THREAD: Strands of Salvation in the Synoptics Joseph isn’t the only beloved son to be given a multi-coloured coat. Jesus is given one too, though by the hands of ungodly men. In Matthew it’s scarlet (kokkinos); in Mark it’s purple (porphyra); …

While people provide their guests with water and hospitality in the Bible, no one is ever said to wash anyone else’s feet; people are left to wash their own feet (Gen. 18.4, 19.2, 24.32, 43.24, Exod. 30.19, 21, 40.31, Judg. 19.21, Sng. 5.3)… …until we get to Jesus (John 13).

THREAD: Judas appears to die in quite different ways in the texts of Matt. 27 and Acts 1. That fact raises a number of important questions. The most obvious is how the two accounts are supposed to be reconciled. But an equally important question to consider is *why*...

THREAD: Once More into the Details of Judas’s Death. SUB-TITLE: An embarrassment to inerrantists or an embarrassment of riches? SPOILER: I’m of the latter view. I do, however, think Judas’s death presents inerrantists with a challenge, just not the normal one.

When Egypt had run out of bread, Pharaoh told the people to go to see Joseph, who’d just turned thirty, and to do whatever he said (ὃ ἐὰν εἴπῃ ὑμῖν, ποιήσατε!). Sadly, his brothers didn’t recognise him. Some time later, when a certain wedding had run out of wine,…

For me, a big problem with hypotheses like these is that you can spin them any way you want. For instance, suppose we want to have Aaron as the initial exodus-instigator and Moses as the added character. Well, we simply highlight a different set of ‘weird’ details and ask

THREAD: Ezekiel’s temple, John 19-21, and lots of numbers (153 included). SPOILER: Not for the faint-hearted. Over 100 posts to come. WHY? A general lack of material on two-cubit-jambs, five-cubit-vestibules, and their relevance to Peter’s haul of fish. #JambsMatter

🧵 THREAD: Into the Christmas Narratives Again… TITLE: The Shepherds, the Manger, the River Chebar, and the Siege of Jerusalem As the time for nativity sermons draws near, may I suggest a reconsideration of the sometimes overlooked connections between Luke and Ezekiel 1–11?

NOTE: In Revelation 4, John is taken into heaven’s throne-room. The appearance of the one seated there is compared to ‘jasper’ and ‘carnelain’ (σαρδιον), and around the throne is an ‘emerald’ rainbow. Why these gemstones in particular?

THREAD: The Genius of Matthew’s Genealogy. The more I study Matthew’s genealogy, the more impressed I am by its content and construction. What follows can probably best be described as καινὰ καὶ παλαιά = ‘things new and old’. Hopefully it’ll be of use to someone.

<THREAD> Matthew and Luke’s genealogies are often dismissed as irreconcilable. Elsewhere, I’ve tried to show that they’re not. Here, I’ll simply highlight some of their numerical and thematic harmonies, which, I claim, have significant implications.
