Computers? Computers.

For Hire

Hello viewer! I was recently laid off by Cloudflare, so for the first time in several years I'm currently looking for a new role. I'm ideally looking for a full-time software engineering position in Austin, TX or remote, though I will consider relocating domestically or internationally for the right opportunity. I specialize in back-end and infrastructure work, with much of my recent work being on large-scale distributed systems and deployment/provisioning practices for such systems.

I am perfectly adept at using modern AI development workflows, but I haven't lost my ability to write software the good ol' way. I'm happy to work in AI-friendly or AI-unfriendly workplaces - it makes no difference to me.

My CV/resume is available at https://piperswe.me/cv.pdf.

About This Site

Computers? Computers. is the personal web site of Piper McCorkle, a software engineer from Austin, TX.

This web site is a SvelteKit project, with any scripts designed as progressive enhancement. Ideally, it should function fine with JavaScript disabled, but SvelteKit allows me to easily add interactivity to my blog posts. If you run into issues viewing this site with JavaScript disabled (or with an old browser), shoot me an email and I'll see if I can fix it!

I'm using Bootstrap as some basic CSS to get things going. Code blocks are highlighted using Prism, and code is set in Berkeley Mono (my favorite monospaced typeface, which I'm also using in the editor I'm writing this in!).

Elsewhere on the World Wide Web

  • My wiki mostly contains information about my growing vintage software and hardware collection, along with hi-res scans of packaging and rips of media.
  • I do a decent amount of mapping work on OpenStreetMap.

Advertising

I don't like invasive ads, or ones that track you across the Web. I do think a banner ad would spruce up this site though, so I'd like to make an offer to other folks with personal web sites.

If you wanna show a banner ad on this home page (at no cost, of course! just for the fun of it), shoot me an email and we can chat about it. I don't want to advertise some random company or anything. If I wanted to do that, I'd throw on some AdSense and call it a day. I'd like some actual character.

This offer is only open to personal web sites, blogs, or web comics. The ad must link to a personal domain, Neocities page, or the like - no social media (incl. sites like Mastodon/Misskey or Webtoon/Tapas/etc) links allowed.
