Chapter 27
Panic in the City
My trip to Hong Kong from August 2-6 with my sister and cousins was full of excitement, marking our first international vacation outside the Philippines. From the start, we were on a mission to pack in as much sightseeing as possible. We rushed from one tourist spot to another, racing through the city’s most famous landmarks, determined to make the most of our time. But as much as we tried to keep up the pace, we still ended up missing a few spots on our list. In hindsight, this turned out to be a blessing in disguise since our budget was tight. Missing some places gave us a chance to take a breather, slow down, and actually enjoy the moments we had without constantly worrying about our finances.
Adding to the circus that was our trip, we encountered a few nail-biting moments that felt like they pulled us into a chaotic game show. Picture this: while navigating the bustling streets of Macau, I nearly misplaced my passport—thankfully, my cousin and my sister found it when we attempted to return to the bus stop where I left it, avoiding the stress of potentially starting a new life as a permanent citizen in Macau! Then there was my sister, who faced her own struggle when she lost her phone in Macau’s Londoners’ telephone booth—her disappointment was palpable as it put a significant damper on her attempts to capture our adventures. These little hiccups served as a bittersweet reminder that, despite our meticulous planning, things can go awry. Instead of letting the frustration consume us, we found solace in each other, allowing our shared experiences to lift our spirits as we moved forward. Looking back, it was those heartfelt moments of support and laughter over our mishaps that made the trip truly memorable. Even amidst the chaos, it was the sincere moments—where we shared our burdens and found joy in our blunders—that made the experience genuinely unforgettable.
