What is old is better
Reviewed in the United States on December 28, 2023This book is amazing. It is not just a book with recipes but literally a teaching tool. Every aspect of cooking and nutrition in one book and written in a way that is encouraging. In today's society when people look for that fastest way to get through meals start to finish, this book encourages you to take your time and enjoy the whole process. I highly recommend it and wish it was still in print just as this one is. No updates. Our parents/grandparents were healthier because of slow living.

OUTSTANDING COOKBOOK
Reviewed in the United States on April 28, 2015This thing must be 3 inches thick! And since I am such a fan of Culinary Arts Cookbooks, this thing is just a treasure to me. I forgot the publishing date, but it is the 40's or 50's I think. It is just FILLED with so many wholesome, unique recipes--all made with good whole healthy meat, vegetables, eggs, milk, and cheese. You can get so many ideas going through it because they just have scores and scores of recipes for particular foods. (By the way, in spite of its age, this book is like a brand new book!!!) I have come up with a half a dozen or so new recipes using this (and some other ones I got) book, and I have only gotten started going through it. It is just good, home-style American nutritious and delicious food. To me, it is better than anything you can find published today. I can't say enough good about this book. By the way--you won't find many recipes calling for cans of soup or prepared food--even if there are a few, I got a recipe for homemade "canned cream of mushroom etc soup" online, and I will just use that instead. But there aren't many with canned soup or prepared foods, if any.

The Cooking Bible.
Reviewed in the United States on December 18, 2020I first used this book with my mom when I was 3yrs old. She had the old skool hard copy from back in the day. I read the entire thing throughout childhood and learned most of my cooking skills through it. Most people joke I'm a chef because I make up my own recipes but everything I've made up was learned skills via this book. When my mom moved she took it with her. Im now 32 with my own home and 19 years later I only wanted one cookbook on hand. My cooking bible as I call it. This book lol. This book lives in my kitchen and has post it notes throughout the pages marking my go tos off. If I ever am in doubt I grab this book. I now have a kid on the way and this will be their textbook too. I beyond recommend this book. Anything and everything you need to know or want to learn is in it. Even my mom will say it via text if I ask her a recipe question... grab the cooking bible you will find the answer in it.

Perfect, highly recommend both product and seller.
Reviewed in the United States on August 23, 2024Growing up, my mother used a 60's revision of this book, and it is probably the most complete and well rounded source of culinary information available for anyone still to this day, but especiallys so for young homemakers. The seller's description of this book and the actual book itself were perfectly accurate, there were no surprises other than the surprise of being completely satisfied with my purchase. Happy customer.

A great REAL cookbook. It has EVERYTHING!
Reviewed in the United States on January 21, 2008I inherited an older 1940's printing of this cookbook. And from it I taught myself to cook and bake. Recently while teaching my daughter my older version started to really fall apart and I ordered this new paperback copy.
First I have to say how excited I was to find this in print. It is a great cookbook. Basic, simple, and very detailed. It's so much better than new cookbooks that tell you to make a cake by buying a box of cake mix and follow directions on the box.
You can learn to make any and everything from scratch from this book. How to soft boil or hard boil an egg. Basic sauces. All sorts of cookies and cakes with icings and frostings.
While the book can be a bit overwhelming at first it is a great resource to have on hand.

The Best Cookbook to have
Reviewed in the United States on July 26, 2011This cookbook has a long history in our family. It started in the 1940's when my mom was fisrt married and didn't know how to cook "meals". She could make fancy salads and sandwiches. So she was given the book as a gift. It has old style meals made simple and "how to" make many different dishes that anyone would love. I have bought it for all 5 of our kids and these last 2 that I bought were for one of my girls to give to her family members for Christmas. It has a great price and over 800 pages of wonder foods of any kind. Old pictures to show how something looks and tells how to freeze foods or can them. Also the is a food guide in the front that will give calory count and nuetrional info to help in planning. There are many more suprises in there too. I use it all the time.Culinary Arts Institute Encyclopedic Cookbook
