During Erving’s start, he embraced an important relationship with Universal Music executive Charles Suitt. Charles was a catalyst at the time to understand how to create a path ahead for Erving’s career, which like all brands and talents is unknown until direction is identified. He knew early on that the traditional 9-5 wasn’t written for him as his entrepreneurial mindset took him down a road that would allow him to harness his hustle and flow mentality to move culture. Here is when Erving was first blessed with the direction of management allowing him to understand the full scope of music and entertainment leading him to come across a talent that was making a difference in music.

The talent was a producer named Rodney Jerkins, who was producing for every big name artist in the industry at the time from Michael Jackson, Destiny’s Child, Brandy, and the list goes on. Erving has managed to discover dynamic performers and position himself as a music mogul. One of Erving Wonder’s success stories is the UK-born duo Floetry, whose 2002 debut album received Grammy nominations. Erving’s roster of talent also includes such top names as Floetry, Angie Stone, Rodney Jerkins, and hip-hop artist Freeway.

As Erving continued learning lessons within the music and entertainment industry, he made a major move in 2001 teaming up with longtime friend Troy Carter to form Erving Wonder Management in Philadelphia by merging Carter’s Boy Wonder Management and Erving’s J. Erving Group, with operations respectively headed by Carter and Erving. The merger brought in additional representation of the wildly successful female hip hop artist, Eve, as well as Beanie Siegel.

In 2004, Erving and Carter took the Philadelphia-based Erving Wonder Management and sold it for a reported $12 million to Sanctuary Group, one of the largest international and independent music companies based in the UK. At Sanctuary, Erving & Carter served as executive vice presidents of Sanctuary’s urban division until 2010, where they represented artists Beyonce, Destiny’s Child, Nelly, and Mario.

Erving and Carter joined forces again in 2008 as Erving became co-president of Troy Carters’ company, The Atom Factory. Erving would continue pushing the boundaries of management with Carter until 2015 at Atom Factory which included a roster of chart topping stars like Miguel, Tyga, John Legend, Lady Gaga, Charlie Puth, Megan Trainor, and John Mayer.

As success continued to present itself with each move through Erving’s career, Erving decided to make another big splash. In 2016, Erving formed a digital distribution company called Human Re-Sources, which later in 2019 ranked Top 10 independent distributors in the industry widely recognized for being an independent powerhouse of talent development.

Erving built the company at the intersection of culture and technology, while overseeing a roster of artists such as Brent Faiyaz, YBN Nahmir, YBN Cordae, and along with others that reached over 1 billion streams in less than 12 months. Human Re-Sources proved to grow exponentially as it garnered streaming audience engagement with a combined 2.5 billion streams since the company was founded. Throughout the years, Erving found success with an instinctual, focused methodology that enabled the discovery and cultivation of talent while maintaining boutique status with Human Re-Sources.

In 2019, in addition to his success with Human Re-sources, Erving co-founded and launched a modern music and technology company with Troy Carter and Suzy Ryoo called Q&A / Venice Music. The company known for his forward thinking strategies and ventures in technology investments and proprietary software.

Erving started his path with the dedicated hustle and in 2020 his dedication to his entrepreneurial journey proved itself once again. In 2020, Sony Music acquired Human Re-Sources and Erving became EVP reporting to Sony Music’s Chairman, Rob Stringer.

Currently, Erving has positioned himself into the intersection of music, media, sports, and technology. He continues to harness the success from each move he’s made to date, while continuing to move culture and pushing boundaries.
