Five years ago, when co-founder Jordan Tigani pitched open sourcing a single-node database at SingleStore, the response was, "People are going to laugh at us." The objection wasn't technical. It was social. It was about what the database community would think. Jordan turned this rejection into a philosophy. If someone's going to laugh at you for building something, maybe that's actually a signal worth paying attention to. Maybe the best way to deal with that is to own the joke and admit the truth: "we've got small data."
