🏆 Honored on Capitol Hill, and inspired by the community that made it possible At a Congressional reception on Capitol Hill last week, the Genesis Fund’s work to support the resident purchase of Cedar Falls Mobile Home Community was recognized. Genesis was named First Place Winner of the national Opportunity Finance Network (OFN) Impact Story Competition, highlighting the powerful journey of residents at the Cedar Falls mobile home community in Bangor, Maine. Last winter, residents went door-to-door in the snow, talking with neighbors and organizing to form the Cedar Falls Residents Cooperative, purchase their community, and secure their homes for the future. OFN described the winning submission as a thoughtful story demonstrating clear community impact made possible through Genesis’ guidance and coordination of financing from private, local, state, and federal sources. At the inaugural OFN National Policy Summit, Genesis Executive Director Liza Fleming-Ives joined other leaders of Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) from across the country gathered to discuss how to strengthen support for community development through new policy solutions, bipartisan partnership, and coalition building. This recognition belongs first and foremost to the residents of Cedar Falls who showed what’s possible when communities have access to the right tools, financing, and partners. At Genesis, we are proud to stand with residents of all kinds of communities as they build stability, ownership, and opportunity.
