Gebreide popjes/ Knitted dolls

Op vakantie in Zweden ben ik lekker aan het breien geweest. De wol voor het jongetje en het meisje kocht ik op een Gotlandschapenboerderij waar we zijn geweest.

 

I've been knitting on holiday in Sweden. The wool for the boy and girl, I bought on a Gotland sheep farm that we visited.

 

De wol moest nog wel even worden gewikkeld. Maar dat was een heerlijk klusje buiten!

 

The wool had to be wrapped into a bol. That was a nice thing to do outside our holidayhouse!

 

Vest /Cardigan

Na alleen maar omslag doeken haken en breien waag ik me nu eindelijk eens aan een echt "kledingstuk", een vest! Inmiddels heb ik het achterpand af en het rechtervoorpand. Dit moet echt mijn lievelingsvest worden, ik zit maar te aaien over die prachtige zandsteek. Wat waardeer je een kledingstuk als je er zoveel tijd in steekt!! Wat triest is dat toch voor de mensen die kleding maken voor grote winkelketens....

After knitting and crocheting only shawls, I now dared to start a real "garment", a cardigan! I finished  the back and the right front peace. I'm sure it is going to be my favorite cardigan already. I'm all the time touching this knitted cloth. You really appreciate a peace of clothing when you put so much effort in it!! How sad for all those people who sew, knit for big clothing company's...

Winter?

Ach ik kan hem maar klaar hebben voor de winter, toch? Ik vond de kleuren en het eenvoudige patroon zo mooi. En het gaat als een trein, met naalden nr.8 en het kan zo lekker tussendoor. Mocht je ook zin hebben om alvast voor de winter aan de slag te gaan, ik vond de wol met het patroontje (krijg je bij de wol, 3 bollen) hier. Er zijn veel mooie kleuren!

It is handy to have it ready made for winter, isn't it? I loved the colors and the simple pattern. It goes very fast with needles nr. 8 and it is easy to do in between things. If you would like to start for winter as well, this is where I found the wool and the pattern (you get that with the wool, 3 balls). There are  many beautiful colors!

Blijven oefenen/ Keep practicing

Geen idee waarom ik juist nu deze soksloffen wilde maken. Ik begon vorige week woensdag en nu zijn ze klaar terwijl het buiten bijna 30 graden is!! Het was een hele uitdaging voor me...verschillende kleuren, breien op 4 sokkennaalden, ribbels en tricotsteek... Ze zien er niet uit maar toch zie ik zelf vooruitgang, als ik ze bijvoorbeeld vergelijk met mijn want van twee jaar geleden. Die was megastrak gebreid en ik ben dan ook nooit aan een tweede begonnen. Deze soksloffen zie ik nog wel zitten (Anne heeft ze geclaimd, lief hè?), misschien eens proberen in één kleur en alleen recht of averecht? Ik blijf oefenen!!

No idea why I wanted to make these socks at this time of year. I started last Wednesday and today I finished them, while it is nearly 30 degrees outside!! It was quite a challenge for me...different colors, knitting with 4 sock needles, garter stitch and stockinette stitch... They look awful but I do see some progress, if, for example, I think back of my mitten of two years ago. That was super tight and I never made the pair complete. These socks however, I do like (my daughter Anne claimed them, how sweet of her) and maybe I should try to make them once in one color and with one kind of stitch. I'll keep practicing!!

Breimanie/Knittingmania

Bij de kinderen op school is er een breimanie aan de gang. Er wordt volop gebreid met de allerdikste naalden, het allerdikste garen en het allersynthetiest dat er maar verkrijgbaar is. Maar goed dat mag de pret niet drukken, er wordt in ieder geval gebreid, door meisjes èn jongens. Erg leuk!!!
Dit (behalve de grootste kikker, die heb ik gemaakt) is de productie van Anne en Pijke tot nu toe. Allemaal gemaakt van rechthoekige lapjes. De kikker is een idee van Ina een klasgenoot van de cursus in Gouda. In Gouda kwamen heel veel ideeën naar boven met rechthoekige lapjes. Daar is nog wel eens een blogdingetje van te maken....elke maand een ander dingetje gemaakt van een gebreid rechthoekje?

At the school of our children, there is a knitting mania. There is a lot of knitting going on with the thickest kind of needles, the thickest kind of thread and of the most synthetical material you can think of. But that doesn't matter as long as there is knitting going on. And it is not only the girls, no the boys are also very enthusiastic. It's very nice to see!!
These (except the big frog, I made that) are the products Anne and Pijke made so far. All made of rectangular pieces. The frog is an idea of Ina, she was a fellow student at the course in Gouda. In Gouda a lot of ideas were brought up with knitted rectangulars. I could make a "bloghting" of that....every month another thing made of a knitted rectangular.

Ballenparade/Ballparade

Voor het eerst had ik ook eens wat breiwerk mee op vakantie. De dag voor dat we weg gingen ben ik nog gauw een breitas gaan kopen. Dat leek me veilig/handig in ons caravannetje, met die gemene prikkers. Eenmaal in de winkel vroeg ik mij af: "Waarom zijn breitassen zo oubollig?". Maar ja ik ging de volgende dag op vakantie dus tijd om er een zelf te maken had ik niet. Ik koos de minst erge uit en maakte die klaar voor het breien op vakantie. Maar misschien zit er dus een klein gaatje in de markt, want er zijn toch best veel hippe mensen die breien. Maar ja,  hebben die behoefte aan een breitas.....tja...

Maar goed ik ging breien op vakantie. Op de cursus in Gouda was de bal echt een werkstukje voor de eerste klas om mee te leren breien. Maar ik had nog geen bal gebreid, dus ging ik ballen breien...

For the first time I also brought some knitting on holiday. The day before we left, I bought a knitting bag, I thought that was safe/handy in our little caravan, with the sharp points. When I was in the shop I wondered: "Why are knitting bags so old fashioned?". But the next day we had to leave, so I didn't have time to make one myself. I chose the best one there was and made it ready to take on holiday. But maybe there is a gap in the market, because there are many trendy people knitting. But I do hear you think: "Do they feel the need to buy a knitting bag?"...

So I brought my knitting stuff. At the crafts course in Gouda, the ball was an example to teach knitting in the first grade. But I had never knitted a ball, so I did on holiday...

Patroon 

Toch een sneeuwman! Nevertheless a snowman!

De winter wil maar niet komen. Maar toch heb ik een sneeuwpopje gebreid. Misschien ooit, als ik het nog eens aandurf, om met de kinderen te breien... Hij is heel simpel, gewoon uit twee rechte lapjes.

Winter doesn't seem to come. Nevertheless I knitted a snowman. Maybe for later, when I dare to knit with the children...It is very simple, just made out of two squares.

Gebreide want/Knitted mitten

Het is een draak van een want, maar ik ben me daar toch effe trots!!!! 

Ik heb zitten zweten. Zo'n patroon is voor mij echt volkomen abracadabra!

Anne: "Mam, nou moet je er wel even nog een breien!"

Ik: "Ja, natuurlijk schat!"

It's a real monstrous mitten, but I'm ever so proud!!!! 

I've been sweating. Such a pattern is really abracadabra for me!

Anne: "Mum, you only have to make another one now!!!!

Me: "Off course dear!"

Proefondervindelijk breien/ Experimental knitting

Ik zeg altijd dat ik niet kan breien. Wat ik dan eigenlijk bedoel is, dat ik geen patronen kan lezen. Ik had een prachtig muizenpatroon in het Engels, te breien met hele dunne mohair met 4 naaldjes van dikte 2. Dat was toch echt iets te ambitieus van me! Dus heb ik proefondervindelijk deze muis gebreid. Het kost wat tijd (2 hoofdjes, 2 lijfjes, 3 voorpoten, 3 oren voordat je het goede model hebt), maar uiteindelijk wordt het toch een muis.
I always say that I can't knit. What I actually mean is that I can't read the patterns. I had a beautiful mousepattern in English, to be knitted with a very thin kind of mohair, with 4 needles of size 2. This was really too ambitious of me! So I knitted this mouse in an experimental way. It took some time (2 heads, 2 bodies, 3 front legs, 3 ears before you have the right model), but finally I ended up with this mouse.

Breien

Door de cursus in Gouda ben ik nog een beetje "in het breien gebleven". Dit lammetje wilde ik al lang eens breien, maar ik wist niet hoe ik voor de benen moest meerderen. Nu is het gelukt. Het is een heel bekend patroontje en komt uit: Speelgoed om zelf te maken van Freya Jaffke.

Because of the course in Gouda I've been knitting a little more. I wanted to try out this lamb for a long time, but I didn't know how to make the legs. Now I know. It's a pattern used very often. It's from a book by Freya Jaffke about making toys.

Breien/Knitting

Dit is mijn volgende breiprojectje, gewoon voor "de oefen", voor de leuk. Het is een megasupersimpel patroon: het beertje bestaat uit vijf rechthoekige lapjes. Het patroontje komt uit: Vrolijke vriendjes-Breien en haken van Rina Soffers.

This is my next knitting project, just to practice and for fun. It's a megasupereasy pattern: the bear is made of five rectangular pieces. The pattern comes from this book: Vrolijke vriendjes-Breien en haken van Rina Soffers.

Breien/Knitting

Afgelopen zaterdag ben ik weer naar de Handwerkopleiding in Gouda geweest. We moesten een breiles inleveren voor de eerste klas. Ik heb de les niet uitgevoerd, maar wel uitgeprobeerd op mijn dochter van 9. Wat is dat moeilijk, zeg! Ik heb met terugwerkende kracht veel respect voor handwerkjuffen die hele klassen tegelijk breien hebben aangeleerd! Ik heb ook wel gemerkt dat ik toch echt zelf meer en beter moet gaan breien voordat ik het aan kinderen ga aanleren. Ik brei zelf zeer krampachtig en weet me geen raad bij foutjes....oefenen dus!

Last saturday I've been to the craftcourse in Gouda again. We had to make a knittinglesson for the first grade. I didn't actually do the lesson, but I did a try out with my 9 year old daughter. I found out that this is really difficult! I have deep respect for all those teachers who taught whole classes the knitting technique! I really have to improve my own knitting, before I start teaching children. I knit very tight and I don't know how to solve little knittingproblems.....so I'll be practicing!

Dit was mijn idee voor de les: Twee sliertjes van een steek breien. De ene wordt de rups de ander het lijf van de vlinder. Dan een recht lapje breien voor de vleugels van de vlinder. En vervolgens een lapje breien met een punt eraan. Dat wordt de cocon.

This was my idea for the lesson: Knit two strings of one stitch. One will be the caterpillar, the other one will be the body of the butterfly. Then knit a straight square for the wings of the butterfly. And then knit a square with a pointy end on it, which will be the cocoon.

Een beetje winters/A little "wintery"

Mijn moeder heeft vroeger een heel setje van deze popjes gebreid. Alleen was hun hoofdje dan ook gebreid. Het leek me leuk om ook eens zo'n popje te maken met een tricot hoofdje. Toen ik het patroon zocht kwam ik bij Grietjekarwietje (Bedankt Grietje!) terecht. Het is een leuk patroontje om restjes wol op te maken.

My mother knitted a whole bunch of these kind of dolls. Only they had a knitted face. I wanted to make  one with a tricot face. When I was looking for the pattern I found it at Grietjekarwietje (Thanks Grietje!). It's a nice pattern to use leftover peaces of wool.

Nog een vestje/ Another cardigan

Ik vond dat Barbara wel gelijk had met haar reactie: "Nu meteen nog eentje, om het niet af te leren?". Dus ik ben toch maar gauw aan een volgend vestje begonnen. En het is weer gelukt!
I thought Barbara was right with her comment: "Now knit another one, so you wont forget?".
So I started another cardigan. And I did it again!

Yes! Yes! Yes!

Ik heb spierpijn in mijn alles, mijn breinaalden staan er krom van...maar hij is af!!!!

Gisteravond kreeg ik het helemaal te pakken en dan wil je hem af hebben, hè?

Ik scoor er nergens punten mee, voor velen is het niks bijzonders, maar ik ben me toch trots!!!Ik glim er helemaal van!
I've got musclepain all over the place, my knittingneedles bended...but it's finished!!!!

I wont get a medal for it, for many people it is nothing special, but I'm proud!!! I'm shining because of it!
Hieronder kan je het verschil zien tussen naald 3 en 2,5. Het bovenste vestje is van Atelier Wollepop en gebreid met naald 3 en het onderste is van mij en gebreid met 2,5 en megasuperstrak (ik brei niet een beetje krampachtig..ha, ha). Een lijs van 33 cm past  het grote vestje en een knuffelpopje van 26 cm past het kleine vestje.
Underneath you can see the difference between needle 3 and 2,5. The cardigan on top is made by Atelier Wollepop and knitted with needle 3. The one down is mine and knitted with needle 2,5 and megasupertight (I knit very cramped...ha, ha). A doll of 33 cm fits the big cardigan and a cuddle doll of 26 cm fits the small one.

Ik ben blij dat ik het niet in die hoek heb laten liggen. Er volgen er vast nog meer, maar nu even niet. Mijn nek en schouders moeten weer even normaal worden.

I'm glad I didn't leave the cardigan in the corner. I'm sure more cardigans will follow. But first my neck and shoulders have to relax a little while.

Update

Ik ga bijna geloven dat het me gaat lukken om het vestje te breien. Dit ziet er vrij serieus uit toch? Ik vraag me wel af of ik het doe zoals de bedoeling was. Ik had per mail raad gevraagd maar ik wilde verder, dus wachtte ik het antwoord niet af.....en ging verder volgens mijn eigen logica. Als dat maar goed komt?
I nearly start to believe that I really am gonna knit this cardigan. This looks pretty serious, doesn't it? I hope I'm doing it right. I asked someones advice by mail, but I wanted to go on and couldn't wait for the answer....And I carried on according to my own logic. Will it be all right?

Ik ben ook hoofdjes aan het trekken voor verschillende plannen. Ik heb voor de handigheid de omtrek op het hoofd geprikt.
I have also been making heads for different projects. I put the circumference in the heads.

Verder ben ik pas een pinboard op Pinterest gestart. Je kunt op een hele overzichtelijke manier allerlei moois ordenen en dus ook makkelijk terugvinden. Om inspiratie op te doen ga je dus even naar je eigen  verzameling moois of naar die van iemand anders, die dezelfde smaak heeft als jij. Het is alleen weer erg oppassen, voor je het weet zit je weer uren achter de comp.. Je vliegt van het ene moois naar het andere....
I just started a pinboard on Pinterest. You can organize all kinds of beautiful things very easily. And you can also find them back. If you need some inspiration you go to your own pinboard to look at all the beautiful things you collected. Or you go to a pinboard off someone else with the same taste as you. You only have to watch out that you're not in front of your computer for hours. You hop from one beautiful thing to the other...


Nog een aanrader: deze blog! Toen ik in Amstelveen werkte, heb ik een hele enthousiaste klassenmoeder Caroline gehad. Toen al maakte ze graag jaartafelfiguurtjes. Ze runde ook een tijdlang een schoolwinkeltje op de Parcival. Inmiddels is ze ook aan het bloggen en verkoopt haar handwerk. Ga eens bij haar langs!

A suggestion: this blog! When I worked in Amstelveen, I once had a very enthousiastic classmum. At that time she made a lot of naturetablefigures. She also had a little schoolshop at the Parcival. She now is also blogging and she sells her craftswork. You might like to visit her!

Frustratie alom!!/ Frustration all over the place!!

Toen ik bij Atelier Wollepop was werd ik verliefd op dit poppenvestje. "Ach, kon ik toch maar breien!"verzuchtte ik. "Nou, maar dit kan iedereen hoor!"zei Saskia (van Atelier Wollepop). Voor de zekerheid kocht ik het kant en klare vestje (dan had ik het in ieder geval maar), maar ook de wol met het patroontje. Ik ging met veel enthousiasme aan de slag. Ik begreep het patroon! Wauw, ik ging gewoon een poppenvestje breien.....
Maar wat blijkt nu.....ik kan niet tellen! Om de haverklap vertel ik me en dan klopt het patroon niet meer. Ik ben nu vier keer overnieuw begonnen. Op een gegeven moment toen ik weer een telfoutje ontdekte (ik had 154 i.pv. 155 steken) wilde ik niet weer overnieuw beginnen. Ik begon met een ander wolletje en andere naalden een nieuw vestje en ik wachtte tot mij  moeder uit Frankrijk terug was. Zij kan namelijk terug breien! Ik dacht dat ik dan Hup! zo weer verder kon. Maar nee, het aantal steken klopt nog steeds niet.....Ik heb nu de neiging alles in een hoek te gooien, maar ik wil het zo graag kunnen. Ik vind het zo'n snoepig vestje!!!!!!! Aarrrggghhh!!!! Wat een frustratie!

When I was at Atelier Wollepop, I fell in love with this dolls cardigan. "Oh, I wish I could knit" I said. "Well, anyone can make this cardigan" Saskia (from Atelier Wollepop) said. I bought the cardigan (in case the knitting wouldn't work out), but also the wool and the pattern. I started very happy. I understood the pattern! Wauw, I was going to knit a dolls cardigan.....
But what seems to be the case.....I can't count! Every now and then I count wrong and then the pattern goes wrong. I started over four times. When I made a mistake again I didn't want to start over again. I started another kind of yarn with another pair of needles and I waited for my mum to come back from France. She could knit backwards. I thought I could just knit on, after that. But the amount of stitches is still wrong.....I'm about to throw everything in some corner of the house, but I want to be able to do this so badly. I like it so much!!!!! Aaarrrghh!!!! What a frustration!
