Hello, I liked the game Xonotic, so I created an installation package for it in Installer-SH format. I'd like to hear your opinion about this installation package and the software distribution format.

The package contains the original Xonotic v0.8.6 game, the NetRadiant map editor, the Mapping Support package, and the source code. Since the Installer-SH format technically allows this, I also added several libraries not mentioned in the NetRadiant system requirements to ensure the editor runs smoothly on the tested Linux distributions.

The game and editor have been successfully tested on Chimbalix 24.8, Debian 11, Fedora 32, Manjaro 20, and openSUSE Leap 15.5. There's also a video showing the installation and launch of the game in Installer-SH format: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4A4tKVKBPYs

The installation package size is 1.2 GiB. Users can also manually unzip the archives in the "installer_data" directory to obtain the game files without installation. Link to the installation package: https://github.com/Shedou/Chimbalix-Soft...xonotic086

The map was made by running UnrealEd and NetRadiant side by side. As a result, the geometry of this map is broadly similar to that of the original.

Greetings!

While i was searching for quake alternatives last night i was surprised to see that the AFPS scene was still very alive. I stumbled upon xonotic and i decided to download it. However i was not very sure if the system requirements for the game was accurate (the download page said Windows 7 or newer).

Nevertheless i decided to still try to see if the game was going to run on winXP. Surprisingly it did.

Attached below are screenshots of me being able to get the game running on my laptop to prove that yes indeed, this game could run on XP.

It depends however. This is WinXP 32 bit, so only 32 bit xonotic executable can run. Not sure if it can run on the x64 edition as ive not tried that and its based more on Windows Server 2003.

Overall, i believe this game may entirely be functional on WinXP. I have not seen any issues with running it, i was only able to play single player and instant action matches as i cant always get the internet on this laptop, so i havent tested multiplayer functionality yet.

However no, i dont recommend you actually go out of your way to run this on a real Windows XP system just in case. i know the security risks related to it, youre using an OS who is legally old enough to drive and drink. So enthusiasts using WinXP like me relegate it to pure offline use. Its just a little discovery ive made that i wish to share with you people.

Maybe if there is a xonotic developer who could check into this.
Iv played on and off for about 3 years, used different accounts and usernames but I got the itch again.
I have recently made a deathmatch Instagib server on my Zimaboard 2. I have also created a server only leaderboard with Python and a small database. I was pretty excited for this, it’s optional to be added to the leaderboard and you can be removed at any time. I’m still playing around and testing things out but I’m hoping to create more features for the server once I do some more brainstorming. Figured I’d hop In and share and just get conversation going.

just wanted to say "hi", I am super new to Xonotic and want to build my own maps for the game.
I have quite some mapping experience (built tons of maps for counterstrike source) and also spent quite some time during the last 8 years doing gamedevelopment using the Godot game engine.
Lately I just wanted to get back to "simple" mapping without all the hassle of programming the actual game and stumbled over Xonotic. The game looks and feels great and I wanted to give it a try

Currently still struggling a bit with setup to get everything going, but am hoping to get my issues resolved with the help of the community here!
There doesn't seem to be a lot of activity here, but it also doesn't seem to be super dead!
Cheers to all

garden.shader
shaderlist.txt -> only contains the word "garden"

the garde.shader contains:
textures/garden/grass_01
{
qer_editorimage textures/garden/grass_01.jpg

{
map textures/garden/grass_01.jpg
}

normalmap textures/garden/grass_01_normal.jpg
}

In netradiant (working on linux) I see the garden directory in the texturebrowser, but it shows the diffuse AND the normal map. According to ChatGPT a sign of the shader not working.

I can assign the diffuse texture to a brush, but when I go ingame the texture is invisible (not showing at all).

Any help on what I am doing wrong would be highly appreciated

Hello,

currently am playing Xonotic on my Framework 12 with Debian Stable and am seeing weird connection errors.

Every now and then (the timing is variable, maybe every 10 minutes) I get weird server lag. It happens on all the servers though, so I expect it be a problem on my client. It behaves typically to when you lose connection to the server: the position of ever player only gets updated every second or so, the framerate remains stable, after 10 seconds it goes back to normal.

Did anybody else have this kind of problem? I only have that with xonotic.

Have a pic of the netgraph attached, but i doubt thats helpful.

Hello all

Been mostly playing Overwatch 1 (under the alias Vogi and later FFAReinhardt), but they ruined it, which kinda sucks as I really liked the setting, characters and lighter tone.
Also am more of a casual (who would have guessed playing overwatch) but I think I can keep up if the environment is right.
I am known to choke in the most critical situations so please do not expect much of me if things get dicey, im just here to have fun

Maybe I can sneak in a small question into my introduction if its okey.
I guess there is no way of merging or deleting stat ids, right? I mean without having access to the private file.
It wouldn't make much sense anyways but maybe Admins can merge the same nick? If its clear the old ones are inactive.
Been distro hopping and did not know there way a private file i should have brought along.
