. I will tell you more about it in a review soon.

Ethan Hawke? He is a long-standing crush. Ever since “Dead Poet’s Society.” Who’s with me?!

Spring Lavender Cocktail from Water Street CafeWe headed to the Water Street Cafe after the movie, where I imbibed this delightful “spring lavender cocktail.” I totally recommend it. It was so good to catch up with my cousin. We had lots of juicy details to talk about. It’s amazing all that’s happened since I left her in Hawaii just last month. It is such a treasure to spend time with someone who has always been in your life and is so entwined in your memories.

I hope you have someone like that!

Mrs. Fresh Scratch

brown sugar from scratch? oui.

I don’t know about you, but I am famous around my house for running out of brown sugar. As in, I have a quarter of a cup left, but I am in the middle of a recipe, so convinced I have a whole jar of it that I didn’t bother to check, and I need three-quarters of a cup. Dangit!

It’s oddly comforting, but that hasn’t happened to me in months. And it won’t happen to me ever again. I am now so hardcore old-fashioned that I – get this! – make my own brown sugar.

It started when my cousin Evie got me this very awesome cookbook for my birthday: The Homemade Pantry: 101 Foods You Can Stop Buying and Start MakingImage. The author and I are so alike it’s scary. She wants her family to eat normal, yummy stuff, but she doesn’t want all the garbage ingredients, so she has figured out how to make most of the basics from scratch. Love at first sight, folks.

This technique is based on the recipe found in the cookbook:

brown sugar ingredients

The cast of characters: a mixer {preferably with a whisk attachment, but not a requirement}, a jar of molasses, and some sugar. Yup, that’s it.

Being that it’s me, I use organic molasses and organic, fair-trade sugar. But you do whatever flips your skirt.

The plot:

I keep my brown sugar in a quart-sized Mason jar, so I pour in 3 cups of sugar to the mixing bowl, allowing room for the way the molasses will make it expand.

I let fall a generous pour of the molasses into the bowl – probably about 1/3 of a cup. Then I flip the mixer up as high as it will go without flinging sugar around like it’s a cotton candy factory. The sugar starts to turn a gorgeous caramel color. I love that I can control how light or dark the sugar is by adding more molasses or using less.

brown sugar II

This method does leave little balls of dark molasses present in the sugar. That’s normal. I think it’s intriguing and I don’t mind at all.

brown sugar III

I am absolutely sold on this method. I haven’t done the math {because I hate math}, but I would imagine this saves some moolah. It at least saves on packaging, which is important to me. The jar of molasses lasts a good, long while. I’d say you get some pretty good bang for your buck. If you are a math-head, you can get back to me on what this costs, okay?

Happy Thursday,

Mrs. Fresh Scratch

movies to snuggle up with this summer.

One of the zillions of cool things about traveling internationally is that you get lots of time to watch lots of movies on the flights. While flying – well – sucks, we can at least all agree how awesome it is that there is rarely a movie playing overhead anymore for all {including small, curious children} to see. The advent of the movie player in the back of the headrest in front of you is a game-changer.

And because I know you’ve been dying to know what I watched, here you are. All of these are available to watch at home, so make a date with your hubby or your bestie, pop some popcorn, put your kids to bed {in no particular order}, and have a date night at home, will you? Because it’s summer. And you should stay up late.

silver-linings-playbook

Silver Linings PlaybookImage“: For some reason, I want to start off saying that I am not one of those ladies who is ga-ga over Bradley Cooper. Back when he was on “Alias,” he was cute, but baby ducks are cute. And Jennifer Lawrence? I wasn’t super-impressed with her in “The Hunger Games.” So when she won the coveted Best Actress Oscar this year for her role in this film, my curiosity was piqued. And when the camera kept cutting to Mr. Cooper in the front row, crying and laughing and hanging on her every word, it was clear to me that they had experienced a huge connection while working on this film.

With Robert DeNiro.

Plus, she seems lovably dorky in real life, and I may know some people like that. Um, sign me up.

I watched this before I took my Ambien on the way to London: totally worth staying up for.

Here’s the thing: it’s gritty. It doesn’t quite seem locked to any one time period. It’s not flashy. It almost feels low-budget in the way “Good Will Hunting” did – they don’t need to hook you with anything but the awesome storyline. And hook you they do.

You’ve got Bradley Cooper’s character: he has spent eight months at a mental facility after going ape on his wife’s lover and discovering he has been living with bi-polar for his whole life. He’s released to the custody of his parents, who certainly have their own issues. He is trying hard to be a better man for his wife, with whom he really wants to get back together. He is like a walking self-help book, but also a ticking bomb at the same time.

And we’ve got Jennifer Lawrence’s character: she has recently lost her young husband in an accident. She’s been escaping by sleeping with everyone she knows. She loves ballroom dancing, but has never had a partner. She’s got a mouth on her and also suffers from mental illness.

They make a deal that forces them to spend time together, and it just breaks your heart in all the best ways. And Robert DeNiro playing his dad? So vulnerable. This film was just absolutely brilliantly cast. I loved every second of it. If you’ve been afraid that it’s too heavy and therefore haven’t watched it, it’s not what you think.

You can do it!

the-avengers-

Marvel’s The AvengersImage“: Meh. I know! I know! Everyone loved this flick last summer, and it made serious bank. Here’s why I think I diverged from popular opinion…

…I love Pepper Potts. You by now know that I love all things Gwyneth, and her nerdy – yet flirty – turn as Pepper is so incredibly entertaining. And I find Robert Downey, Jr.’s “Iron Man” to be absolutely lovable. He is funny and really an unlikely hero. And he needs Pepper to make it all work. I loved all of his scenes in this film, but there just weren’t enough. And there wasn’t enough Pepper Potts! I guess that’s why it was not called “Iron Man.” Or “Pepper Potts.” Hello – I am slow sometimes!

Will you be mad if I say I fell asleep near the end?

This is 40

“This Is 40”Image: Out of all the movies I watched on the return flight from Munich {a day of travel where I succeeded in staying awake for nearly 24 hours so as to stave off jet-lag!}, this was by far my absolute favorite. If you haven’t seen it, you must. Today. And then tomorrow. It’s that good.

It made me laugh out loud over and over {on a plane full of sleeping people}, cover my eyes, groan, gasp, cringe, get a little teary, and probably yell, “No he/she didn’t!!” more than once. The last movie that did this to me was Meryl Streep’s “It’s Complicated,” so it’s been a few years. And my poor co-worker Steve – he watched it on the plane, then he told me to watch it so we could talk about it, then I kept hitting him while I watched it or pausing my movie and his to be like, “What!!?? This is so good!” And when it was over we had a four-hour conversation inspired by the film, and he never got to finish the movie he was watching. I am sure he will be oh-so-happy to see me at the end of the summer when we are back at school.

This story – minus a few things and plus a few things – is what my life is like. Except I am not forty. Not YET. But it’s out there, man.

It touches on everything about being part of a marriage with kids and being an adult in mid-life: body-image, time alone, raising kids, having a career, wanting to be wanted, wanting to still be you, money, your parents still driving you nuts, date night – you name it. It’s all right here. No one knows what the heck they’re doing as a spouse or parent or even as a grown-up, and this movie is not afraid to show you.

I could point out the specific parts of the movie that I totally related to, but I have to keep some mystery from Mr. Fresh Scratch, who is so sweet that he reads this every day. We’ll talk later, okay?

"Jack Reacher"

“Jack Reacher”Image: Co-worker Steve had this on his iPad, and the domestic part of our journey had no free movies, so we grabbed a splitter for the head phones and watched this.

Are you a fan of Tom Cruise? I am a fan of his acting. And I think he did not smile even one time in this movie, which was too bad, because it is Tom Cruise we are talking about. But I digress.

This had brilliant cinematography and awesome chase scenes while he was driving that sweet ride in the picture above. And the plot kept turning in on itself, making me re-think everything I thought I had figured out, which I like. I enjoy a movie that keeps me on my toes.

The basic plot is that Jack Reacher is a rogue investigator who is super-smart, and he comes in to help exonerate an old Army buddy who is being charged with a killing-spree. There are meth-heads who are plotting against him, but you know it will be okay in the end, because, hey, it’s Tom Cruise. Right?

Very entertaining. Just the kind of movie that would’ve been fun to see at the drive-in.

What about you? Seen any good rentals lately? I’m always up for suggestions!
