“The myth of the machine even guides the futurists in their theoretical reflections on a new way of loving, in which sex becomes a healing mechanism that releases energy without being bound to sentimentalities or prejudices.”

- Claudia Salaris, Die Futuristen und die Religion der Maschine, p. 299 (in: Lazardzig, Jan; Schramm, Helmar and Schwarte, Ludger (Eds.): Spuren der Avantgarde. Theatrum Machinarum. Frühe Neuzeit und Moderne im Kulturvergleich (De Gruyter, Berlin 2008); translated by LF)

Continuing my I-can-fucking-do-whatever-the-fuck-I-want-era in which I don’t have to filter out non-artschool-compatible artworks or only pursue those which I calculate to result in the best possible grade, and am no longer part of any art world or art scene whatsoever, and only required to interact with the mundane stupidity of the Jobcenter once in a while, I present to you: intellectual gayaroace smut.

Very Realistic Simulation of the Mechanics of Consensual Homosexual Activity (SEX MACHINE) is an abstracted, associative artwork about sex, very strongly inspired by Lonely Christopher’s short story collection The Mechanics of Homosexual Intercourse (Akashic Books, New York (NY) 2011). This is a very educational piece of software to be used in biology classes in schools all over the world and so on.

Unironically, this piece of software is probably kind of inspired by my own aroace-spec alienation regarding these thingsTM, and thus I wanted to invoke this same alienation and at the same time fascination with alien mechanics in the viewers too. You “play” this using your mouse+mousewheel (similar but different to my snow globe game or my Little Virtual-Digital Mechanical Theatre Automaton), and if you don’t really know what to do and are confused, I did a good job. For easier use, I’ve provided a kind of instructive handbook listing the intended order of interaction (I made it slightly “open world” so that one doesn’t need to interact in a specific linear order with most things, otherwise it might have been too tedious and too much like a conventional puzzle game or sth, when in fact it is more like a sound toy – I’ve also provided the option to fiddle around with the volume settings while masturbating engaging with the artwork).

I’ve worked on this game yet again longer than I’ve planned, from July 21st 2025 to August 10th/11th 2025, I will talk about this stuff explicitly later in my game about burnout. The idea for this artwork is from January 14th 2024, which means that it was initially queued for a later year, but due to it being a fitting independent companion piece to my recently published German poetry book HOMO SEXUELLE FORTPFLANZUNG (one may buy it) (I will not write literary books in English, the language of the capitalist-imperialist status quo), I prioritized it in the schedule. I initially envisioned it as an actual machineTM with like valves & pipes & stuff (sth that I could actually 3D-model myself, I guess), but in a more direct relationship towards my poetry+artbook it heavily transformed into sth way more weird, messy & alien, which is actually perfect. Is it still a machine? I don’t think it really is an automaton by definition either (→ see my MFA thesis), but more a scrappy bundle of sex... Definitely means that it is approaching a high status of art, when I myself cannot grasp what I even created here, when it escapes the status of categorization/marketability. I also do not have an explicit “message” to convey, which is great. Thinking about it, this makes me super super happy happy because I really do not want to be conceptualized as a person doing explicit political art or anything, it would also break my obsessive-compulsive art creation rules and so on, this is thus one of my better artworks in my Œuvre and gets the LUKA FRIEDLAND SEAL OF APPROVAL. This “sex machine” is utterly alien & I really do not know how it would even work, it is thus perfectly capturing my relationship towards anything sexual – not even disgust, not all the time at least, but complete genuine alienation. Maybe other a_sexuals can relate to that idk. I think what loosely connects queer people are dimensions of sexuality, romance, political oppression and modes of subcultural aesthetic expression. Aroace people are oftentimes just left out of the conversation due to our (not necessarily lack of, but at least quite different) relationship towards sexuality and romance.

As mentioned above, its main concept of mechanizing sex is very much an association derived from Lonely Christpher’s book, and my artwork is using imagery and some quotes and “game mechanics” from it. Despite the great & evocative title, Lonely Christopher’s actual writing isn’t that good in my view, but there are some good sentences to be found burried in these texts – and those make their reappearance in my sex toy. The moving of furniture such as the couch and the piano in the short story that is similar to the book’s title, the (in my case mechanical) horse standing in the kitchen from the short story Milk, or the unusual names of the characters such as Cowboy, Computer, Dumb, Orange or Burning Church were appreciated by me while reading. Dumb’s bf (named Right) has suicided himself, or maybe not, or maybe he is just a hallucination, idk. The vibe is definitely fitting, reminds me of my earlier gay prose and books from around 2017/2018.

Very Realistic Simulation of the Mechanics of Consensual Homosexual Activity (SEX MACHINE) makes use of the German “queer anthem” The Lavender Song (Das lila Lied) from 1920, shoutout to an online article I’ve read published by Siegessäule.

A few days after my little text on the NSFW deindexing, I’ve decided to keep the NSFW tags – for now. It would be foolish to trust any entity entagled within monetary interest, even as rainbow-colored and pinkwashed as this very platform here, but itch.io has announced the reindexing of NSFW content, which I of course appreciate and which makes me more positive of this artwork (and some of my spicier and gayer future artworks) not getting removed.

Initially I planned to create a web build, but it just got wayyy too big to compress without major losses – I personally appreciate downloadable things more anyways, because it gives me the feeling of actually owning stuff haha. But also, since I usually don’t delete things that are stored & sorted on my big external hard drive collection, it gives me a sense of safety and archival preservation to download things instead of just having them as a web build. (Judging by the statistics, most itch.io users would disagree.)

Also shoutout to a tutorial on rotating stuff using the mouse, as well as a tutorial on creating outlines for interactable objects – I figured that having no indication of interactivity whatsoever could be too frustrating in this pile of stuff, despite it being more realistic to really not know what to do/click.

Now please cum quickly, I need to upload this sex toy and then go to my stupid little appointment at the Jobcenter.
