Rambling Photo Dump

17 Jul

I can’t believe another week has passed.

This is usually that time of summer when I start thinking about going back to work.

But this year I’m just wondering what the future will hold.

And I spend all of my time on campaign stuff right now.

I don’t have leftovers for today because I barely have time to get chores done, especially with all the heat we’ve had this week.

I’m afraid I won’t be able to keep up with everyday posting.

But you know I’ll always post when anything exciting happens.

Or if I just get a minute to enjoy home and patio and critters.

I did take time tonight to go out right before dark and take a bunch of pictures.  They just aren’t leftovers.

But I should have enough for a couple more posts!

Sky’s Announcement

16 Jul

Sky here.  The human has nearly abandoned us.  She’s off to county fairs and knocking on doors and doing podcasts and we’re all stuck here in the heat.

The only decent thing I can say about her is that she’s letting me stay inside during the really hot days.  She even remembers to make sure I get bathroom breaks.  Otherwise, we all say this campaigning (and the heat) is for the birds.

In Training

15 Jul

You might remember that I decided to buy a bike in April.  There was a reason more than just thinking I should ride a bike in my old age for my health.  Not that I need more of a reason than that, and it has been good for me.

But I’ve been in training.  Have you ever heard of RAGBRAI?  It is the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa.  They do it every July and g0 from the Missouri River to the Mississippi River.  It draws tens of thousands of people to the event and it’s a giant event. Well, this year, when I decided to run for a state house seat, they made the course go right through my district.

The route going through my district.

So I’ve been training to ride that little portion of the event.  This morning, I went on my longest training ride so far by taking the Heart of Iowa Nature Trail from Collins to Cambridge.

It is a beautiful paved trail.

lovely scenery

I might have to go back and walk parts just to take pictures of the wildlife because it’s hard to ride and take a picture.

These signs worry me.

hard to bike and shoot

And I went 25.5 miles.

The last three miles were hard, but they were all uphill. I think I might actually survive the little chunk of RAGBRAI I want to do next Wednesday!

Hopefully.  It should be “no prob-llama”, right?
