Latvian Artists Participate at Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space

Do we learn from history? June 14.

On June 14 the Latvian maroon-white flag is put out with a black band. The tourists and guests always ask why so. When I try to answer this question, it is never enough to say that it is a sign of mourning for those who were lost in mass deportations in 1941 when the Soviets took over. You have to tell more of history, because the years 1940-1945 were very dense with tragic changes for Latvia and its people, Latvians, Jews, Poles, everybody.
