Perfect for your hiking bag
I recently went on a camping trip and while setting up camp I tried to remember some knots and I couldn’t, I didn’t have service to look them up either. I ordered this thinking it would be a good quick reference for some important knots, I was right! This has some of the knots I was trying to remember and then some, all of which are SUPER useful! The guide is easy to follow with only a few short steps. Some reviews said the guide had incomplete steps for some of the knots, I did them all with no issue. I also read some sour reviews about the sample cordage that’s supplied being super stiff and people said to throw it out and use a shoelace -_- then they ran the product through the dirt because of it. The cordage works well for beginners or anyone learning a new knot. With it being stiff it allows better control of the knot while learning. As you can see in the pictures the guide was easy to follow and the cordage worked fine. When you learn on tight cordage you won’t have any issue with regular paracord. This is exactly what I needed this recent camping trip. I’m pumped to have it for the next. If you want a simple, clean, durable, and compact quick reference knot guide. This is it.

Not a complete study program, but a fantastic resource for practice

The cards are fully attached, so you twist them on the axis of the hole to read them. Smart in that it keeps them together. The cards can sometimes run right to the edge of the text, but not overlap. There is a mnemonic on one knot, so I thought they would all have that, but no, just the bowline. This is a good overview of how to tie the knot, and the diagrams are perfectly clear. Occasionally there is some information on when to use a specific knot -- timber hitch is described as "use for securing a rope around a post or any cylindrical object, sometimes not so much -- half hitch only says "unsafe when used alone, the half hitch is used in combination with many important knots". Which? For what? It then goes on to say "Use two half hitches to tie a rope to any object". Would that be safe? It doesn't specify. And what about it isn't safe? Some are contradictory. The square not says it is "not to be trusted to join two ropes together" and demonstrates it by joining two ropes together. It also describes it as "a good knot for securing non-critical items". Why do we need another knot for that? Can't the knot the is used to secure critical items do double duty?

I count exactly 20 knots covered, not the promised 23:

    Bowline

    Tautline Hitch

    Stopper Knot (aka Ashley's stopper)

    Square Knot

    Water Knot

    Timer Hitch

    Buntline Hitch

    Rolling Hitch

    Clove Hitch

    Constrictor Knot

    Half Hitch

    Sheet Bend

    Prusik Knot

    Double Fisherman's

    Cleat Hitch

    Trucker's Hitch

    Figure Eight

    Mooring Hitch

    Butterfly Knot

    Bowline on a Blight

There is a note on double sheet bend under sheet bend, but I can't count that as a separate knot. The same with slipped sheet bend. Further, I think pushing all three into one explanation made none of them make sense. Two half hitches is listed as a separate knot from half hitch even though it's just do the same knot twice. No, that's not two different knots. Might as well say do it three times and call it a triple half hitch.

Slippery half-hitch, which is a listed knot on the back of the package, is completely missing with no note about this under half hitch.

The carabiners are odd. I was planning to just clip everything onto one, clip that onto my ridiculously overloaded purse/keychain combo (seriously, there's a Rubik's cube on there, this should fit) and have it at hand to practice on the go. I'm a big fan of making practical use of empty time. It looks perfect for that.

It didn't exactly work as expected. The small blue one fits into the hole in the cards, but it's too small for both ropes wrapped as they came. If I pull them loose and just tie them so a single loop sits on the carabiner, letting them hang down longer, then it works. I just hope the cats don't go for it like that. The other carabiner, and the cards to all sit on it. The red one is large enough to hold it all, but too large to fit the hole in the cards. To me, this is a poor design choice. Slightly larger holes in the cards would have seemed more sensible.

The ropes are perfect to learn on. They're thin, which makes them easy to carry around for practice. They're short enough to be convenient, maybe 3-4 foot, but long enough to work with. They have that burned end thing going on (I was scared I'd have to do that myself).

Overall I'll say this is good for an auxiliary resource and a brilliant study tool, but is insufficient in itself to learn these knots and their purposes. For quick reference and for convenient practice on the go it would be difficult to find anything better.

Minimal knot instructions on the small cards

More fun in idle time than scrolling short videos. The "ropes" are sturdy as you try to do all the twists and turns of a knot but as a complete beginner, I wish the ropes were a little thicker---like thick pencils for first-graders. The length is adequate but I wouldn't reject longer ones if available. The instruction cards are plastic and all attached so no problem with losing one. However, I found the instructions to be minimal and somewhat lacking in detail---searching YouTube for visual instructions were more helpful but maybe that's just me.

The waterproof plastic cards are of good quality as well as the small cordage. I like that all cards are fastened under one brass eyelet, this prevents lousing a card. The larger carabiner is handy with tying some of the knots and the small carabiner fits into the cards brass eyelet. This kit can then be attached to or in a backpack or taken about anywhere with you. This is a good kit for practicing knots at a reasonable price. I am pleased with my order as well as the seller.

This is a pretty cool product from, I would say the age of 7 and up. I don't have kids, so please forgive me. But some of these knots are a bit complex even for someone that uses a couple of them on a almost daily basis to lift things onto roofs. I do hvac commercial industrial work, but there's so many cool things you can do with this kit.I also bought the book they recommended. And that's priceless, especially if you're camping, if your outdoors type of person in general rope pericord, and how to tie knots?I say would be a household.Item every house in the united states should have just in case if you know what?Hits the fan, you know how to tie knots to toe cars or to build shelter, or what have you there's a knot for everything well worth the money?I think it was around thirty five dollars for both prime membership wise

I picked this up as an afterthought gift, a fun way to build skills and learn that there’s more to knots than the granny square and the double knot (which describes my admittedly limited capabilities). However, the card illustrations are too small and too unclear to be helpful or instructional. This could be VERY easily corrected, however. The card illustrations currently show both ropes in a bland light blue color, yet the kit itself comes with a red and a blue rope. Change the pictures to show the different colors! Doing this would make it much more clear when learning step-by-step knots; it would take this product from a generous 3-star to a well-earned 5-star instantly. Hope it gets implemented at some point, and if it does, I’ll buy again and update my review to 5-stars.

Between Boy Scouts and rappelling I learned several knots but that was years ago. I wanted to learn them again so looked around for a good kit. This looked like the best for learning . After using it for a while I really like it. The practice ropes are stiff enough to hold their shape but loose enough to tie easily. Note, I also have a short length of regular rope that I use alongside this kit. The booklet has has most of the knots I previously knew and it shows how to tie them is nice clear steps. The thing I like most is that the kit is small so I can take it with me to practice when I have some down time. Waiting rooms etc.

Great little kit. As others have said, the ropes are on the small side but they’re plenty long enough to learn the majority of the knots included on the cards. Plus, you can always use your newfound knowledge of the sheet or fisherman’s bend to link them together! I honestly can’t stop playing with them. Who’d have thought tying knots could be so enjoyable.

This kit is just OK. The ropes given are too thin and too small in length.... not worth the money and its more hyped up product that so many millions are sold and blah blah...
