I like how easy this pie was to make. I did add double the amount of butter in the crust (oops!) I learned of this recipe when I went to Camron Whatley’s birthday party and had Sarah Whatley send my mom the recipe. My mom sent it to me as well, and I have made it twice now. I first made it for Jeremy Kirby’s girlfriend Sarah. Each time I have it, it’s rich and creamy. This is my favorite no-bake dessert that I have ever had. The link is https://www.kevinandamanda.com/salted-caramel-dark-chocolate-pie/That is Althea Metzler’s version of today’s baking story.
I asked her today what she remembers about baking with me when she was little and if she remembers coming to work with me at Morning Brew Cafe in her birth town Kailua, Hawaii. She said that she remembers the occasional whisking responsibility and her usual hot cocoa, “blueberry rivers, and strawberry mountains” (a snack I threw together for her every time she joined me for my shift). The truth is, I have many photo’s of her over the years, happily whisking away, while seated on our counter tops, and even one picture of her strapped in her moby wrap at 3 months of age, while we baked a German Chocolate cake together. These days, she has embraced baking and cooking as skills of her own, and can even cook an egg sunny-side-up with zero assistance! (I couldn’t even handle a runny yoke until age 30). I am so proud and excited to see what she comes up with in the future as I become less and less needed. Hey, but isn’t that the point?! Thanks to technology, she doesn’t have to use her hands to set a timer, or ask me for help. “Hey Siri, set timer for 15 minutes” sent me chuckling today, as I made a mental note to try that move myself.
