Stay Ahead with VSME

The EU Omnibus Package has significantly narrowed CSRD requirements, but investors and supply chains still expect transparency. The VSME offers a streamlined, practical alternative, helping SMEs disclose sustainability data without unnecessary complexity. Novata can support.

FAQ

What is CSRD?

The aim of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) is to help key stakeholders, such as investors, consumers, and suppliers, better evaluate the sustainability performance of companies through a reliable and standardized way of reporting and, in turn, reorient capital to sustainable investments.

Who does CSRD impact?

Under the Omnibus I agreement approved by the European Parliament, the CSRD’s mandatory scope is expected to narrow significantly. The employee threshold remains 1,000 employees, with a new threshold of €450 million annual turnover. For companies still in scope, CSRD will continue to require cross-functional preparation to collect consistent, assurance-ready sustainability data.

What are CSRD metrics?

There are no single “CSRD metrics.” Instead, companies report under the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS)—the detailed disclosure requirements that sit beneath CSRD. ESRS include ESRS 1 (General Requirements), which sets overall principles and approach, and ESRS 2 (General Disclosures), which defines baseline disclosures applicable across sustainability topics.

How does Novata support companies with CSRD compliance?

Novata supports CSRD compliance end-to-end — from workforce education and ESRS Readiness Assessments, through Double Materiality Assessment (DMA), data collection, and process optimization, to final independently-assured disclosure. The platform and advisory services are designed to flex as regulations evolve, including changes from the EU Omnibus Package.

How does Novata help with the Double Materiality Assessment?

Novata guides companies through the full DMA process on a single platform, defining business context, identifying Impacts, Risks, and Opportunities (IROs), scoring materiality across financial and impact dimensions, and generating ESRS-mapped data points with export-ready documentation. Packages range from self-serve to fully supported, with Novata AI available to accelerate reporting.

Can Novata support companies that are early in their CSRD journey?

Yes. Novata’s CSRD Readiness packages meet companies where they are. ESRS Readiness covers training and stakeholder alignment for those just starting. Metric Screening identifies required disclosures for companies with a completed DMA. Data Readiness helps operationalize an ESRS metrics list into a practical data collection plan.
