A spider roll

A spider roll is a type of sushi roll. It has deep fried tempura batter covered soft-shell crab, cucumber, avocado, mayonnaise, in nori (seaweed) and rice.[1] It is a popular sushi roll in North America.[2]

The roll was created by Hidekazu Tojo at his sushi restaurant in Vancouver, British Columbia.[3] It is called a spider roll because of the look. When the legs of the crab stick out, it makes it look like a spider.[4]
