The tool doesn't sign the return. You do. With the rise of AI and natural-language search, there's a growing temptation to treat finding an answer as the same thing as having a defensible one. They're not the same, and when the IRS comes knocking, that distinction gets expensive fast. Here's the trap: a poor tool is easy to distrust. A very good one is much harder to second-guess. When research arrives quickly, looks authoritative, and cites the right sources, it takes real professional discipline to ask, is this actually complete? Is this the most current authority? Have I pressure-tested it against my client's specific facts? What are the standards for defensible tax research? - Primary authority is not optional, secondary summaries help you find and understand the law; they don't substitute for it. - Currentness is a professional obligation, a conclusion that was right in 2021 can be wrong in 2026. - The facts must drive the analysis, the law applies to these facts, not a generic pattern. - Documentation is the bridge to defense, in your own words, not copy-paste. - Reasoned judgment is the final step, the one no tool can take for you. The answer matters. The process behind it matters just as much. Read the full article 👇 https://hubs.la/Q04p_BpY0

What if the work moved through your firm on its own? Not the judgment calls, those stay with you. But everything around them: the chasing, the sorting, the "did we get their W-2 yet," the organizers that should've gone out last week, the return sitting in a queue waiting for someone to notice it's ready. That's the premise of our next live webinar. The Self-Driving Firm: Cowork, the Client Portal, and Automations 📅 July 21st, 3:00 PM ET In this session, we'll walk through how TaxGPT Cowork turns your firm into something that runs itself between the moments that actually need you: - An agentic client portal that doesn't just collect documents. It triages them, routes them, and kicks off the next step the moment a client hits submit. - Automations that read client communications and surface the deadlines, requests, and missing pieces buried in your inbox before they slip through the cracks. - Autopilot Tax Workflow that pulls documents as they come in, sends organizers to the right clients at the right time, preps returns for review, and flags errors and missing items before anyone signs off. By the end, you'll see a full loop: work comes in through the portal, automations decide what matters, and agents move it through to delivery with your team doing the thinking, not the busywork. Our CEO Kashif Ali joined Randy Johnston and Brian Tankersley on CPA Practice Advisor's Accounting Technology Lab podcast and laid out the specifics: why general AI tools would rather agree with you than correct you, what it took to build tax research professionals can actually trust, and what agents are already handling today. "If you haven't worked with AI agents yet, this is the moment to jump in. The gap only gets wider from here. We want to help you land on the right side of it. That's what TaxGPT is built for". Check out the full episode linked in the comments.

The distance between CPAs winning with AI and CPAs watching from the sidelines keeps growing. Our CEO Kashif Ali sat down with Courtney Vien of CFO Brew and laid out the specifics: what the CPAs pulling ahead have figured out, why so many others are stuck, and what it actually takes to go from using AI as a shortcut to running it as a core part of your workflow. We want to help you win, too. That’s what TaxGPT is built for. Read the full interview here: https://lnkd.in/d_kW7wsN

We believe firms don't have a capacity problem instead they have a workflow problem. Every busy season ends with the same conversation: we need more people. We heard it again this year, right after filing season. But watch how a single 1040 actually moves through a firm. Documents arrive by email. Someone chases the missing W-2. Someone re-keys numbers the client already typed once. A reviewer checks line by line what software should have flagged. The pipeline of new CPAs isn't coming back. That part is real. But friction, repeated across a thousand returns, looks exactly like a staffing shortage. And firms keep paying to fix it. TaxGPT Cowork puts AI agents inside the software firms already use. A prep agent works the return the way a preparer would. Agent Andrew reviews it the way a reviewer would, automating up to 90% of that work. A capacity problem you can fix with software was never a capacity problem. #taxgpt #taxprep #taxresearch

The profession is splitting into two groups. Firms restructuring their workflows around agentic AI. And firms still using it as a faster search engine. The gap between them is widening every season. We put together a guide for principals who want to understand what the shift actually looks like: how agentic AI is changing research, preparation, and review, and what the first 30 days of the transition look like in practice.
