Description:
Multiple personalities - plurality - open discussion.
Welcome to Multiplicity.

This community is open to all who are interested in multiplicity, or the concept of more than one mind within a body. We accept members who subscribe to various models of multiplicity, whether they are considered 'traditional' or not.

You are not required to make an introductory post if you do not want to, unless you are a mental-health student or professional. Unlike some other communities related to multiplicity, this community does not concentrate on the Sybil-like, trauma-split/ dissociation model of MPD or DID. The community founder Imageasrai_d wished to create a forum that decoupled these issues from the concept of more than one mind sharing a body. Nevertheless, those who do experience MPD or DID are as welcome to post here as those who do not.

This is not a support group: it is an open discussion forum with many different viewpoints being aired. If you need a support community, try Imagein_silent_decay, or Image_survivors_. Also, read this if you are posting about things that may be potentially dangerous to you, other persons in your system, or outside people.

Discussions and questions of all kinds are welcome. You need not apologize for asking questions in this community.

We suggest that newcomers read the memory archives; your questions may be answered there. Click here for the memory archive. Also, browse the calendar for archived entries: click here for the calendar.

Who can post here?
Anyone and everyone. Group members who originate in fictional sources (fictives, soulbonds, fictionkin and others) and in historical sources, walk-ins, spirits, people other than the 'birth person' (main, host, or core) and non-humans, including animals. Lilspeak is allowed but not required. Please do not try to police other people's language. If you don't understand what someone said, please ask them to clarify.

Posts and comments are also welcome from singlets who may be curious, studying about multiplicity in school, in a relationship with a multiple, or for any other reason. As long as you are prepared to contribute to the discussion intelligently and politely, then there are no restrictions on who is allowed to post or comment.

What are the rules?
Please keep the general topic of conversation on multiplicity. Off topic posts are allowed, including announcements of new communities; keep them brief. In a large community dedicated to multiplicity, one that often discusses multiplicity in relation to everyday life, what looks off topic to one person or group might be relevant to someone& else.

Please respect others, even if their experiences seem odd to you. You will see many different views here, and you will meet those who do not share your views. Multiplicity is a subjective experience, one reason it is so controversial.

Advertising and selling is allowed on this community, particularly home businesses run by multiples, or multiple-related items. Keep advertisements brief and to the point and be sure to lj-cut (see below) if you have pictures of your merchandise.

Spam Policy: There is an acknowledged problem with spam on Livejournal, especially in comments. If a post or comment in this community looks weird to you, assume it is not actual spam until proved otherwise, or unless it is something like "nice post, visit www.drillbits.com".

If a post uses abbreviations or words that make it look weird or like spam, please ask the person posting to clarify it. Also you can notify any of the mods if something looks like spam to you.

No-censorship policy
As has been said previously, this is not a support group, and it is not necessary to use spoiler warnings, 'splats' or trigger warnings. Even though we do promote open discussion and debate, flaming, trolling and personal attacks are not allowed. To see examples of inappropriate comments, go here.

Can I ask for lj-cuts on uncut material that happens to trigger me -- even if no one else states they're affected? There is no rule against such a request. You and the original poster can work this out.

However, obvious troublemakers, flamers and trolls will be banned. Although constructive criticism of what others say is welcome, comments which appear solely to insult the other party (including "snark" or "sniping") will get you warned, suspended, and possibly banned.

Photographs, art and embedded videos are fine. Please put them behind an lj-cut for space considerations (see below).

Deletion policy: If you have made a post which has received comments, and later wish to delete it for any reason, please contact the admins via email. It is preferable that you edit your post rather than deleting it. You may ask the community to please end the discussion, or ask the admins to freeze the comments.

LJ-cut policy: Posts longer than fifteen lines and posts containing graphics, art, or photos should be lj-cut. If you do not know how to do this, go here: http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=75. There is no need to lj-cut a post simply because it mentions unpleasant or 'triggering' issues. If you don't know how to make an LJ cut and can't understand the LJ help screen (LJ's explanations are a bit murky at times), copy and paste from the text area below.

If you want to describe what your post is about, use this code:

Behaviour that can lead to a warning or ban:
* Insulting comments and posts ('you asshole', 'you always cause trouble in the community')
* Threats
* Identifiable passive-aggressive attacks
* Snark that appears to have a specific target.

* Three warnings on insulting or offensive posts and comments. After the third warning, a five-day suspension will be placed on the person/system in question.
* The second time someone commits a bannable offence, the suspension will be increased to two weeks. The third suspension will be for a month.
* Permanent bans will be issued if the people in question refuse to modify their behaviour even after three suspensions.

IRC Chat: There is no IRC chat for this community. A number of members run their own channels.

IRC #plurality Web Access at http://cgiirc.synirc.net/ and enter #plurality or #pluralityadults in the "Channel" slot. (This is just a suggestion, the community doesn't own or operate these channels). Open discussion of multiplicity, not abuse-survivorship oriented. You can also connect to #plurality with an IRC program such as Image or Image.

If you have trouble finding words to describe your experiences, there is a glossary of suggested terms from a variety of sources. These words are not required or "correct" but are presented to give people a descriptive vocabulary in common. It is not necessary either to memorize the terms or to use them at all. Please use your own words if you have them; they might be added to the glossary too.

You will find that many people on this community self-identify as multiple without having a psychiatric diagnosis. They may speak of being "healthy multiples," or of being multiple without having MPD or DID. If you've never heard of this, you might want to learn more at one of these websites:

Again, this community is not solely for the non-disordered, functional, healthy-multiplicity model, it is for everybody. The above links are provided for people who aren't familiar with the ideas presented, not because people who don't fit that description aren't welcome.
