IIT Delhi becomes India’s top-ranked institution in QS World University Rankings 2027
IIT Delhi has once again emerged as India’s highest-ranked institution in the QS World University Rankings 2027. The institute secured the 118th position globally, improving by five places from last year’s rank of 123.
With this achievement, IIT Delhi has matched the highest-ever global rank attained by an Indian institution in the QS World University Rankings.
The latest rankings, released on June 18, 2026, show IIT Delhi’s continued rise on the global education stage. Over the past four years, the institute has improved significantly, moving from 197th position in the QS World University Rankings 2024 to 118th in 2027. The improvement reflects the institute’s growing reputation in teaching, research and graduate employability.
One of the most significant achievements for IIT Delhi was seen in the Employer Reputation criterion, as it improved 11 ranks and entered the global top-39.
The criterion is designed to show how employers from all over the world consider graduates of various educational institutions. Higher positioning means that graduates of IIT Delhi enjoy high popularity among companies.
Another area in which the institute demonstrated excellent results is the criterion of Employment Outcomes, showing an improvement of 60 ranks. The criterion focuses on university performance in preparing students for their professional careers.
There has been an enhancement in the Citations per Faculty indicator for IIT Delhi. It has improved by 26 spots. It calculates the average citation count for the publications done by the faculties. This criterion is commonly used for assessing the quality of research undertaken by universities. The development highlights the increasing international reach of IIT Delhi’s research.
IIT Delhi was also recognized as being one of the best universities for engineering and technology based on the 2026 QS World University Rankings by Subject.
Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering and Civil Engineering were all ranked among the world's top 50 subjects.
