The holiday calendar, featuring a varied programme of events organised by numerous clubs and organisations in Chemnitz, is now available free of charge in printed form from locations including town halls and citizen service centres, the Tietz and the Tourist Information Centre.

“My Tree for Chemnitz”: Call for tree donations

Mayor Thomas Kütter and Mayor Ralph Burghart have planted a special tree on Johannisstraße (in front of the eins building). The ‘Royal Red’ Norway maple was planted and cared for there with the support of a tree donation. In doing so, they are promoting the “My Tree for Chemnitz” fundraising campaign.

Playground in Zeisigwald to be refurbished

The Forststraße playground in Zeisigwald is being refurbished and refitted. By the end of the year, the new facilities will include a climbable volcano, new swings, climbing frames and balancing equipment, a cable car, and new seating areas for families.

Staying healthy during hot weather

Older people, babies and young children, pregnant women and people with chronic illnesses are particularly at risk from the heat. The Chemnitz City Health and Prevention Office and the Environment Office have some tips for hot days.

Chemnitz is commemorating its honorary citizen Prof. Dr Carl Horst Hahn, one of the most important entrepreneurs in German automotive history, with numerous events on the occasion of his 100th birthday on 1 July.

Primary school enrolment now available online

For the first time, primary school enrolment will also be available online from 1 August. Parents of children starting school in the 2027/2028 academic year can enrol their child online or continue to attend the in-person enrolment sessions at Chemnitz’s primary schools.

Chemnitz had a population of 250,497 at the middle of the year

At the middle of 2026, 250,497 people had their main residence in Chemnitz. The population has therefore fallen slightly compared with the previous year. Although the city once again recorded more people moving in than moving out, this was not enough to offset the low birth rate.

All-clear in Ebersdorf

Ban on alcohol consumption at Thomas-Mann-Platz

A ban on alcohol consumption has been in force at Thomas-Mann-Platz since 10 July. From 9 am to 9 pm, Monday to Saturday, alcoholic drinks may not be consumed or brought into the designated area for consumption. The aim is to better protect children and young people from alcohol-related risks in public spaces.

Zentrumsring: New construction phases begin

In the coming days, new sections of the Zentrumsring construction project for the Chemnitz Model (Phase 4: Chemnitz–Limbach-Oberfrohna railway line) will commence: Following extensive preparatory work for the construction of the new bridge and the track triangle, the first phase of bridge construction will begin at Falkeplatz. Meanwhile, on Mühlenstraße, between Brückenstraße and the Stadtbad, work will be completed and the construction site will move on to Theaterstraße Nord, between Brückenstraße and Hartmannstraße.
