The bond between girl and wolf is more than affection; it is spiritual, primal, and defining.
As Almora comes of age, she meets Tanu, a young Homo neanderthalensis survivor, orphaned from his own kind. Her friendship with Tanu slowly deepens into something neither tribe nor tradition can easily accept. Through their relationship, the Drognai must confront not just fear of the 'other', but their own fragility in a world where extinction and endurance are daily truths.
Amid hunts, hardship, births, and deaths, Almora finds her strength not in dominance, but in empathy—in her connection to the wolf, to Tanu, and to the land itself. Her journey, shaped by loss and renewal, charts the evolution of one girl into a leader, a mother, and a symbol of change.
The story ends with the birth of Almora’s child and the death of both Shuma her mother and Sharma the wolf with an optimistic note added by Tanu sharing his people’s view of the oneness of nature and how the dead live on in their descendants.
The Girl and the Wolf blends archaeological realism with intimate storytelling. I have had an interest in nature since childhood and am a passionate advocate of the scientific method and healthy scepticism. I don't believe man has dominion over the earth. We have the great good fortune to experience life once and once only and share this beautiful little space-ship Earth with all the other creatures which have evolved on it with us and to whom we are related.

We are made of the same stuff the Universe is made of and are part of it. The most remarkable thing about us is that through us, though maybe not just through us and probably not just on this planet, the Universe has gained self-awareness and can stand on the surface of this little jewel in the Cosmos and gaze in wonder at itself.
