Sleight of Knees

Sleight of Knees

When the circus clown was lauded,
marveled at, praised and applauded
for hanging from the high trapeze
for 24 hours by his knees,
though he was admired for his moxie,
it turns out it was just epoxy!

For Blast from the Past, here is a silly poem from july 15, 2017. I shared a house with Louie for two weeks at Cannon Beach, Oregon. in 2001 and still have her wonderful doll. It made the culling before my move to Mexico. Louis, if you see this, drop me a line…

“Eavesdropping”

I woke up this morning to this email from my neighbor David Bershad, whose second-story terrace gives a good view of my roofline. Seems Yolanda kept the gate open enabling the doggies to enjoy the sunset  from the roof!  The terrace of the upstairs casita furnishes easy access to the rest of the roof. The song lyrics and first three photos are his. Below them are my photos of the explanation of the sculpture on the dome that Coco, Zoe and Morrie love to visit. Only Morrie knew the “real” Frida.

ImageBelow are my photos of Frida and her sidekick Diego, now both sadly departed, along with the story of how Frida came to be memorialized on the dome of my house.

If you can’t see the commentary of what is going on in these photls, you need to click on the photos to see it.

And, if you want to read a poem I wrote about the lovely Frida, Here it is:

“Translation Difficulties” for Word of the Day

Sign Language

I know our birth tongues aren’t the same,
but still I think words aren’t to blame.
It is your means of understanding
that convinces me you’re underhanding.
For every time I give you kisses,
it seems you go to other misses
in search of the translation tips
they give by laying on of lips.
My dear, if we were dumb and blind
then translation service of this kind
might make some sense, but I must say
your excuses will not work  today.
Please have your translator of prose
stick this finger message up your nose!!!

The Word of the Day is “Translate..”

Throwback Edition: Seeing the World in Black and White–– Photos from July 14, 2017

I actually stopped the woman pictured in the first picture and asked if I could photograph her hair.

“Advice for Errant Males,” Reblog for Classic Material

The Eighth Deadly Sin (Advice for Errant Males)

The Eighth Deadly Sin:
(Advice for Errant Males)

Wrath and avarice and pride
can be safely kept inside.
So although we all may be them,
it is often hard to see them.

If you are a seasoned actor,
sloth will never be a factor
leading to your firing
or premature retiring.

Often envy, I confess,
is one more way that I transgress;
but even though we’re caught inside it,
almost all of us can hide it.

Lust is the sin that’s most unfurled
upon us in this modern world
in every book and magazine.
In movies? It’s in every scene.

And though sex is oft debated,
we only label them X-rated;
and though we profess to abhor them,
in solitude, we may adore them.

Gluttony’s the only sin
we cannot seem to keep within;
for everything that meets our lips,
alas, is carried on our hips!

Each is labeled “deadly sin”—
the one outside, others within;
but I’m inclined to add another
perhaps not taught you by your mother.

These deadly sins from one to seven
may be what keep you out of heaven,
but it’s transgression number eight
that will ban you as my date!

You may talk as you pour wine,
and continue as we dine;
but when I start to tell a tale,
heaven help the errant male

who utters “Me, too . . . ” then proceeds
to list more of his facts and deeds.
As music fades and lights all dim,
bringing the subject back to him!

I know that sinning is the fate
of many couples on a date.
So lust may now and then corrupt me,
but no one gets to interrupt me!!!!

For the “Classic Material” prompt, we were asked to reblog material posted on this date..July 12, in another year. This was posted in 2019. I was actually a reblog from 2019, but I am telling the tale again in hopes those it describes might recognize themselves and repent before it is too late.

“Whirlwind” For The Sunday Whirl Wordle, 765

Image

Whirlwind

The voicemails that the wind exhales could terrify a ghost.
Wailed as stories in the storm, they are the Devil’s post.
Scared mortals wander unaware, their journeys to begin,
Caught in the glow of lightning, they struggle and they spin.
Tossed helpless in the tempest, they must wonder why,
like the fragile lotus, flung high  up in the sky,
the breath of air that gave them life is now how they will die.

been din grin kin men pin sin tin then vin win

For The Sunday Whirl Wordle 765, the prompt words are: voicemails high exhale wind begin unaware scared glows ghost storm story lotus

‘Insomnia” for RDP

Image

Insomnia

I’m lying awake when I should be snoring,
but falling asleep is simply too boring.
Lying here quiet with nothing to do
with nothing to listen to, nothing to view
just makes me restless, unable to snooze.
I need some amusement, a snifter of booze—
something to make me forget to recall
that falling asleep’s not the end of it all.
I cannot help but resent this time wasted
when things could be written or looked at or tasted
instead of just lying inert in my bed
with my eyes shut but images filling my head
that tend to confuse and to fill and encumber
this time that good sense says should be spent in slumber.

The prompt for RDP is “Insomnia.”
