Tri-Champs in Field Hockey; OWU Enters Tourney as Top Seed

CLEVELAND, OH – Denison, DePauw and Ohio Wesleyan each earned a share of the 2025 North Coast Athletic Conference field hockey title after posting identical 8-1 NCAC records, marking the first time since 2019, and the fourth time overall, that the NCAC has had tri-champions in the sport.

Denison leads all field hockey squads with 14 titles overall. Ohio Wesleyan follows with 12 league crowns, while Wittenberg has 10, Wooster has eight, DePauw and Kenyon have six and Oberlin has two all-time championship titles.

OWU has been tabbed the top seed in the 2025 NCAC Field Hockey Tournament through predetermined tiebreaking procedures, while Denison is second and DePauw is third. Wittenberg earned the fourth and final seed after posting a 6-3 NCAC record.

The top-seeded Battling Bishops will host the fourth-seeded Wittenberg Tigers in the semifinals on Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 3:00 p.m. Ohio Wesleyan collected a 1-0 overtime road victory over Wittenberg during the regular season. In the other semifinal game on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m., the second-seeded Big Red will host the third-seeded DePauw Tigers. Denison collected a 3-0 road win over DePauw in conference action.

The championship match is set for Saturday, Nov. 8, at the site of the highest remaining seed to emerge from the semifinal round at a time to be determined.

TOURNEY NOTES: The tournament winner receives the NCAC's automatic bid into the NCAA tournament … Ohio Wesleyan, the defending NCAC tourney champion, will make its sixth-consecutive and ninth overall appearance in the conference postseason. The Battling Bishops captured the 2024 NCAC tournament title as the top seed after collecting a 4-0 win over fourth-seeded DePauw in the semifinals and then defeating the second-seeded Big Red 1-0 … Denison is making its 16th-straight appearance, 20th overall, and will look to increase its lead over the league by earning a sixth tournament title … DePauw enters the NCAC postseason for the 12th time and is in search of its fourth tourney crown … Wittenberg makes its 17th overall appearance and will look for its fourth tourney title in program history, and first since collecting three-straight titles from 2002-04 … Overall, Kenyon follows Denison’s lead with four tournament titles, while DePauw, Ohio Wesleyan, Wittenberg and Wooster all own three all-time tourney titles apiece and Oberlin has collected one NCAC tourney title.
