Unlimited Privacy

With CodePen PRO, you get unlimited Private Pens and Collections.

Privacy for Showcasing Work

Use Private Pens as Drafts

Pens are public by default on CodePen. Private Pens are none of those things — no one can see them unless you decide to share them. They aren't shown in search. They can't be seen on your profile. No license is applied to them.

One way to use Private Pens is to keep all your Pens private while you are working on them, then toggle them over to Public when you are ready.

No Annoying Passwords

Nobody can guess a URL like the URLs to your private work on CodePen. They are totally unfindable until you share that URL. Anybody who you share that URL with can see it — they don't have to be logged in or have an account.

Private Collections

Send Private Collections to Clients

One popular reason to make Private Pens is for in-progress concepts for client work. You can make Private Collections and put Private Pens in them. Send clients a link to the Private Collection and they can see everything related to a project in one place.

How Private is Private?

This is how private content works on CodePen:

  • Private content gets an unguessable URL.
  • Private content is not findable through public CodePen search. You can still search your own content to find your own private content.
  • We tell third-party search engines not to index private content.
  • Private content is not findable on CodePen except by you on your profile while logged in.

What privacy isn't on CodePen:

  • There are no passwords involved.
  • There is no user authentication involved.

This isn't enterprise-level mega-encrypted super-security. It's very secret URLs for your content that are unfindable until you choose to share them.

Privacy for Teams

Team Members Can Work Together Privately

People who are on the same Team can work on private content together. As long as you are logged in and in the Team Context, you can see all the Team's private content right on the Team Profile.

Are there limits to how much I can create on CodePen?

You can create an unlimited number of Pens & Collections on CodePen.

How do private Pens and Collections work?

By default the Pens and Collections you create on CodePen are public. They show up in your public profile and live a public and social life — other users can heart them, find them in searches, and comment on them.

PRO members can create private Pens and Collections. Your private content is hidden from your CodePen profile and from search on CodePen, only seen by you and anyone you share the private link with.

What is Asset Hosting?

CodePen PRO accounts offer asset hosting, where you can upload files directly to CodePen to use in the Pens that you build. Images, styles, scripts, even audio and video for you to use in your demos. Rather than the awkward steps of finding somewhere else to host those files, you can now just drag a file right onto CodePen to upload it. We’ll host it for you, and you can use it anywhere you like with HTTPS, caching, and CORS support.

What are your accepted payment methods?

CodePen accepts credit cards, PayPal, and other forms of payment you may see on the checkout form depending on the capabilities of your device, like Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Microsoft Pay.

Custom invoicing and payment methods are possible on enterprise accounts.

Where can I find my receipts?

If you've ever paid for a PRO account, you'll see your billing history and receipts on the billing page in settings.

How do I change plans and what happens?

You can change PRO plans anytime on the PRO Plan Signup page. New plans will be effective immediately. Moving up plans will be pro-rated accordingly.

How do Team Accounts work?

Teams allow for shared work and shared billing. Team Owners are able invite others to the team, including other admins. All Team Members have Developer PRO access. You can switch back and forth between your Team and Individual plans anytime instantly.

Teams are billed by the number of PRO seats. You can have Team members that do not have PRO access, but can still be an admin. For example, for a billing department member who needs that access but otherwise doesn't use CodePen.

How do I add and remove Team members?

Each Team you're on has an Accounts & Members area in Settings where you can manage the Team roster, as long as you're an admin or owner of the Team.

Do you have enterprise plans & pricing?

Enterprise plans are Team accounts that require custom agreements and paperwork. Contact us with your requirements. If your company does not require anything custom, feel free to use a regular self-serve Team account.

We do not offer a self-hosted version of CodePen.

What happens if my payment method fails?

If your monthly or yearly rebilling fails, you'll receive a series of 3 emails letting you know and allowing you to take action.

How do I cancel my PRO membership?

You can adjust your PRO plan or cancel it on the account area of settings. You can also cancel by deleting your account.

What happens after you cancel PRO (downgrade to a free account) is detailed here.
