The fatal flaw for Louisville City FC over the first three months of the regular season was its propensity to leak goals.
In fact, the two-time defending Players’ Shield titleholders had conceded more goals through its first 12 games of the regular season than it had in the entire 2025 season.
Over the club’s current four-game undefeated streak in the league, though, things appear to have turned in a better direction. After Saturday night’s 1-0 win at home to Hartford Athletic, the side has conceded only three times in the past four games, solidifying its place in the top four in the Eastern Conference in the process.
“The most pleasing thing for me was the clean sheet, second in a row,” said LouCity Head Coach Simon Bird after Saturday’s result. “And we didn't really, other than the chance at the start of the second half, we didn't really give them much. We defended in advance well, we organized well when we were off the ball. So, all in all, a really pleasing performance.”
Louisville had solid underlying numbers throughout its defensive struggles. It still does, ranking sixth in the league with a 15.12 Expected Goals Against mark through 15 games, an average of just 1.01xGA per 90 minutes. That’s tied for the second-best per-game rate in the league alongside Detroit City FC, trailing only Eastern Conference leaders the Tampa Bay Rowdies.
While there’s still work to be done in the attacking third – Louisville is narrowly underperforming its Expected Goals mark this season overall – the platform is there for the side to make a run.
For those that were celebrating LouCity’s demise a few weeks ago, the rebound may be on the way.
Here are this week’s rankings.

Charleston Battery (8-5-2) Round 4: vs. CLT |
![]() Last Week: 1 |
We’re not much for moral victories, but the Battery were definitely the better side before Graham Smith’s red card against Indy Eleven. Mulligan here. |
| 2 | ![]() |
Orange County SC (7-2-6) Week 19: @ HFD Round 4: vs. COS |
1Last Week: 3 |
OCSC had to dig deep to come away with a point on the road in Rhode Island but managed to do so. Its undefeated streak is up to six games in league play. |
| 3 | ![]() |
Indy Eleven (6-3-3) Week 19: --- |
3Last Week: 6 |
The Boys in Blue were under pressure against the Battery until the red card changed the game. Credit for taking full advantage, though, in what could have ended a scoreless draw. |
| 4 | ![]() |
Lexington SC (5-5-3) Round 4: @ LOU |
9Last Week: 13 |
There might have been no bigger statement made this weekend than Lexington’s win at Tampa Bay. Quality in the final third, determination defensively, very big win. |
| 5 | ![]() |
Detroit City FC (7-4-3) Round 4: @ FW |
2Last Week: 7 |
Le Rouge has been excellent at finding late goals this season. Thursday night’s winner by Ben Morris was the seventh goal the side has scored in the final 15 minutes or stoppage time this season. |
| 6 | ![]() |
Tampa Bay Rowdies (9-2-4) Round 4: vs. NAP |
4Last Week: 2 |
That was a reality check for the Rowdies, who were uncharacteristically slack to open the game. Lexington made them pay, but they should learn from it. |
| 7 | ![]() |
New Mexico United (6-4-3) Round 4: @ ELP |
5Last Week: 12 |
Almost 15,000 fans packing out Isotopes Park for Cristian Nava to deliver an early wondergoal was magic. United’s making a good move up the standings. |
| 8 | ![]() |
San Antonio FC (6-2-7) Round 4: vs. CHA |
3Last Week: 5 |
There wasn’t much going on with San Antonio’s attack before Jorge Hernández drilled his penalty kick off the crossbar. That one’s going to sting a bit. |
| 9 | ![]() |
Sacramento Republic FC (4-4-4) Week 19: vs. RI Round 4: @ ACB |
1Last Week: 8 |
Republic FC got washed out in Tulsa and now faces a key week. At home to Rhode Island and away at Athletic Club Boise should be two compelling contests. |
| 10 | ![]() |
Louisville City FC (7-5-3) Round 4: vs. LEX |
1Last Week: 11 |
Louisville City’s finding its way back after its first home win since April 25. The finishing needs to be sharper, though, as Lexington comes to town on Saturday. |
| 11 | ![]() |
Rhode Island FC (4-4-4) Week 19: @ SAC Round 4: vs. BKN |
1Last Week: 10 |
On another night, Rhode Island walks away with a comfortable win against Orange County, but its finishing let it down. The performance was still good, though. |
| 12 | ![]() |
Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC (6-5-2) Round 4: vs. LDN |
8Last Week: 4 |
The attacking frustrations seemed to spill out for the Hounds on Saturday night. They looked bright early but once that subsided they left the door open for Brooklyn to capitalize. |
| 13 | ![]() |
Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC (5-5-4) Round 4: @ OC |
2Last Week: 15 |
The Switchbacks got what they deserved for their performance against Phoenix. We haven’t been able to say that every time the side’s played well. |
| 14 | ![]() |
FC Tulsa (5-4-4) Round 4: @ BHM |
![]() Last Week: 14 |
Such a shame for the Scissortails’ Fourth of July bonanza to get washed out. We were looking forward to their game with Republic FC. |
| 15 | ![]() |
Oakland Roots SC (5-4-6) Round 4: vs. SPK |
4Last Week: 9 |
Roots was flat to open in New Mexico, failing to record a shot in the first half. The second half was better, but it’s hard to come back when you’re in that sort of a hole. |
| 16 | ![]() |
Monterey Bay FC (4-8-3) Round 4: vs. LV |
1Last Week: 17 |
Penalty kick aside, Monterey Bay did well to contain San Antonio FC’s attack. It might have been fortunate to come away with a point, but every little helps. |
| 17 | ![]() |
Brooklyn FC (3-8-3) Round 4: @ RI |
2Last Week: 19 |
CJ Olney is coming into his own for BKFC with goal contributions in his last five away games for the side. Saturday’s blast in Pittsburgh was superb to earn the club its first road win. |
| 18 | ![]() |
Hartford Athletic (4-3-6) Week 19: vs. OC Round 4: vs. WES |
2Last Week: 16 |
Hartford’s attacking struggles are starting to get concerning. The side’s shot conversion rate on all shots this season is down to 7.3%. |
| 19 | ![]() |
El Paso Locomotive FC (5-5-4) Round 4: vs. NM |
3Last Week: 22 |
A much-needed win for Locomotive to break its eight-game losing streak. Now they’ll host New Mexico United in one of this weekend’s must-see Prinx Tires USL Cup matchups. |
| 20 | ![]() |
Las Vegas Lights FC (4-7-3) Round 4: @ MB |
2Last Week: 18 |
The Lights scored on their lone shot on target against El Paso but simply weren’t clinical enough. There was a result to be had if they’d been sharper. |
| 21 | ![]() |
Phoenix Rising FC (4-6-5) Round 4: @ AV |
1Last Week: 20 |
Rising made a perfect start in Colorado Springs but were second-best otherwise. Four games without a win in the league and now below the playoff line. |
| 22 | ![]() |
Birmingham Legion FC (2-5-8) Round 4: vs. TUL |
1Last Week: 21 |
Legion’s late equalizer against Miami was superb from Peter-Lee Vassell, but this side continues to underperform in attack overall. |
| 23 | ![]() |
Loudoun United FC (1-5-8) Round 4: @ PIT |
![]() Last Week: 23 |
The late-game drama against Sporting Club Jacksonville kinda summed up Loudoun’s recent form. They could have won that game but gave it away after conceding late. |
| 24 | ![]() |
Miami FC (4-5-6) Round 4: @ SAR |
![]() Last Week: 24 |
Good news was that Eloy Room and Jürgen Locadia were both solid on Sunday night against Birmingham. Locadia’s going to need to find his shooting radar, though. |
| 25 | ![]() |
Sporting JAX (0-11-4) Week 19: --- |
![]() Last Week: 25 |
Jacksonville’s still winless, but finding a late equalizer against Loudoun was a boost in confidence at least. |
