Legal Permanent Residency (LPR) Information Session
This session is a prerequisite to apply for employment-based permanent residency with the University of Pittsburgh. Presenters will cover the main criteria for qualifying under EB-1B and EB-2 categories and how to document your qualifications. Topics covered will be:
- University and regulatory requirements for permanent residency sponsorship
- Processes and Timelines for EB1B and EB2 categories
- Required Evidence for each category
- Next steps to pursue permanent residency at Pitt
- Minimal information will be provided on other employment-based green card options
This session is open to current University of Pittsburgh employees only.

Scholar Orientation
Attendance at this virtual orientation is required for all new J-1 exchange visitors sponsored by the University. You will learn basic immigration regulations relevant to your status and general information about adjusting to life in Pittsburgh and the surrounding community. Please have your passport, visa, I-94 and DS-2019 with you during the orientation. Please note: You may not attend this orientation until after you have arrived to the U.S. to start your program.

H-1B Orientation
The Office of International Services will hold an in-person H-1B Orientation – with breakfast! - to ensure that our H-1B visa holders understand critical aspects of their immigration status. This orientation will cover the following topics:
- How to maintain H-1B status
- H-1B status and remote work
- Timelines for H status and permanent residency
- When to start talking to your department about permanent residency
- Documents required for international travel
We will not discuss permanent residency in any detail at this session.

Pitt has a website for people new to the University of Pittsburgh and its hometown—especially graduate and professional school students, postdocs and new members of the Pittsburgh campus faculty. But undergraduates students are more than welcome to use this resource as well. Cool Pittsburgh is really a guide to moving to Pittsburgh and learning about our beautiful city, its neighborhoods, and its community.
