Tuesday Tidbits #381 A Slice of July

Image

This week was a lovely mix of family, nature, and a whole lot of fun!

Looking back at photos is how I start my blog post. It was just one of those good summer weeks. And those are the ones I never want to take for granted.

Hello and Welcome!

🥳 Happy Birthday! 🥳

Our sweet grandson celebrated his second birthday! Watching him laugh, play, and watch everyone come see him was pure joy. Family gathered, memories were made, and my heart felt a little fuller than when the week arrived. It was fantastic! He is getting bigger, and he is talking more. Oh, and he loves to give head hugs. What’s that you may ask? He will look at me while his eyes focus on mine then he leans forward and taps his head against mine. Oh yes… it doesn’t get much better than that!

“Being your grandparents is one of life’s sweetest gifts. Happy 2nd Birthday to our little joy.”

Two is such a fun age. Full of wonder, giggles, and a little bit of mischief!

Eagle

One evening when we were boating on the lake an unexpected visitor landed in the tree in front of us. There sat a majestic bald eagle. He seemed perfectly content to pose while we drifted directly beneath him. Every now and then nature gives us a gift, and this was certainly one of them. One of my favorite photographs of the summer.

While sitting in the boat, I enjoyed seeing my favorite tree (the one far to the right) from this viewpoint.

Some people have a favorite chair, I have a favorite tree!

This is the perspective I usually share from the shore.

We made sure to stay out on the lake a little longer, as I wanted to see the sun set.

Back At Home

Back at home, the gardens are putting on their annual show. Every morning seems to reveal another bloom, another splash of color, another reminder that beauty often grows quietly while we’re busy living a beautiful life.

Garlic

My brother planted garlic in our gardens years ago. The garlic comes up every year and reseeds—a continuous cycle.

I picked quite a few and placed in a jar with olive oil. The oil will be infused with garlic and will be tasty when added to my cooking or salad making.

I “Love” the mason jar!

A New Lamp

Sweet Man surprised me with a new lamp that I absolutely love. It’s funny how one simple addition can make a room feel even more like home. It created an ambiance that I love in the early morning or evening.

Do you spy the new lamp? The printer’s tray was my Dad’s. He was a hobby printer. He filled the tray spaces with pictures, miniature objects, and type that he used when printing. We enjoy seeing it every day.

Cocktails

Evenings can be wonderfully simple. I enjoyed an Old Fashioned one night and, a few days later, a lemonade with a splash of vodka with peppermint leaves from the garden. We don’t have to go places. Sometimes being at home is all we need.

Something We Have Noticed

The corn is definitely past being knee high by 4th of July. I can’t wait for Sweet Corn!

And the hay was being cut almost everywhere this past week.

Image
I took this from the car as we drove down the highway. This was a very long field of hay! I did not straighten the picture as I would of shortened the field.

Our only crop is basil and it is doing very well! We used to have a garden, but we live very close to a farm stand, so we get all our fresh produce from there.

We enjoy basil, tomato and mozzarella salads!

Our Week in Review

I enjoy looking back each week. It was just one of those good summer weeks—family, flowers, time on the lake, a birthday celebration and an Eagle sighting! Our Slice of July is getting bigger and better!

Thank You

Well… that’s enough rambling from my corner of the lake for one week!
Thanks for pulling up a chair and following along with my little adventures, random thoughts, and family stories. It still amazes me that so many of you choose to spend a few minutes with me each week.
Your comments, kind words, and encouragement mean more than you know.
Until next Tuesday, keep noticing the little things and count your blessings.
