Living memory of Switzerland for everyone
The Swiss National Library (NL) collects “Helvetica” – Swiss texts, images and sounds – and with its collections safeguards the collective memory of Switzerland. In collaboration with other institutions, it facilitates extensive access to the cultural heritage of the country. As a central memory institution, the National Library bridges the past via the present to the future.

In search of vertical waters
Swiss waterfalls were painted and drawn by Swiss Little Masters (Kleinmeister), described in travel writing and featured on posters promoting tourism. Digitised works from the National Library offer a glimpse into this visual world.
‘A Wonderful World’ by Niklaus Stauss
The archive of photographer Niklaus Stauss includes many treasures. Aged just 24, he captured some stunning photos of the concert by “Louis Armstrong and his All Stars” at Zurich’s Kongresshaus in 1962.
