Inspiration African graduates are ATS-invisible — their CVs never make it past the filter. Fambai CV exists to change that. What it does One app, four tools: CV builder, portfolio generator, live job board, and an AI-powered ATS keyword scanner. We also shipped a Job Scam Detector — because for African job seekers, the real risk isn't just rejection, it's exploitation. A complete, trustworthy career system built for the African job market. How we built it Flutter for a mobile-first frontend, FastAPI (Python) microservices for ATS scoring and scam detection, Firebase/Firestore for data and auth. Built lightweight on purpose — for real African data and device conditions, not Silicon Valley assumptions. Challenges we ran into Payment integration is our biggest open challenge — most African markets lack one dominant gateway, so we're weighing local vs. cross-border options (DPO Group, Pesepay) while formalizing the business to qualify. We also rebuilt PDF generation and font loading to stop crashes on low-end Android devices, which is what most of our users run. Accomplishments we're proud of 1,000+ downloads, zero paid acquisition, 4.4★ on Play Store — pure word of mouth in a market where trust is hard to earn. Shipped a working ATS Keyword Analyzer and Scam Detector, two features most career apps in this space don't even attempt. What we learned Users don't need more features — they need fewer, better ones. Our biggest engagement jump came from making existing tools faster and more reliable, not from adding new ones. What's next Closing the loop with in-app payments once business registration is done, so we can offer premium CV reviews and smarter job matching. We're also evolving the scam detector from rules-based to a trained classifier as we collect more flagged listings.
