Kitchen appliance shopping can be daunting. These machines are not cheap and you're going to use them every day, so picking the right ones is essential. Whether you're building a kitchen totally from scratch or just replacing that clunky old garage freezer, it can be hard to know which brands are actually worth the investment and which options are right for you. Factors like as smart features, power, energy-efficiency, size, and overall cost play a role in determining how worthwhile an appliance is, and each brand has its strengths and weaknesses. As for cost, large kitchen appliances can range from $300 for a decent range hood to nearly $10,000 for a professional-level six-burner gas range. We combed through all of our favorite large appliances to compile the best brands in every category.

Best Overall Kitchen Appliance Brand

GE

GE

Pros
  • GE makes our favorite appliances across multiple categories, and we love the often-included special features that set it apart.

Cons
  • We wish some of its appliances were easier to use, more customizable, and less expensive.

A GE appliance holds a top spot (sometimes two) in nine of our of our kitchen appliance roundups, and it's the single number-one choice in five of those. No other brand comes close to this many wins, making GE the obvious choice as our best overall kitchen appliance brand. The brand has a varied lineup that includes our favorite induction cooktop, wine fridge, and portable dishwasher, among others. Many brands excel in just one or two categories, but GE makes quality appliances for your whole kitchen.

We also crowned GE the best overall choice for induction, dual-fuel, and electric ranges. We really appreciate the brand's convenient and actually useful extra features, such as air fry mode, automated time and temperature controls, and Wi-Fi capabilities. If you need lots of space for frequent entertaining or a large family. GE's double-oven ranges are also favorites.

Overall, our complaints about GE appliances are few and mostly minor. A lack of fully adjustable shelves and racks was an issue we had with some fridges, freezers, and dishwashers. Another problem is price; GE is one of the more expensive appliance brands, albeit deservedly so.

Our Favorite GE Appliances

Pros
  • Samsung has the best smart features and offers higher-than-average customization.

Cons
  • Many models are very pricey.

When it comes to smart features, Samsung is the brand we like most. Samsung ranges earned the best smart accolade in our best electric range and best dual-fuel range round-ups. On our induction cooktop list, we praised the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities as well as the intuitive interface of Samsung's Smart Induction Cooktop.

Aside from its smart features, the brand also stands out for its customizability. Several of our favorite Samsung ranges offer options to customize cook settings and even things like integrated probes for cooking meat to your exact specifications. Of our favorite freezers, Samsung holds the best convertible spot for a deep freeze that can seamlessly switch over to fridge mode for party-overflow dishes. For a totally customized kitchen, check out Samsung Bespoke, which helps you create appliances that match your aesthetic and functional dreams.

The trade-off is that these smart features and customization options come at a high price. Samsung doesn't have many pared-down models — the starting price for ranges is about $900, which is higher than most other brands on this list. If you're not someone who will get daily use out of the smart features, the higher cost may not feel worth it.

Best Kitchen Appliance Brand for Ranges and Stoves

Bosch Home

Bosch Home

Pros
  • Bosch makes consistently excellent ranges with smart and user-friendly design features.

Cons
  • Even its small and basic models are expensive.

The range is arguably the most important appliance in your kitchen; you can't cook without it. For something you'll use every day, it's important to pick the right brand that meets all your needs. We love Bosch's ranges; they made our lists of the best electric and dual-fuel ranges. Both have user-friendly design features that set them apart from similar ranges, such as an extended lip to close the gap between the stove and countertop, and quiet-closing oven doors. The gas burners on the Bosch dual-fuel range that we love are also more efficient and use less gas than many others. But that doesn't reduce their power; both the duel-fuel and electric ranges have strong burners and shortened preheating times. Additionally, our favorite dishwasher is also a Bosch model, and we loved how easy it was to install, as well as the options for rack placements. It was surprisingly quiet, to boot.

Bosch is often the most expensive brand on our lists, even compared to competitors with more size and features. However, many Bosch fridges and dishwashers are Energy Star–certified and may save a few extra bucks to help offset the cost over time.

Best Appliance Brand for Refrigerators and Freezers

Frigidaire

Pros
  • Frigidaire makes a large size range of products that are often a great value.

Cons
  • The lower-priced models are also more basic and offer fewer features.

When you think of Frigidaire, you probably think of fridges and freezers, and for good reason. This brand consistently tops our lists of all things cold. Frigidaire manufactures high-quality refrigerators and freezers in a full range of sizes. One of our favorite mini-fridges comes from the brand, and we loved the stylish design and portability. For upright freezers, a Frigidaire earned our best value spot because its slim size makes it easy to slot into any corner of a garage, basement, or kitchen. It's about the size of most chest freezers but with a much smaller footprint — and at a price that's considerably less than other upright freezers. If you're looking for something larger, our favorite large-capacity chest freezer is also a Frigidaire. It has a whopping 14.8 cubic feet of storage space and even comes with optional wheels to make maneuvering this extra-large freezer easier.

Beyond fridges and freezers, we like Frigidaire for dishwashers and ranges, too. It snagged the best value spot in our dishwasher roundup because its surprisingly spacious and full-featured model comes in under $500. Frigidaire also makes a stunning professional-style electric range that we absolutely love. Its extra features are unmatched, and the zoned cooking replicates the ranges found in professional kitchens.

Frigidaire is often on the less-expensive end of the price range for kitchen appliances, which is great for the wallet, but that often means its appliances lack extras and smart options. If you don't mind a more basic appliance, Frigidaire is a great choice, but you get what you pay for — Frigidaire can't compete with luxury brands on the high end of the market.

Best Value Kitchen Appliance Brand

Whirlpool

Whirlpool

Pros
  • Many Whirlpool appliances are on the low end of the price range and are generally very user-friendly.

Cons
  • The brand's cheaper models lack features, and its full-featured options aren't cheap.

Whirlpool is a brand that has appeared in several of our roundups of large appliances, often in the best value slot. Even picks that win in another category, like the Whirlpool freezer that earned the best large-capacity superlative, are consistently priced lower than many of the other appliances on the list.

Whirlpool makes two appearances in our library of best ranges, for the best value in both electric and gas ranges. In both roundups, the Whirlpool models are praised for their ease of use. Since they are lower-priced, they lack some of the extra features that others on the list have. However, the trade-off is that since they're more basic, there are no fussy or convoluted settings to learn — just straightforward controls on a range that works well. If you don't want to pay extra for settings and features you'll never use, a Whirlpool range is an excellent bang for your buck.

Whirlpool is primarily known for its dishwashers. In our roundup of portable dishwashers, the Whirlpool model we loved the most wasn't a budget pick; it had a built-in butcher block top. While Whirlpool does make more basic portable dishwashers, that one stands out for its luxurious materials, clean aesthetics, and multifunctionality, proving that Whirlpool can do more than just the basics. However, Whirlpool's higher-end appliances are much more expensive than its basic models — still a good value, but not cheap.

Best High-End Kitchen Appliance Brand

Sub-Zero, Wolf, and Cove

Wolf 48 Inch Gas Range 8 Burners

Pros
  • These premium appliances are a favorite among top chefs and interior designers.

Cons
  • You can't order online, and you may not have a showroom or retailer near you.

The Sub-Zero, Wolf, and Cove family has a reputation the world over for high-end kitchen appliances, combining reliable engineering, quality materials, the newest features, and sleek designs, with high prices to match. Investing in these appliances can easily eat the budget of a kitchen renovation, but those looking for luxury at any cost will see why professionals consistently recommend these three brands.

If you've ever seen a range or oven with statement-making red knobs, it's likely a Wolf. Built-in ovens, range tops, and range hoods are Wolf's forte, built for quick, even cooking and unbeatable heat control. Dual-fuel ranges and gas ranges come in different configurations, with options to add an infrared griddle, infrared charbroiler, or French top. Induction ranges come with your choice of four or five burners. Wolf also brings the presets we're accustomed to with toaster ovens and other small appliances to its built-in ovens: Gourmet Mode lets you choose from 50 foods and sets the cooking time and temperature accordingly.

For Sub-Zero, the refrigerator division, premium features includes settings for humidity control (to preserve freshness), air purification, LED lighting, and easy-to-adjust shelves. The Designer Series offers fully integrated refrigerators, wine fridges, and freezers, meaning the products can be installed behind a panel for a seamless look and even more of an upgrade. Cove dishwashers also come panel-ready, though its stainless steel exteriors won't detract from most kitchens. The smallest brand in the family, Cove spared its dishwashers no effort, with LED lighting, reconfigurable racks, and a dozen wash cycles.

Factors to Consider

Kitchen Appliance Brand Cost

Cost is likely at the top of your list of deciding factors when it comes to picking appliance brands. Most kitchens will likely have a mix of brands; some are better for fridges and freezers, while others excel at dishwashers or ranges. And within brands, you'll find a range of prices. However, if you're looking to narrow down the pool based on cost, some brands are known for more luxurious appliances, while others are more budget-friendly. Just know that some more basic brands may lack the extra features you may be looking for. If you're willing to forgo an air fry setting on your oven or don't need a convertible fridge/freezer, a less-expensive brand will likely be sufficient.

Kitchen Appliance Brand Smart Features

Some brands are known for cutting-edge tech and smart features, while others are more basic. Consider how important smart features are to you with each appliance. Do you want to control your oven from a phone app in the other room? How about having your stovetop remember your cooking preferences? Some smart features significantly reduce active time when cooking or cleaning and may be worth the added cost, while others may not be as handy to some cooks. Think about what your biggest frustrations are with your current appliances — if a brand offers smart features on an appliance that solves those problems, it's probably worth the buy.

Kitchen Appliance Brand Energy-Efficiency

Kitchen appliances can account for a significant portion of your monthly energy bill, so more energy-efficient models have become increasingly popular over the past several years. It used to be that increased energy efficiency was a luxury, but it has become much more common as a standard for many brands.

Energy Star is a government program run through the Environmental Protection Agency that creates efficiency standards. An appliance with the Energy Star logo has been independently certified to meet the criteria, and it may be eligible for state and local tax credits. Energy Star certification doesn't necessarily mean an appliance is good for the environment, but it's at least better than others in the same category.

Additionally, more energy-efficient appliances can save you money over time. A dishwasher that uses less water, a stove that uses less gas, or a freezer that uses less electricity will drive your monthly bills down.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Where should you buy kitchen appliances?

Luckily, we live in an age where you can order almost anything online and have it delivered right to your doorstep. Appliances are no exception. It's usually smart to compare costs and delivery options from all the most popular big-box retailers: Home Depot, Lowe's, Best Buy, Costco, Walmart, and, of course, Amazon.

If you live near a brick-and-mortar store, browsing in person can be extremely helpful. Even if you know you want to buy online later, it's nice to be able to interact with an appliance in person to judge things like how easy it is to bend down and open the bottom oven on the range you're considering or how much space is really in the chest freezer you're eyeing, which can make decision-making much easier.

  • How long should kitchen appliances last?

The longevity of your kitchen appliances varies based on the type of appliance, brand, and how well you treat and maintain it. A general rule is to expect about 10 years from new, well-maintained appliances. Many will last longer, but this is when you can expect parts to start wearing out and need repair. We recommend regular cleaning and service to get the most life our of your kitchen appliances.

  • What is the best time of year to buy kitchen appliances?

If your freezer has just broken and all your frozen food is defrosting, the best time to buy is right now. However, if you have some time or are simply planning ahead, there are a few key shopping days throughout the year. Black Friday and Cyber Monday are sales where you're likely to save the most. Almost every retailer participates in these sales, and they're widely known as the biggest shopping days of the year. The downside is that you have to shop around between multiple retailers and compare deals to find the best price.

Holidays like Memorial Day and Labor Day come with major markdowns. Also, some retailers host their own major yearly sales, such as Amazon Prime Day and Target Circle Week. Prices are usually significantly lower than other sale prices throughout the year during these sales. However, you're confined to one retailer with a more limited selection.

  • Should kitchen appliances match?

Appliances don't have to match, but picking machines in the same finish can make your kitchen look more cohesive. Finding kitchen appliances that meet your household's needs and fall within your budget are top priorities. However, if there are a few that meet these criteria, choosing the same brands or colors can be a nice touch. Some brands even offer discounts for buying multiple appliances at once, making it easier to get a matching set at a good price.

If you have all-black appliances but the dishwasher you want is cheaper in stainless steel, consider magnetic appliance covers. You can choose a color that matches your other appliances or add some extra personality to your kitchen with a fun splash of color.
