Mike Doty is an attorney in Tonkon Torp’s Litigation Department and Bankruptcy & Restructuring Practice Group. Mike guides clients through complex financial disputes, restructurings, and bankruptcies. He approaches every matter with an eye towards helping his clients achieve pragmatic resolutions while meeting their business goals.
Mike joined Tonkon Torp after two years managing his own boutique law firm, Doty Law LLC, where he represented financial institutions, businesses, guarantors, and individuals in connection with loan defaults, workouts, restructurings, business litigation, and employment litigation.
Mike’s prior experience also includes a stint as Deputy District Attorney with Multnomah County, serving as Corporate Trust Relationship Manager at U.S. Bank, and over a decade as a finance and restructuring attorney at an AmLaw 50 firm.
Representative Matters
Business Disputes
- Represented one of the nation’s largest retailers in a $1.175B fraudulent conveyance action arising out of a leveraged buyout transaction.
- Represented hedge fund lender in connection with the termination of a $160 million defaulted credit facility.
- Represented CDO trustee in litigation brought by CDO noteholders against COO credit default swap provider.
- Represented warehouse line of credit lender in disputes against various mortgage originator borrowers.
Debtor-Creditor Disputes
- Represented owner trustee for approximately 75 residential mortgage-backed securitization trusts in asserting various claims against the bankruptcy estates of Lehman Brothers Holdings, Inc. and its affiliates.
- Represented secured creditor and contract counterparty in bankruptcy cases arising out of $244 million fraud perpetrated by principal of cattle feedlot.
- Represented secured lender in chapter 15 bankruptcy involving an operating mine in the United States.
- Represented equipment lessor in connection with attempts by chapter 11 debtor to assume and assign lease.
Corporate Trust
- Represented the owner trustee for approximately 30 residential mortgage-backed securitization trusts in evaluating and accepting a $4.5B settlement offer to resolve mortgage loan repurchase liabilities.
- Represented trustee of approximately 60 life insurance premium finance trusts in connection with various issues.
- Represented corporate trustee in investigating and unwinding a $200 million series of fraudulent transactions.
- Represented indenture trustee in connection with liquidation of $2 billion collateralized debt obligation.
