I did enjoy reading this book. I've also enjoyed doing some of the exercises as well. Even when I am unable to do a particular exercise that day I go back to it. The journal keeps me thinking creativity weather or not I'm actually able to do an activity. I think I enjoy the book because of that very fact. It keeps art mindful. I haven't read all of the suggested activities but of those I did I find them to be fun, exciting, interesting and challenging. There are ones I'm not in the least bit interested in doing...don't like using food, unless I can eat it immediately after, and then I don't like playing with my food. 365: A Daily Journal I feel was/is well worth the price and the read.I'm glad I own it and can't wait to get back to the exercises.

Great book. It really is changing my life. I'm on day 19. This is an art book for inspiration without all the rules about composition, color, and perspective. Everyday he gives a small hint about materials to use to create "something." My theme for the year is Birds. I've made a osprey kite, collage, mask, a lemon bird, robot bird, Christmas ornament, etc. All without worrying about how they turn out, because I know I'll try again tomorrow. The book is the kick in the pants I needed to be less critical of my work and actually finish my projects. I'm just using up the supplies I already have at home so there is very little extra expense. Now.....I want to learn more about composition, color, and perspective. If you want to be an artist, make something everyday. This book has turned on my creativity gene. Today I'm going to make a bird that floats on water. I love the brain energy that happens between finding out the assignment and producing a finished piece of art.

Pretty cool book. Lots of activities and things to do for sure. The activities are quite diverse and imaginative. This book would work for any age group from children to elderly. Great price for the amount of activities it gives you. Also like the size of the book and space to write about each project. The cover and little details in the book are also a very nice touch. Unfortunately I got this for a recovery where I was stuck in bed and a lot of the activities require you to go find materials or do things. Otherwise everything has been fun so far.

I was hooked on this author's concept right away! The journal inspires you to take a few minutes each day to make something, document the results, and then share the results with others for an entire year. The prompts listed in this journal encourage a few minutes of creativity every day. Many prompts are open-ended and seem written for teens and older, but could easily be adapted for all ages. The author's original concept was to follow a theme for the entire year; he made a skeleton a day, and documented his results daily. His concept grew into this journal filled with prompts on different topics, art forms, and media that encourage the creative spirit. I'm inspired to use this book and its concept in my middle school art classroom.

...this may be what you're looking for. The book is about a challenge that will inspire you to create a work of art every day for a year. We're not talking about museum-quality art here, but just SOMETHING in your field of interest. What it does is train you to work EVERY DAY. One artist carved stamps and made monoprints every day for a year. Don't think this is easy, though. It's not. This would make a great challenge for a group of people to try. Sometimes there are failures before the artist finally completes the 365 day challenge but what a feeling of success it is to finally say you're made it! (One artist did it for a Leap Year thereby producing 366 works of art.)

Last December I purchased this book and ended up turning its ideas into a group project with friends. So far it has been an amazing experience. There are around 20 people involved, and everyone brings their disparate talents together to create some awesome pieces as well as add more skills to their repertoire.

Despite being more of a writer than a visual artist, partaking in the prompts suggested has expanded and increased my ability to create.

There are a good handful of prompts for every discipline and even some cross category and collaborative suggestions.

By providing a new project everyday, it forces you to actually do something. Being artistically creative or working on art projects is something that is usually reserved for downtime or completely given up to make time for what we "should" be doing. With this, art gets inked into my to-do list every day. By making it a group event, I make myself accountable.

If you are an artist of any kind, I would highly recommend this book.

I have been waiting for this book to come out for awhile and it was well worth the wait. I'm a creative type and this book is very inspiring. If you need inspiration, and even if you don't, this makes a wonderful addition to anyone's library. There are great ideas sprinkled throughout the book and the journal section leaves plenty of room to write ideas and thoughts down. I'm so glad I got this book and I highly recommend it. I normally don't reviews books I buy but this one definitely deserves a review. Buy it and you won't regret it.

THE CONS

-The ideas are not inspirational at all

For example, Day 1 in the journal asks you to "make something that fits in the palm of your hand using only materials in your immediate environment". Day 2, "What is your favorite animal? Use it as your inspiration today". Day 118, "Create something out of wood". If you aren't into wood, you wont have the materials or motivation for this.

I find those ideas very dull and boring.

These "ideas" are not really motivating if you are really stuck and need inspiration to do art. If you are lost and need inspiration, this book won't do it for you.

-You can't just sit and draw stuff.

If you think this is just paper and pencil activities, you're wrong, he asks you to find objects around the house, which i hate doing. And other materials.

-He assumes you have every medium lying around in your house

-He assumes you like every art medium

CONCLUSION

There are way better art journals out there that actually boost your mind and mental creativity. This journal is too basic and not inspirational.

Don't waste your time on this one. Go find a wonderful journal that makes you excited!

This is a journal with 365 prompts for making things, with place to jot down sketches and ideas. It is not a book woth projects or pictures of other artists' work. The concept is that you choose a theme or a medium, and make 365 variations over that theme. That is a lot of ideas to come up with, and this book is a help in the process.

As such, it is a good book. The prompts are not always practical or even fun, but that forces me to think differently and that is kind of the point. I use the prompts i don't like or find stupid, as an challenge to "trick the system" by being creative and find a solution I enjoy instead. (I use it for inspiration for my jewellery-making.)

There is a handful techniques explained in the back, but that is just an excuse for saying it in the book description, nothing interesting or useful. There are also some interviews scattered around, they doesen't really add much either. This is a book you buy for getting a list of ideas, it doesen't offer much else.

The book has good quality binding and paper. Good size for carrying around. Nice to write ideas in and for small sketches.
