EDF, EDF!!! 4.1 is the best EDF game yet.
Reviewed in the United States on October 14, 2016EDF 4.1 is great, IF... you know what your getting before you buy it. This is NOT a high budget triple A title. These games are meant to be sort of silly. If you are a fan of the old campy horror movies, like "Teenagers from Outer Space" or Godzilla titles. Then you may enjoy EDF. But you also don't have to enjoy those types of movies either. Just let me explain....
EDF 4.1 is a mission based game, you do 1 mention at a time. Choose between 1 of 5 difficulties, and 1 of 4 characters (soldier, mechanical winged woman, Heavy Armored Tank-ish guy, and another soldier type that calls in air attacks and tanks instead of using the weapons the standard soldier uses.) The story is about "Aliens" sort of teaming up or working together with giant insects, to take over or destroy the Earth. Of course!
There are 70 or so missions. Each in varying locations, such as giant cities, beaches, underground tunnels, empty desert lands, allover the place. During missions you have a giant open world map to run around blowing up everything while trying to destory the aliens and insects. You will work with CPU controlled military, that you can somewhat control, by pointing them towards a target you want them to focus on. As you kill enemies you will receive health, weapons, or armor. To level your character as you play the game.
The gameplay and graphics are not amazing. They aren't bad either, but the story and commentary from fellow soldiers is hilarious and unlike any thing else. It is a 3rd person action shooter, with tons of absurd weapons, lots of laser guns and RPG type of weapons.
1 of the best features is multiplayer, you can play split screen with a friend, or online with 3 friends. As you play through the story to build up your arsenal of weapons and armor.
It isn't a bad game, but just make sure you understand what you are buying, before you purchase it. Good luck soldier!

EDF 4.1
Reviewed in the United States on August 17, 2016Wow. Guns, grenades, missiles, rockets, Huge explosions, robots and lots and lots of bugs.
This game rocks. It supports 4 MP and 2 Co-op. I played Solo.
There are many missions, and you can go back and do any mission you want to. It is also possible to select any difficulty setting for any mission.
Graphics are great and sound is also. The English voice actors were good I thought.
As you play through the missions, the war rages and you get updates on other parts of the battle.
Having the right weapon set is important. I played a Ranger all the way through, and always carried a rifle. Other weapons I liked were rockets and sniper guns. I tried the shotguns, grenade launchers, special weapons and missiles. There are tons of weapons to find in the game.
Defeated enemies drop armor for health upgrades, weapon boxes that have new weapons in them and health boxes (2 sizes). I discovered that health boxes can heal your team even if your soldier is fully healed.
When you fight a battle, there are usually other EDF personnel that will support you. Some of the battles were huge! Tanks and artillery guns support.
Most of the flying enemies are easy to hit. And the bugs are fun to fight. There are many missions until the end.
EDF 4.1 is a really good game.

HOURS of fun here vs polished bordom (I am looking at you Star Wars Battlefront)
Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2016Great graphics (not the best ever), great controls, story/missions progress nicely and most of all... fun, fun, fun!
Hard to put down. In fact my PS4 died last month, lost my saves, but this is the one game I did not mind starting again from the beginning.
It is one of those games that, if I have a spare 20 minutes, I can get through a mission. I would rather play a really fun game like this than a game that has amazing visuals but not much enjoyment or a super complex plot. Does not require a big block of free time that you need to commit to in order to move forward in the game. Has various classes you can choose, lots of weapons and varying backdrops for each mission. Giant ants, spiders, mother-ships, attack drones, robots, a cybernetic godzilla-like creature and a corny sci-fi movie theme. Has some glitches but so much fun I do not care about them. HOPEFULLY they will make a sequel. Only played single-player, mission mode...love it!

EDF! EDF! EDF!
Reviewed in the United States on December 11, 2015I absolutely love this game. I played EDF Insect Armageddon on the Xbox 360 ages ago, but the constant dip in framerate was just too much for me to handle. This new version plays almost buttery smooth, and there is SO much going on in the map it is crazy. There are four different classes in the game, all of which play differently from each other. This game has so much replayability it is crazy. There is weapon drops and armor upgrade pickups in every level, and the ability to play split screen coop is just an amazing bonus. Please support this game and buy it!
Some people are saying it is a brainless shooter which is kind of true, but it is so much more than that. When you are getting pulled in by a spider and desperately are trying to shoot it off of its web before you get pulled in and die, it doesn't feel brainless at all.
Thanks for reading!

A worthwhile upgrade over PS3/360 versions, still not quite perfect.
Reviewed in the United States on October 8, 2016EDF is a game that is difficult to get tired of.
It's just non-stop madness that can force you to really think on your feet and challenge yourself if you wish.
The additions and changes from EDF 2025 are very welcome, using AI partners can be very viable to help out when playing solo or split screen. They aren't too terribly dumb either! On some missions and on higher difficulties, the AI can be strong enough to beat the Ravagers all on their own almost in some missions!
The framerate, while a big improvement is still highly disappointing. Probably because of the CPU is my guess. The PS3/360 game ran at 30FPS at best, but spent most of it's time in the 20s range and often lower in the teens when things got really hectic. Especially in split screen.
Most of the time EDF4.1 on PS4, runs between 30-50FPS or so. 60FPS is rare, so there is constant screen tearing. In some instances, it drops down to 30 or below for extended periods. Mostly when there are lots of explosions and buildings coming down.
(FWIW, a first generation i7 950 @4Ghz with a GTX 980 even slows down when too many buildings are coming down.)
The visuals are nicely upgraded, the textures look very nice. But there is no Anti Aliasing. And EDF has a LOT of aliasing. It doesn't make the game less fun. Just less visually well rounded. It certainly wins a lot of points for one thing.
SCALE: I dont' think any other game has such well designed scale to the environments. You can be on the ground and everything is huge. On top of a building and everything looks correctly proprotioned and small. Go between a 50m tall robot and being on the ground in the same mission and see how incredible the sense of scale is. If there is any game, i'd want to play in VR in 3rd person. It's EDF, it would look incredible!
If you really want a mostly solid 60FPS. Get the PC version. It runs extremely well though not without some of it's own problems. But it's mostly good. And has free region free online play.
The game mission design and game flow around it really need some work and often hold it back from being the best it could be. Hopefully EDF5 solves that.

PS4's Community Features are Helpful
Reviewed in the United States on January 22, 2016EDF 4.1 is a fun game. The levels that I have played differ enough from EDF 2025 that I don't mind having essentially bought the same game twice. The graphics have been improved, resulting in less jagged edges, the lighting effects have been overhauled in this updated version and gunfire can light up dark areas, and the frame rate stays at playable levels.
As in the last gen release of the game, the controls are re-bindable via an in-game menu. The class are still the same (gun nut Ranger, vehicular bug slaying Air Raider, flight capable Wing Diver, and tank with legs Fencer); however, the Wing Diver can recover from knock back and falls by activating her flight jet. All classes still have a plethora and a half of guns, whether they are legitimate or quirky.
A slight side note, I played Insect Armageddon with a friend and he says that this game is too "Japanese" for him. The overall appearance of the game and the aesthetic of the menus are his only "complaints".
Overall, this is exactly what I expected from a next gen EDF game.

EDF! EDF!
Reviewed in the United States on September 1, 2016This game is fantastically cheesy. The premise is, initially, that Giant Insects have re-emerged from the ground after 7 years, and so now your job is to shoot them.
This game is great fun, and can be played split screen co-op with a friend, or up to 4 players online.
The gameplay pits you and your friends up against massive armies of enemies, gives you (in most cases) infinite ammo, and sets you loosee. It seems mindless, yes, but as the difficulty increases you will have to plan which weapons you take into battle in order to defeat the enemies.
I'm a bit biased since Earth Defense Force 2017 for the 360 was one of my favorite games, but I think this is just about as perfect as an EDF game can get.
In short, if you like killing giant insects, and if you like explosions, then this is the game for you.

This game is fun and addictive
Reviewed in the United States on January 23, 2017This game is fun and addictive. Its one of those games you can just enjoy without having to be too serious. There are some underground cave levels that kinda suck because they are dark and not well lit, but if you hate them, u can put the game on easy to advance the story. Its not even much of a story, but killing giant bugs and getting to choose from a bunch of different weapons to suit your play style is great. They got sniper rifles, rocket launchers, homing missiles, lightning weapons, shotguns, and just about anything u can think of. I have only played two classes so far, but they add to the replay value since the strategies and weapons you use are different.. Anyway.. good game.

Snakehead_905 out of 5 starsEinfach super

Reviewed in Japan on December 12, 2015Amazon.comでInternational shippingが可能だったので検討していたのですが、

Reviewed in Canada on June 8, 2020It’s an awesome game. Some weapons for work though, like the torch.maybe I need to download a patch? Easy to control, just put on easy mode. Lots of characters and weapons. The enemies seem easy so far. But there’s no weird jumping skills like titanfall2 or anything frustrating. Easy to play.
