VB Spine has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the exclusive rights to Augmedics’ CT-to-fluoroscopy technology for spine applications, the company announced today.

CT-fluoro technology allows surgeons to register a patient’s preoperative CT scan using standard fluoroscopic imaging from a 2D C-arm and navigate off those images, potentially eliminating the need for intraoperative CT or 3D imaging systems during spine procedures, the company said.

The technology expands accessibility to augmented reality navigation across a range of facilities and surgical settings while also enabling greater workflow flexibility and reducing imaging requirements, the company said.

“At VB Spine, our goal is to remove barriers that prevent surgeons from accessing technologies that improve procedural efficiency and patient care,” VB Spine co-CEO Marc Viscogliosi said in a news release. “The addition of CT-Fluoro technology for spine applications will be an important step forward for the xvision platform because it provides surgeons with greater flexibility in how they utilize navigation.”

The move builds on VB Spine’s April acquisition of Augmedics’ xvision Spine System platform. This system gives surgeons “X-ray vision” during procedures and “ superimposes” critical data onto the surgical field, allowing surgeons to visualize patient anatomy through the skin and tissue.

The addition of Augmedics’ CT-fluoro technology strengthens the xvision ecosystem and emphasizes the company’s commitment to technologies that simply adopt, expand access and keep patient outcomes at the center of innovation, the company said

The terms of the transaction were not disclosed, but VB Spine intends to make the CT-fluoro technology available as part of its spine procedure offerings following the closing of the deal.
