Just Perfect for adding USB3 support to an older system!
I have four systems in my house... two are "modern" while my two older systems... well... one has only USB3 in the back, no front connectors, and the other... it has no USB3 at all, front or back. Both had tiny MATX MBs with nothing more than a PCI-E 3.0 slot for a GPU and one tiny PCI-E expansion slot I figured I'd never have a use for. I had put my older systems in newer cases that had front USB3 support, but the cords were just tucked away since neither motherboard supported front USB3... I decided to see if there was some way of adding Front USB3 support to my older systems when I noticed you could get a PCI-E card to do it... but all of them required an extra power cord, and I was really trying to keep my systems with good cable management and didn't want extra power cords floating around, when I came across this card from Inateck. All I can say is... WOW... performs exactly as advertised... it truly is plug-and-play... *both these older systems run Win7, and all I had to do was plug the cards into the PCI-E slot, plug-in the front USB3 cord from the case... fire up the system, insert the included driver disc and in seconds the drivers were installed and everything worked. (*I since upgraded one of the systems to Win10 and can confirm this card works in Win10 as well without any issues at all). I have a USB thumbdrive that gets "uppity" when I plug it into a USB2 port and it always likes to say "i'd be faster in a USB3 port"... I put my thumbdrive in all ports, front and back, and it was very happy with the USB3 support. Nice to have truth in advertising... this is truly a plug-and-play card that installs quick and easy in the oldest of systems, works with older OS's like Win7 and doesn't require any additional power inputs. I bought two for my systems and am very happy to breath new life into some older PCs.

      UPDATE 3/3/2016

As I came home tonight, there was a small package with replacement card from Inateck (Thanks for fast response).

I swapped the card and both ports are back on.

Thanks for the great customer service; I had almost given up hope on this.

Back to 5 stars ... because it just works ...

      ---------------------------------------

UPDATE: I do not see any substantial improvements in speeds compared USB 2.0.

And to top it all exactly after 32 days one of the ports stopped working ... :-|

Amazon won't return, and Inateck hasn't replied to any of my emails. Downgrading review from 5 stars to 0 (well 1) stars.

I think I am done upgrading my MacPro. This is ridiculous, with majority of cards not supporting one Mac OS X version or other.

I will stick with USB 2.0 and NAS running on GigE.

      ---------------------------------------

Finally, something that works on El Capitan.

      I have MacPro 4,1 (2009 model).

This card works in El Capitan, no drivers required. I have boot camped the MacPro 4,1 and it works in Windows 10 also, again no drivers required.

You can buy this card, or more importantly look for a USB 3.0 card with "Fresco" chipset (that chipset is supported in Mac OS 10.x, thus far).

A little bit of history of how I got here. When I upgraded my MacPro to Mavericks (Mac OS X 10.9), I decided to get myself a USB3.0 + eSATA card (to support bunch of drives I have. I checked around and got myself a really expensive CalDigital FASTA-6GU3 from Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005X8NW36). The card worked great in Mavericks and Yosemite (Mac OS X 10.10).

As soon as I upgraded to El Capitan, the card won't let me boot to Mac OS. When I contacted CalDigital, they told me it is obsolete and not supported in El Capitan (really? for a card that costs 5x any other card in the market does not have driver support).

It worked fine in boot camped Windows 10 though.

After looking through many cards and even trying a few, I finally got this card today.

      And yes it works !

In both Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan, and Windows 10. Without any drivers installation required.

The only downside I would say is that it has only 2 USB 3.0 ports (wish it had four).

I Love my Maximus Hero X (Wi-Fi AC), however having only 1 USB 3.0 Header became a problem for me due to having a case with 4 front panel USB 3.0 Ports. For aesthetic reasons I did not want to run a power cable from the back of the case (Thermaltake Tower 900) to the display area for a USB 3.0 Card to create the additional header necessary to use the 2 other ports.

This card was a sight-for-sore-eyes as I was having trouble locating a card that did not require additional power. The card came well packed and included a half-height expansion slot bracket, that I did not need but was good to see anyway as I could see applications where it would be necessary.

I installed the 1X card in my last 16X slot easily and it was immediately recognized upon start up of Windows. At first I tried to use the card using the included Windows driver and it saw the devices that were connected, but as soon as I tried to access them, it was almost like they lost power. I restarted and got the same behavior. I decided to use the included installation CD to use the driver that is supplied with the card and once that was installed the card has worked flawlessly. The driver installation was extremely easy as they tell you how to identify which version of the driver you need based on card color.

I have been using the card to access USB Card Readers and USB Thumb Drives and it has performed admirably. While I can attest to some speed loss versus the included motherboard header it is minimal and very acceptable given that it is an unpowered card.

Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase and hope to see continued use of the card over the long term with limited hiccups. The card installed easily, was immediately recognized and once the supplied driver was installed it has been working flawlessly.

Great little card and a good value. Comes with all you need to install, including a little screwdriver which is nice.

The card works as expected with no issues at all - Win 10 recognized it and all four ports work.

My only issue is that the pins are sooo fragile. I had to remove my 20 pin cable and when I tried to reinstall it, i noticed that several of the pins had bent (and I was really careful!). Luckily with a little work I was able to get them back in place and it works, so just be careful.

Works Great on windows 10. No need for driver installation...

20 pin (really 19) connector works great for front USB 3.0 ports.

      Fully powered.

Tested a usb 3.0 (independtly powered) hub and it works perfectly, as long as it has it's own power source. Not sure if one powered by the USB would work considering all the power is coming from the PCIe slot.

Also.. TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION.. Because of the convenience of not needing to hook up the power supply to this card and it pulling all it's power directly from the PCIe Slot, if you have any other PCI slots powering anything that share power with the PCIe port you're going to plug this into, it may suck up too much power and it may not work properly and/or cause whatever you have plugged in the other slot to not work properly. So keep that in mind. It is best if this is plugged into a PCIe slot that does not share power with any others. Check your motherboards manual to see which PCIe slots, if any, share power.

If you don't have any options and are worried that your PCIe slot you plan to plug this into is shared with another PCI slot in use, you may be better off getting the INATECK card that hooks up VIA ATX PSU, so that it doesn't draw all it's power through the PCIe slot.

I got it so I could use a USB/cardreader running at USB3 speeds via my case front panel. The prior ' 5.25" Media Dashboard ' of which there are a million variants sold by as many companies, never really worked well, as the USB ports did not work and always brought up system bad driver warnings, and the SD card reader failed after a year. But with only 1 USB3 connector on my motherboard, I needed another one to get a USB3 or faster SD card reader for my DSLR photos.

This card installed into the computer easily, and other than slowing the bootup the first time, needed no new drivers on my Windows 10 machine. Just works, both via the back ports with my ASUS ROG keyboard plugged in exteriorly, and the USB3 connector to the front of my case, is sync'ing my iPhone now without problems.

(I ended up not using with the new SD card reader, because my cable management was neater this way)

The quality seems good - sturdy, seems well built. And from Germany, so probably good quality. Came in a professional box, with screws, a case plate with USB 3 labels on it, and a good little instruction book and mini-CD. But I did not even read the direction manual before installing. Just popped it in, did not install drivers or anything. Works fine, no Windows warnings.

RE: Inateck KT4006. This card uses the Fresco Logic FL1100SX chipset. This is one of the newer USB 3.0 chipsets out and it's very reliable. Ran my external USB bus powered Hard Drive with no problems. Drivers are built into Windows 8.1 and Server 2012 (and also Windows PE 5.0). However, there are newer drivers on the Fresco Logic website under support. I've tested these newer drivers with Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 with no problems. If you have Server 2012 and need a USB 3.0 Card that will power your portable USB 3.0 Hard Drivers for backup purposes, this is your baby. I've tried 4 other cards and had various issues with Server 2012. The KT4006 worked flawlessly (Dell PowerEdge T320 w/Server 2012 R2). I had to use a longer USB 3.0 cable and had issues with one brand of cable. If you need a longer cable and have issues, try a different brand USB 3.0 cable and keep the length at 3'

Note: Fresco Logic FL1100SX (2-port) and FL1100EX (4-port) chipsets are one of the newer USB 3.0 chipsets out and very fast and reliable. The Inateck 3.0 PCI-E Expansion Cards that are RED in color use Fresco chipsets such as the Inateck KTU3FR-4P and KTU3FR-5O2I. They are on Amazon. Drivers are built into Windows 8 and later. You can also download updated drivers from the Fresco Logic website under support (not really necessary for Windows 8 or later). The Inateck website has mandatory drivers for Windows XP or Windows 7.

I am giving this 1 star due to the customer service and the vendor not having the proper support for Windows 10 (Current version of the drivers Windows 10 Ver1.00.0270).

(If you wish to skip my rant and see the solution go to the bottom.)

When I was using this network card with Windows 7 I had no issues; the 3.4 GHz band worked and the 5 GHz band worked and flawlessly at that! However after upgrading to windows 10 the card would try to connect to the network and it was fail every time. I initially thought it was the router so I took some steps to rule it out; this included connecting other devices to it (laptop, 2 cell phones, an iPad) then restarting the router. After this initial investigation turned up nothing I then focused on the wireless card within my PC.

The next steps were to validate that the drivers installed properly and that windows could properly recognize the device. Once I verified that; I re-downloaded the drivers from Inateck then uninstalled the drivers, deleting the drivers that were associated, restarted the PC, unzipped the drivers; executed the setup.exe tried to reconnect to 5GHz band. No dice.

Emailed their support I was told to "Please uninstall all the Inateck drivers, reseat the card and try again. Hope this helps.". Fantastic customer service?

So I took this experts advise just to see if it would magically help, and to no ones surprise it did not. I did not bother emailing their support after this; so I used the power of Google.

The solution finally came about by uninstalling/deleteing the Inateck drivers -> restarting the PC -> stopping windows from applying drivers-> open device manager -> select the hardware -> update driver -> browse my computer -> select 'let me pick from a list...' -> (if 'show compatible hardware 'is checked your journey is almost over) Select the top with version 1024.4.910.2013 -> install and reboot -> profit

(if 'show compatible hardware' is unchecked your journey is a couple more steps)

press R then scroll down till you see Realtek and select the 2nd one as this list has 2 -> 3/4 the way down this list you will see the RTL8821AU drivers; select the top with version 1024.4.910.2013

It's really good, but sadly didn't resolve that issue I was getting with my Vive headset. On the bright side, more USB ports.

      Good alternative to Silverstone EC04-P

Used this in a new build where I needed 2x USB3.0 headers and the motherboard I was using only had one. This gave me the additional USB3.0 header and it works well, despite it not having a separate power cable. I've used a wireless mouse dongle along with a jump drive in these ports and had no problems.

The drivers work fine in Windows 10 64-bit.

I found this to be a good affordable alternative to the similar but more expensive Silverstone cards, which seem to be getting difficult to find anyway.

If it doesn't work straight out of the box let Windows Update do it 's thing...it will install a USB3 root hub...eventually.

Then get the relevant driver from the inateck website. Have updated a 6yr old Intel board and a 9yr old AMD board without any issues.
