The Thallon Truck Pull is set to return this August, with one of Queensland’s smallest school P&C associations preparing to host one of the state’s most unique community events.
The Truck Pull has earned international attention this year after featuring in the UK television series Bradley & Barney Walsh: Breaking Dad Australia, introducing the unique event and the Thallon community to audiences overseas.
Hosted by the Thallon State School P&C Association, which supports just 16 students, the biennial event, running on August 29 this year, has become a much-loved attraction, drawing competitors and spectators from across southern Queensland and northern New South Wales.
Teams of six will battle it out by pulling a 12-tonne prime mover across a 25-metre course in the fastest time, competing for bragging rights, $3,000 cash prize and community glory.
The Truck Pull was born during one of the toughest droughts the region had experienced. As families left in search of work and school enrolments declined, the Thallon P&C set out to create something positive that would reconnect the community while raising funds to support its small rural school.

Event organiser Courtney Eyles says excitement for the 2026 event is already building.

“The support from our community and sponsors has been incredible,” Eyles says.
“The Truck Pull is more than just a competition. It’s an opportunity for people to come together, catch up with friends, have a laugh and celebrate what makes country communities so special.”
Following the success of the Women’s Division introduced in 2024, organisers are looking forward to seeing both men’s and women’s teams return to the track this year.
Now in its fourth event, the afternoon of family fun will also feature a free Kids Zone, market stalls, food vendors, bar facilities and entertainment for all ages.
Importantly, funds raised will help deliver a new irrigation system and improve water sustainability at Thallon State School, creating greener, healthier outdoor spaces where students can learn, play and thrive despite any future drought conditions.
“”You don’t have to be from the country to enjoy the Truck Pull,” Eyles says.
“Whether you’re pulling the truck, cheering from the sidelines or simply enjoying a day out with the family, everyone is welcome. It’s country hospitality at its best.”
