The Long Lyme Con Continues…..

How are Lyme Disease and AIDS Alike?

Now, onto the review!

Hi, my people! Well, here we are, post-election in the states and moving quickly towards the holidays.

When I was first diagnosed with Chronic Lyme disease, now almost 4 years ago, I thought I knew what it was all about. You get bit by a tick, you might get sick, and then you are treated and cured quickly. HAHAHA!  Little did I know! So once I began researching this crazy and unpredictable disease, I began realizing that there is no CURE. That in many cases, including mine, Lyme cannot be merely treated with 14-28 days of oral antibiotics. Not even. And I began to understand, especially after being sick 6 – 12 months, that I was going to have to try out some unconventional, non-Western medicine options, to treat this bacterial infection.

I had been hearing and reading about CBD oil long before I decided to try it out. Information was mixed but the one common denominator seemed to be QUALITY of the product. Yet, I had no idea where to even begin. My first foray into the CBD sphere was, and now regrettably, a product I found and purchased from a seller on Craigslist. I know, I know. Believe me, I really was clueless, and in my Lyme social circle, no one had a recommendation for me. But I knew that I wanted to try this option. No Bueno. Honestly, I think there was turpentine in it. I tried to take it a few times, but the taste was just so disgusting, I could barely gag it down.

From that point on, I realized, and the hard way, that I needed to invest in QUALITY. I continued my research and then recently, I was offered an opportunity to try out HoneyColony’s CBD Oil. I have tried this company’s products in the past, and I have not been disappointed. I jumped at the chance to try out their CBD Oil.

Quality CBD Oil!

HoneyColony’s CBD Hemp Oil is a blend of several ingredients, including Teasel root as well Astragalus Root. You can visit this page for a much more detailed list and explanation. I have tried both of these roots before in the past with some positive effects, but not at the same time and not as a part of a CBD Oil mix. When my product arrived, I was really excited to give it a shot!

I know some people may be hesitant to try CBD Oil as there is a lot of misinformation out there, including that it makes you “high.” However, according to HoneyColony, “Cannabidiol (CBD) is extracted from the Cannabis plant and has no euphoric properties whatsoever. This formulation offers all the health benefits of CBD without the feeling of being high.” At no point of my using this product have I ever had a euphoric feeling or a feeling of being “high.”

The first stop I made before adding this product to my daily routine was at HoneyColony’s  13 Commonly Asked Questions about their Superior CBD Oil product ranging from ingredients to usage. Since this quality CBD oil is mixed with coconut oil (no weird ingredients in this product!), this oil has a very smooth taste. There is no aftertaste nor did it bother my throat or stomach. It is silky sweet and easy to administer.  I take just a drop in the morning and then one at night. While I haven’t necessarily seen a huge impact in the morning for myself (and mornings are so, so difficult for me), I have experienced an effect in the evening. While I struggle with getting up, the joint stiffness and fatigue, lately, I have really been having sleep issues. I can go to sleep, but then I tend to wake up 3-6 times a night. It’s been a serious hindrance in the past few months.

Bundles are available!

So I started taking a drop of oil about an hour before bedtime as suggested on the  13 Commonly Asked Questions page. This seems to help me relax enough to get to sleep. Recently, I have also started taking a drop when I wake up during the night. Doing this has been beneficial in helping me get back to sleep and to stay asleep throughout the night!

Look, HoneyColony products are top-quality products! Yes, the price is higher, but again, the QUALITY is worth every penny. I’ve tried enough other inferior CBD oil options to pay twice over what the cost of one of HoneyColony’s CDB bottles cost.  I’ve thrown away more that I care to share. And this bottle that I received about a month ago is still more than half full. I won’t go anywhere else in the future to purchase CBD Oil other than HoneyColony!

Happy Sunday, my friends. Take care – B

Something’s Amiss…

What’s a time you followed your gut, and it turned out to be exactly right?

I remember one specific day in November 2009. I had been dealing with fatigue unlike any other. My GP kept telling me that I had Mono….again? But never gave me any recommendations on how to deal with it. And I couldn’t find anything really about reactivated Mono or EBV on my own.

Anyway, I had taken a sick day. I felt terrible. Along with the fatigue I now had nausea, headache, body aches. The flu was going around, but deep down, I knew these symptoms were not that.

My mom always advised that if you’re feeling unwell, go sit outside in the sun for a bit. Sitting out on the steps in the sun that day, I realized that I needed to find out what was going on with my body.

And thus began the almost 4 year journey, and not a fun one, to the diagnosis of Lyme disease (CDC positive BTW) in 2013. Finally, I could start treatment!

I’m grateful for the few doctors who have believed me and helped me, my family, friends, and coworkers who have supported me no matter what, and for following my intuition – my gut – when it comes to my body.

Take care, friends – b

The Great Ball Heist

Image

Every family has THAT sibling.

In our house, it’s Peanut.

Meatloaf is obsessed with balls. Not just any ball…all the balls. He has quite the collection, knows exactly where every single one is, and there is almost always one in his mouth. If one disappears under the couch, he’ll remember it’s there for days.

Then there’s Peanut.

Peanut couldn’t care less about balls.

Well…unless Meatloaf has one.

It doesn’t matter if there are six other balls lying around the house. Peanut wants the one currently occupying Meatloaf’s mouth. He’ll casually stroll over, grab it, and walk away like he just won the lottery.

The funny part?

He doesn’t even want the ball.

He just wants to see Meatloaf’s reaction.

And poor Meatloaf falls for it every single time. He stands there looking completely offended, as if this has never happened before. Then he wanders off to find another ball…which Peanut notices immediately.

And just like that, Round Two begins.

This photo captures one of those moments perfectly. Peanut is already plotting his next move, and Meatloaf is trying his best to hang on to what is rightfully his.

Some things never change…and honestly, I hope they never do. These two dingdongs make me laugh so much!

This is my summer so far LOL! How’s your summer going? 🤣

Why am I Awake?

Image

It’s 1:33 a.m. My eyelids just went doink! and snapped open. Why? IDK….torture?

School has been out for over a week now. I spent almost all of the first week cramming in appointments and the AC seasonal checkup. My husband, also a teacher, spent that week sick. Yep. He was sick most of wi ter break as well. At least this round wasn’t as bad.

My sleep has been wonky for awhile. I’d finally stopped taking sleep meds about a year ago, using them only under real duress. Which, starting about April I don’t know what day, duress was definitely present, so back to the sleep sauce. I stopped again right after working graduation.

I’m not awake because I’m not using the sleep sauce. Maybe it’s hormones? My doctor seems to think so. I saw her Thursday and tomorrow, I’m picking up some meds that might help. I hope so.

Sleeping has always been easy for me in the past. And, I like it! But, since being chronically ill, sleep, good restful sleep, has been tough to manage.

My husband asks what wakes me up or keeps me up, and many times, it’s really nothing. I’m just awake in the darkest of the night.

Right now, with J out of town visiting my in-laws, the Pibbles, Meatloaf and Peanut, get into bed with me and snuggle up. That’s a lot of pup to share the ac with! They each weigh about 65 pounds, and they are bed hogs! Well, it’s mostly Peanut smooshing me over to my foot of space I’m allowed. So, maybe big doggies are not helping my sleep hygiene LOL

Oh well. Time to try to go back to sleep. I’ll be up extra early, so very soon, to put our bin out for trash pickup. The service comes by about 6 a.m. Putting the bin out the night before has worked; however, last week, the bin was turned over and our trash was everywhere when we got out on Thursday morning. What a mess! When we’re working, it’s easy to get the trash out since we’re up and leaving by 6 a.m. Summer will call for new strategies like setting an alarm for 5 a.m.! UGH! WHY?!?!

Anyhoo, good night to you all. I hope your sleep is solid, and you’re having sweet dreams…take care! -belle

What makes a teacher great?

Image

“What the teacher is, is more important than what he teaches.”
— Karl Menninger

As I get ready to begin my 25th year of teaching this August, I find myself reflecting more than ever on this question. Over the years, I’ve met so many teachers — some inspiring, some steady and dependable, some who left the profession early, and some who became lifelong mentors to me and to countless students. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that greatness in teaching isn’t about perfection. It isn’t about having the most polished lesson plans or the most decorated classroom walls.

A great teacher is someone who shows up, day after day, with an open heart. Someone who understands that each student carries an entire world inside them — a world of hopes, fears, dreams, and struggles. A great teacher doesn’t just teach a subject; they teach human beings.

Great teachers know when to push and when to pause. They recognize the power of small gestures: a kind word in the hallway, a handwritten note on a returned essay, a quick check-in when a student seems off. They understand that sometimes the most meaningful lessons happen in moments that aren’t in the curriculum at all.

After two and a half decades, I’ve also realized that great teachers never stop learning themselves. We evolve alongside our students. We adapt, reflect, and grow, because we know we’re never truly “finished.” The willingness to learn, to say “I don’t know,” and to try again — that humility — is at the heart of great teaching.

Finally, great teachers love. They love their students enough to hold them to high standards, to believe in them when they don’t believe in themselves yet, and to forgive them when they fall short. They love the process, even on days when it feels thankless and heavy.

One more time for the people in the back:  They love the process, even on days when it feels thankless and heavy!

As I step into this milestone year, I carry with me all the faces, stories, and quiet victories that have shaped my journey. Teaching has never been just a job to me — it has been a calling, a relationship, and a constant reminder of what it means to be human. That, I think, is what makes a great teacher truly great.

I hope everyone’s summer is going well! Until next time – b
