I got this to replace a generic oil pump compressor that finally crapped out -- I got the steel tank version and it's perfectly fine from a weight standpoint, and is almost the same physical size as my previous 6gal compressor.

I've read different reviews were the reviewers were not that impressed by the noise level, but for me it was very noticeably more quiet. I do a lot of finishing work (built in cabinets, moldings, etc.) in my home and I had to run my previous compressor from the garage because my wife complained about the noise. Plus it was too noisy to even run in the garage late in the evening. This new California Air Tools compressor is quiet enough that I can run it anytime/anywhere without bothering anyone!

Looks to be well made and was shipped double-boxed so it got to me without any shipping damage. Easy to get setup (just install air filter and wheels), and worked like a champ right out of the box.

Size is 8gal, so it's too small for most air power tools like grinders and sanders, but does run my impact wrench ok. Also handles all my nailers and staplers without issue, and inflates car tires (of course).

Can probably be used for small paint jobs like a fender or general touch-up, but if you want to paint cars or run demanding air tools, you should get a larger compressor.

Overall, I'm very happy with this compressor and would buy it again.

I replaced my pancake compressor that was so loud I jumped every time it auto started. This one is for indoor use, works great, and is WAY quieter. It is top heavy so take precautions so it doesn't flip over in transport.

This was a replacement for an older compressor that was so noisy that OSHA required hearing protection inside. It was the sole reason for getting rid of it. This new unit was selected because of its claim to be unusually quiet, necessary for our indoor shop. How quiet is it? We had to stop talking to see if it was on. I kept the tank max compressed over night and unplugged. Didn’t leak an inch. Plenty of capacity to run pneumatic nailers, die grinder, and sprayer. I recommend it.

This is my second one. My first one finally gave out after owning it for around 9 years with moderate use. Extremely quiet for an air compressor. Quality braided and copper lines. I definitely got my use out of it. Money very well spent. I’m a fan of their products.

I was shocked by how quiet this unit is compared to the 28 year old one it replaced. You could hear that one from inside the house.
